Coltrane Complete Prestige Box

Good advice Paul... OK, latest timeline update for all the other "junkies". Just received the shipping notice for my rather large order (placed 7/19/06) including both the Coltrane and Evans boxes. The only CD that didn't ship was the Boss Tenor K2. All in all . -
Coltrane Complete Prestige Box

Was it a large order? Those seem to be taking longer. That could be the reason. Both the Evans and Coltrane boxes in addition to 31 singles. On second thought, maybe another pay period or two wouldn't hurt. -

This is interesting. I place my order on 7/19 and haven't received a shipping notice. -
9 CD Set: That Devilin Tune
David McFarlane replied to AllenLowe's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Alan--email sent. I'm also interested in the book. -
Thanks Chuck and Ron. I'll see what happens with the next RVG releases. I should feel guilty about trying to save $2 per disc (RVG) and $3 per disc on the Living Stereo. I've purchased everyone of both releases over the past few years. It begins to add up. Besides, the money I save will go towards Smithsonian and Library of Congress releases.

I am a relative newcomer to yourmusic.com. Do all of the Blue note RVG reissues eventually make their way to this site? Ditto for the SACD hybrid Living Stereo reissues? What is the normal lag time from release? Thanks!

Columbia Small Group Swing Sessions
David McFarlane replied to Leeway's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This is great news! I'm a real fan of Mosaic's "multi-artist" releases (Classic Capitol Jazz and H.R.S. and Atlantic New Orleans Jazz, in particular). I keep complete CDR sets of the first two in my desk at work so I can enjoy the variety. This set of swing sessions could be my first pre-order! -
Hi, I have an extra copy of Verve Elite Lalo Schrifrin's The Dissection and reconstruction of music from the past as performed by the inmates of Lalo Schifrin's demented ensemble as a tribute to the memory of the Marquis de Sade. The CD is not sealed; however, CD, inner and outer packaging are in near mint condition. I would like to trade it for Verve Elite Buddy Defranco and Oscar Peterson play George Gershwin. I would like similar condition. PM or email to smumac@earthlink.net. Thanks, David

Glenn Miller Centenary Series (?)
David McFarlane replied to David McFarlane's topic in Recommendations
Thanks for the info! I gave a copy of the Secret Broadcasts to my son a few years ago. I'll see if he still has it. My mistake on the disc count in this series...it's 20 discs! -
Hi, Anybody have comments/recommendations about the first two sets of this Avid series? They will be up to 16 discs later this month. thanks, David

I know this wishlist item appears often...I just thought I would give it another try as this is the final missing link in my collection. Any help on the Defranco Plays Gershwin Verve Elite? Thanks, David

Your First Mosaic Set Purchased
David McFarlane replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Miles Davis/Gil Evans about four years ago. (After meeting Lon (jazzbo) on the decware and old Bluenote (RIP) BB.) Tube amps and Mosaic--talk about financial ruin!! -
Holy Freakin' Crap!!!
David McFarlane replied to Indestructible!'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Erik, I wish that were so. SMU was 0-11 this year At one time we were ranked 117th out of 117. Army had the distinguished honor of being 0-12 . Great story about the cadet. Tracks with my memories of the few times we beat A&M (mid-70s). Of course, SMU has never been the same since the Death Penalty . That's why the NCAA will never impose it again. Enough collegiate banter, enjoy the NKC set, it's a treasure. -

Hey Aggie , If you were an SMU grad (like me (thank goodness for Army this year)), you would have already bought the set and listed it on ebay for $250. Of course, that's only because I have a complete CD set and a partial LP set. I hope you made the purchase today! -
Happy Birthday, Jazzbo!!!!
David McFarlane replied to The Mule's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Many happy returns, Lon. With your valued input, my appreciation of early jazz, and consequently, my early jazz collection have both grown tremendously. Cheers! -
Thanks for the ebay tip Chaney! I've been looking for this box set at reasonable price. It will be added to my Billie Holiday Verve and Commodore sets. Someone (sorry, getting forgetful) on the old BNBB suggested these three box sets and the single CD Lady in Satin would make a comprehensive overview of Bille's career. I have certainly enjoyed the other sets. Can't wait to explore the Columbia.

My copy shipped yesterday. For anyone interested, CDUniverse has this on sale for $14.89 plus shipping ($2.70 less than I paid just two days before ) I'll be sure to post my impression.

Album of the week: Donald Byrd - Byrd in Hand
David McFarlane replied to AfricaBrass's topic in Album Of The Week
Although I did not post often on the old BNBB, I always enjoyed the dialogue. I am not much of a hardbop fan ; however, I have faithfully purchased all of the RVG reissues. I didn't own very many of the previous issues, and the U.S. RVG program provided an opportunity to build quite a collection of different jazz artists. I actually prefer earlier jazz (Armstrong, Basie, Teagarden, and the 40s big band era). The Album of the week concept sounded great and prompted me to give Byrd in Hand a second listen. I found this CD quite enjoyable; my favorite numbers are Bronze Dance and Here I Am. I found Pepper Adams playing intriguing (I played Alto Sax for a number of years in high school and college). He can really muscle the baritone and presents quite a contrast to Byrd's trumpet playing. The experience has me looking at the Mosaic box set as a future purchase.
