  1. I resenble that remark!!!👿
  2. Medium tempo be-bop classic. Solos in order: Hod O'Brien, Idrees Sulieman, Art Farmer, and Donald Byrd ... That should read: Hod O'Brien, Idrees Sulieman, Donald Byrd, Art Farmer ...
  3. Heard him once in the 90's with drummer Motohiko Hino - he was channeling Bud. Incredible! Still playing around Tokyo...
  4. What's the album, Gheorghe - can't read it ...
  5. #1 and #9 are both Daahoud - interesting thing (to me) is that the opening arrangements of both are based closely on Jack Montrose's arrangements originally made for Clifford Brown's Pacific Jazz "Jazz Immortal". Both bands have about the same instrumentation, but the soloists are obviously different - the rhythm section groove on #9 is very fine and the trumpet sounds familiar. Strange ...
  6. One of the great classics ...
  7. Some incredible Bird ...
  8. One of the best big band CDs I have heard in years. You can also see some of the same tracks tracks live on YouTube. Check out "Yes or No". 👍
  9. Ella with Frank DeVol orch. from 1960, recorded in Hollywood. Who is the vibraphonist?
  10. I'm in Japan - tried sending direct the other day, but PayPal won't let me. The Donations tab would seem to be the answer ...
  11. The Japanese pianist Hiroshi Tamura made a remarkable trio record for Cab Records in 1995. Apparently he still works around Tokyo and Yokohama...
  12. Many thanks, Roy. RIP
  13. #6 Something about this reminds me of Sun Ra ... I don't have anything of him playing organ like this ... which would mean that the tenor could be John Gilmore - although the things I have of him are a little stronger (?).
  14. #6 is interesting - tenor may be Clifford Jordan, maybe late 1980's ... like to hear more ...
  15. Good sleuthing. The short solo is certainly Lestorian and you are right about Mabane. I don't have Haddix's book, but It would be interesting to know just why he thinks it is Bird - possibly for these very reasons ...
  16. Received the Japanese version a few days ago - very nice production including a 9.5 x 9.5 inch cover photo reproduction (very relaxed Bird). Sound is good and the music excellent (of course). I agree that it is not Bird soloing on "Margie"...
  17. Unreleased tracks from "The Real Lee Konitz" on Atlantic. Classic !!!
  18. Ah, yes ... excellent.
  19. Deep in the great tradition - many thanks - RIP.
