  1. I know that Rudy's work on the RVG edition of "Birth of the Cool" has received widespread praise. I was curious what others thought of the RVG editions of "Miles Davis Vol.1" and "Miles Davis Vol.2"? Is the sound quality greatly improved from earlier CD issues? Also, regarding "Birth of the Cool," how do you think Rudy's remaster compares with the "Complete Birth of the Cool" edition put out by Capitol Jazz, which has the live sessions? The CD states that the studio sessions were remastered by Mark Levinson, and "edited" by Kurt Lundvall (any relation to Bruce??) "using Sonic Solutions with High Resolution 88.2KHz sampling rate." I don't know what the hell that actually means but it sounds impressive. How does it compare with Rudy's work?
  2. Depends on my mood. I will go for fairly long periods of time listening strictly to jazz. Then, when the mood strikes, I will go on a classical music jag, particularly piano music- sonatas, concertos, etc. I love classical piano. My appreciation for classical violin is also growing. I'd say, in the course of a year, my listening is split 50/50 jazz/classical. I actually like rock as well, but my listening to that is restricted to the car. It just seems to go better there.
  3. What do y'all think of Fred Hirsh? As far as the piano trio form, I guess Mehldau must be considered the frontrunner.
  4. Drop a zero and I'm IN!
  5. Horay, I got it to work -COOL
  6. A trial run to see if I have my AVATAR .
  7. OK, Spill IT! How much does it cost?
  8. I have small Mission speakers, they sound great. I think Mission does a good job with small speakers, very British, very musical. Audio Advisor has them at good (read highly reasonable) prices. Worth checking out.
  9. Instead of merely complaining here on the board (although that's OK too), we should be sending e-mails, letters and faxes to EMI, about the whole BNBB fiasco, Tom's unforgivably arrogant attitude, their wholly contemptuous approach to their customers. Evered should go work somewhere else, and maybe a letter writing campaign will help make that point clear to EMI-BN. I am boycotting BN products. I prefer to buy vinyl BN anyway or 2nd hand CDs. We should all give our credit cards a rest. Listen to what you already have for the next year. As for Mosaic, I really don't have much sympathy. Cuscuna showed no backbone at all, and even seems to support what Evered did. So, let's call them collateral damage. I was going to buy the Chico Hamilton Mosaic, but will not . I don't give a shit if it goes forever out of print and hits $10,000 on EBAY. Same with their other product. As for the BNBB, I don't care if they come back with nude Norah Jones photos (well, maybe, just a peek, but that's IT ). The BNBB is forever dead.
