  1. There's a 2CD set that has just recently been issued on Blue Note called "Wayne Shorter- The Classic Blue Note Recordings". It might be a good set for you in that it includes work he did both with Blakey and as a solo artist.
  2. I have "Conjure", but haven't listened to it much, actually. As Jim mentioned, it is on American Clave, which is Kip Hanrahan's label. There are only 2 cuts with Reed. The sub-title of the album is "Music for the Texts of Ishmael Reed" and it's got a great lineup of musicians, which is not unusual for a Hanrahan project.
  3. And, I'd rather have Krall singing backup on a Costello record, than Costello singing backup on a Krall record. As much as I admire Elvis' attempts at expanding his style, for the most part I've found those CDs difficult to listen to. I just don't think he has the voice to sing anything but rock & roll.
  4. I couldn't not select "Idle Moments". It just has too many good performances on it.
  5. Hmmmmm. Or maybe it's like Caribbean-French - something like Haiti.
  6. They were a great band in their day. I saw them a couple of times although not at their peak when they were playing week-long gigs at "The Boarding House" in SF and getting rave reviews for their outrageous show. I probably saw them around their 2nd or 3rd albums. They still put on quite a performance. I don't think their albums quite do justice to the live event, but then again that's always the case. What Do You Want From Life??!?

    Super Session

I recently picked up an Electric Flag collection called "Old Glory" which has some pretty good vintage 60's stuff on it. I always thought that Nick Gravenites had a pretty good voice.
  8. Thanks, kdd! For some reason, I don't have Capra Black and didn't realize that it was a Strata-East album. How 'bout: - Ricky Ford - David Murray - Max Roach
  9. This has nothing to do with "One Flight Up" but I didn't want to start a new thread just for this question. +++ "Ca' Purange" - What language is it? What does it mean? How do you pronounce it? A French friend told me that it's not French. It's a great album, BTW.
  10. Chico Freeman Billy Harper Gary Bartz George Adams and/or Don Pullen Archie Shepp Larry Young
  11. Exac-ta-mundo!
  12. He does some nice work on Teddy Edwards/Howard McGhee's "Together Again" album. It's a great album anyway.
  13. Billy Cobham is also on the Santana/McLaughlin album.
  14. They recently added Gary Bartz' "I've Known Rivers" live set. Definitely worth picking up. I've seen a 2 album set of "Yo Miles!" by Henry Kaiser and Wadada Leo Smith, too.
  15. The Agonist Talking Points Memo
  16. WHOA! Pretty whack! Thanks for the link.
  17. Now, there's one group I NEVER liked.
  18. I was thinking of doing a Buddy Bolden discography. But seriously, folks .... You know, Charles isn't all that prolific. We could probably put together a pretty good discography right here. Rooster, you could start with what you already have and let the rest of us fill in the blanks.
  19. It's a quaint thought, but I seriously doubt that the dozens of regular posters on the BNBB amounted to much revenue in the scheme of things. If anytning it would effect Mosaic, being a small company. But as has already been pointed out, we've found other outlets to discuss this music anyway.
  20. I've had trouble getting into Interpol, myself. I downloaded it and have listened a couple of times, but it hasn't grabbed me yet. From my list: Carmell Jones - Mosaic Select. Rock solid and never quits. Thad Jones - Mosaic. Picked it up before it went OOP on a whim. Just kept getting better. Dave Holland Big Band - "What Goes Around". Saw them live, too. VERY exciting.
  21. So, that IS Donahue on "Moveable Feast"! There is no mention of the line-up - only photos on the inside sleeve. I always thought it was a pretty solid live album. Really brutal version of "John The Gun", if I remember correctly. The group on this album appears to be: Swarbrick, Denny, Donahue, Pegg, Lucas and Mattacks(another unsung great). Thanks for the heads-up on "Expletive Delighted". I downloaded it from EMusic, but have no liner notes to go with it. Haven't listened to it much yet, either.
  22. As P.D. mentioned, Berkshire Record Outlet has Black Lions for $2.99. I just checked over there and they currently have 26 titles - INCLUDING Tolliver's "Grand Max".
  23. The 2 Charles Tollivers are both worth picking up - "Grand Max" (live) and "The Ringer". Both are really solid quartet dates with the incendiary CT on trumpet. Grand Max is ALWAYS on ebay - so if nothing else, you could pick it up there.
  24. "Nothing More" is also a great tune with some very tasty Jerry Donahue. He seems to be a guitarist that got lost in the shuffle. Certainly impressive on this album, for sure.
  25. I heard that it was awful. Worse than the first time around, which wasn't so great, either.
