  1. Didn't realize that "Relaxin'" wasn't in the box. As I said.....I don't have it myself. Anyway, it seems that for the "right" price it's certainly worth picking up.
  2. I've pretty much eliminated magazines altogether, as I get enough of that "periodical" information online now. Still get The Nation, Smart Money, Consumer Reports, Consumer Reports MoneyAdvisor and some magazines from Environmental groups like Audubon, Nature Conservancy, etc. Oh, yeah......my girlfriend always passes on her copies of The New Yorker when she's finished. They tend to pile up and then I'll read a whole bunch at once.
  3. I almost wrote something like that, but when I looked up his bio on AMG, it said that he started his professional career in the late 50's. So........I guess he "counts".
  4. OTOH, Kenny Barron is definitely still around. I think Reggie Workman just barely squeaks in here, too.

    Go!
  6. They're both still here, b3-er.......and active! In fact, Hank just played here last May at the SF Jazz Fest with Clark Terry.
  7. Annie Ross Anita O'Day Oscar Brown, Jr. Ted Curson
  8. Maynard Ferguson Oscar Peterson Jim Hall Gerald Wilson
  9. I'll have to take another listen to that 2nd side! I didn't mean that they sounded like BS&T, but there was that jazz/rock/horn sound that a number of groups were experimenting with at the time. Others would be Chicago (of course), Chase, Sons of Champlin ...
  10. I have that first Dreams album and Compost's "Life is Round". Dreams is a jazz/rock group in the BS&T mold. Compost is more of a jazz group with pop sensibilities. Jack plays drums on only 3 cuts, but it doesn't really matter. It's the whole group sound - not an outing for solo features. Other musicians on this date (besides Jack & Harold) are: Bob Moses, Jumma Santos, Jack Gregg, Roland Prince, Ed Finny, Lou Courtney & Jeanne Lee.
  11. Looks like it might be an oboe: +++ Rejoyce (Grace Slick) Chemical change like a laser beam You've shattered the warning amber light Make me warm Let me see you moving everything over Smiling in my room You know you'll be inside of my mind soon. There are so many of you. White shirt and tie, white shirt and tie, white shirt and tie Wedding ring, wedding ring. Mulligan stew for Bloom, The only Jew in the room Saxon's sick on the holy dregs And their constant getting throw up on his leg. Molly's gone to blazes, Boylan's crotch amazes Any woman whose husband sleeps With his head all buried down at the foot of his bed. [Oboe solo] I've got his arm. I've got his arm. I've had it for weeks. I've got his arm. Steven won't give his arm To no gold star mother's farm; War's good business, so give your son And I'd rather have my country die for me. There are so many of you. Sell your mother for a Hershey bar Grow up looking like a car, There are; All you want to do is live, All you want to do is give, But, somehow, it all falls apart! 12. Would you still buy it if it DIDN'T have a metal spine?? That's the question ...
  13. Speaking of Hendrix, Winwood does play on Electric Ladyland. He also shows up on a rather obscure King Crimson offshoot project called "McDonald & Giles". Then again, there's always Stomu Yamashta's "Go" with Winwood & Michael Shrieve (there's your Santana connection!)
  14. I could be wrong, but I think he was the guitar player on "Fernwood 2-Night" with Martin Mull & Fred Willard.
  15. Gary Winogrand is one of my all-time favorites of the "street" school of shooting.
  16. Charlie Rose's PBS show is re-playing a 2000 hour-long interview tonight.
  17. I don't get the Dodger thing either. I hope tonight is not a sign of things to come. For the first time this year, they lost a game after leading in the 7th inning. Dreifort ...
  18. I dunno about the vocals. They're kinda scary, actually. She's so off-key.......and not in a "good way", either. +++ I have the "Nine to the Universe" Jimi album. The personnel on "Young/Hendrix" is: Jimi Larry Billy Cox - Bass Mitch Mitchell - Drums Recorded at the Record Plant-NY, 5/14/69. It's not wildly exciting, like you would hope that it would be, but I'm glad I have it. I think there are one or two others in the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" box that came out a few years ago.
  19. How about: Jacky Terrasson Benny Green Cyrus Chestnut
  20. I know a couple of people who have gotten a fair price for a sizable amount of records at Amoeba. But maybe that's the exception.
  21. Sometimes a second-hand record store will give you a decent price on an entire collection.
  22. Hey! What's wrong with 42 MPG? I would get a Prius in a flash. It's definitely my next car. As mentioned previously, the Honda Insight is a s m a l l 2-seater, which explains the 60MPG. I've also heard that the Honda Civic hybrid doesn't get as good mileage as the Prius. It uses different technology which is not as efficient in the city. On top of everything else, I believe that there are tax breaks for hybrids, too.
  23. That Cobham album is a classic of sorts. Fusion-y, but not obnoxious. Currently: Cecil McBee w/Chico Freeman - "Compassion". The title tune is a MONSTER.
  24. I somehow knew that the Mosaic would be a good catch - before it went OOP - even though I wasn't very familiar with his music. So I picked it up and glad that I did. A great collection, for sure.
  25. Speaking of Marshall Crenshaw..........amazingly, he's now touring as part of the current MC5 reunion tour.
