  1. I generally don't like Christmas tunes, but has anyone heard "Jingle Jangle Jump"? The only version I'm aware of is on the Black Lion album, "Citizens Bop" by Dexter Gordon & Wardell Gray. Someone named Gladys Bently does the vocal, and it's really GREAT. I never thought I would say that about a Christmas tune......but there you go. Of course, there's always "Blue Xmas", the Bob Dorough/Miles Davis tune. That's not half bad, either.
  2. I think they were looking for defense in Matheny. Also, I don't think AJ was well liked in the clubhouse. He got off to a bad start with the other players, and was probably never able to recover. Needless to say......they do need some hitting, though.
  3. I just sent one in. I hope I'm the first. I can ALWAYS use an extra 10 D/Ls! B-)
  4. Check out the "Clearance" section. There's a ton of stuff for $1.99! Of course with S&H each CD is actually a little under $5, but still.......a great deal on this music. Some of the albums I put in my cart are: Miles Davis - "Volume 1" and "Volume 2" (BN RVGs) Sandy Denny - "No More Sad Refrains - Anthology" (2 CD - $3.98) "Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins" - on Impulse Richard & Linda Thompson - "Best of the Island Years" Jefferson Airplane - "Takes Off" (remastered) - they also have "Crown of Creation" for $1.99!! Latin Playboys - "Dose" ... and a bunch of other stuff.
  5. Didn't bother me.
  6. Actually, it doesn't include any of the tunes from "Band of Gypsys". But it is a lot of other music played during that same 2-night run at the Fillmore. Don't take back BoG, though. It's still a classic.
  7. Now you have to get "Live at the Fillmore East". B-)
  8. Holy FREAKIN' ....... Andrew Hill Complete Blue Note Mosaic Records CDs Winning bid: US $510.00
  9. Just received from BMG today:
  10. But, but, but, but .... does the CD have the name "various" anywhere on it? Meanwhile: I'm having trouble figuring out where to put Viktor Kraus' album. It's not jazz or folk or country or rock......it's instrumental music. I don't have a category for that.
  11. Good idea. I would just stick "various" at the end of the collection. After all, that's not the name of the artist(s).
  12. Currently listening to one of those: "Blues for Coltrane" - McCoy Tyner, Pharaoh Sanders, David Murray, Cecil McBee & Roy Haynes. I usually file it under "Coltrane". I don't know why ...
  13. Also on Evidence (and eMusic) is Andy Bey's "Ballads, Blues and Bey".
  14. Blossom Dearie
  15. I disagree, check this out: The album that is!!!!! It was recorded 4 years after Skateboard Park and is very much a straight ahead hard bop quartet date. Joe plays tenor, soprano and some flute on it. I'll knock your socks off if the cover doesn't do the trick!! Don I'll certainly keep my EYE out for that one! Sounds like the music is good, too. Thanks for the heads-up, jd!
  16. I think they made an announcement a few months ago about the Amazon connection.
  17. That Joe Farrell "Skateboard Park" album IS really good. Probably the last great thing he did. I'm going to have to check out those Billy Mitchells. Thanks for the heads up there, Kevin. For any of you who don't mind MP3's, it's true that eMusic carries quite a few Xanadu's - not the entire catalog, but a good representation. I believe they are all transferred from vinyl, but the sound is pretty anyway. Here's the artist list: Auld, George Barron, Kenny Berg, Bob Butler, Frank Clark, Sonny Cohn, Al Cohn, Al (Al Cohn And Barry Harris) Cohn, Al (Al Cohn And Jimmy Rowles) Coker, Dolo Coleman, Earl Criss, Sonny Cuber, Ronnie Dorham, Kenny Dorham, Kenny (Kenny Dorham And Conte Candoli) Drew, Kenny Dunbar, Ted Edison, Harry (Harry Edison / Hot Lips Page / Roy Eldridge) Eldridge, Roy Farlow, Tal Farrell, Joe Flanagan, Tommy Gibbs, Terry Gordon, Dexter Gray, Wardell Guy, Joe (Joe Guy And Hot Lips Page) Harris, Barry Hawes, Hampton Hawkins, Coleman Heath, Jimmy Hines, Earl Hines, Earl (Earl Hines And Roy Eldridge) Jones, Sam McPherson, Charles Mitchell, Billy Monterose, J. R. Moody, James (James Moody And Bennie Green) Most, Sam Mover, Bob Norvo, Red Noto, Sam Payne, Cecil (Cecil Payne And Duke Jordan) Powell, Bud Raney, Jimmy Rodgers, Shorty (Shorty Rodgers And Art Pepper) Rodney, Red Rowles, Jimmy Russell, Pee Wee Sprague, Peter Thompson, Lucky Tucker, Mickey Various Artists - Xanadu FWIW, they do NOT have those Montreux albums. But they DO have "Silver Blue" - a three-tune jam session with Al Cohn, Dexter Gordon, Blue Mitchell, Sam Noto, Barry Harris, Sam Jones, Louis Hayes.
  18. Rufus Reid - "Seven Minds" w/Terry Lynne Carrington and Jim McNeeley Ray Brown - "Something for Lester" w/Cedar Walton and Elvin Jones These are both excellent! That's all I got for now ...
  19. Hey.......what do you mean by that????
  20. Good price. Cheaper than Amazon......and free postal service shipping if over $20.
  21. There's a long thread about Max's health somewhere around here if you do a search.
  22. Looks like I'm not up on Supergrass as much as I should be. I wasn't planning on being a "completist", though. I'll keep my eye on the used bins and maybe pick up some more when they show up.
  23. Just a little light morning music ...
  24. The Tivoli album is OOP at this point, I'm guessing?
  25. The first 2 Supergrass albums are solid SMOOOOOOOKE! The third was wasn't as strong IMHO. They have a nice balance of pop and noisy rock. It's funny... I actually prefer their newer stuff. I think they've had a very interesting evolution. I believe they are currently recording their next album... I'll buy it the day it comes out. Well, maybe I just didn't listen to "Life on Other Planets" enough. It didn't grab me as much as the others, though. (not that there aren't some great songs there)
