Miles Davis “Directions” Columbia 2 LP set, LP 1
-
The turntable is spinning with the mono version of a stereo LP I spun last week, “Jack Teagarden” on Verve. Both the stereo and mono sound glorious; the stereo is a lot cleaner copy.

Cold again, and ye olde dachshund is not doing so well. . . I didn’t get enough sleep but I’ll try and make up for that later. Starting off with a new arrival, Ethan Iverson Quartet & Tom Harrell “Common Practice” . . . I’m not the biggest Iverson fan but I do love Tom Harrell and he is playing really well on this live session. 300×300 35 KB

Maybe it was Orrin's partner who has a less than stellar rep I think. After all Grauer, Jr. was in charge of sales and business I think.

Miles Davis “Water Babies” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 This cover always makes me smile–we used to on occasion have a neighborhood Dad who would get out a monkey wrench and free up the water for the kids to play around in my Philly neighborhood as a kid. Arranged By – Tom Harrell Bass – Ugonna Okegwo Cello – Rubin Kodheli Drums – Johnathan Blake Flute, Bass Flute – Charles Pillow Guitar – Rale Micic Piano – Danny Grissett Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Wayne Escoffery Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Tom Harrell Violin – Meg Okura

Personally I believe the Real Gone story, and they have done wonderful mastering work, so I expect this will sound really nice. I pre-ordered a black vinyl copy.

Weird News Tonight (or Today!!!!!)

I really haven't been an alcohol drinker in about 35 years, gave it up about the time I gave up smoking cigarettes. Of these I was a Heineken fan, and liked Modelo (Negro). Didn't drink the others. -
Bill Evans “Another Time: The Hilversum Concert” Resonance Records cd Bill with Eddie Gomez and Jack DeJohnette. Killer imo.

Well I remain a Lovano fan. I like all his recordings. . . except I'm not really fond of those ECMs with gongs. Gongs just don't float my boat in jazz. And I'll repeat he is the nicest jazz musician I ever met and conversed with. I'll never forget meeting him at Tower Records Austin.

I am having what turns out to be an interesting day. One happy thing is that we had our taxes done. . . and we lwe less than we thought we did, much less. Whew! Yeeha! And then the mail came. . . and there was a Claudia Acuna cd that I didn't think I had ordered. In fact there were two copies, one sealed, and one open with on the front cover "Lon Armstrong, Thank you for your support! Claudia Acuna" . . . . I looked and it was mailed by Claudia Acuna. I've looked through my purchase history and I can't see anywhere that I ordered that cd, although I did order a few other Acuna cds a month ago. A happy mystery! Thanks Ms Acuna!

That's amazing that you tried that. Dan Barrett is the only one I know of that really succeeded at that. Tea was an astonishing musician. One of those dearest to my listening heart.

I believe you are correct on all accounts there. I have the mono and stereo LPs and the Teagarden family release on cd. I'm a Teagarden nut.
