  1. It’s been too long since I played a recording of the wondrous Ms Maria. And this one is amazing. Just Tania and Eddie, so well-recorded. Some great beauty here and two masters at their best. Tania Maria (featuring Eddie Gomez) “Tempo” Indigo/Naive cd
  2. On to Chet Baker "Mr. B" Timeless cd I've had this one for years, but it's the only one of the upcoming 5 cd box set of his Timeless recordings that I have. Looking forward to that! This is a good one. . . great for late night or early morning. Chet Baker – trumpet Michel Graillier – piano Riccardo del Fra – bass Philip Catherine – guitar (one track)
  3. Starting off with some Kenny Burrell. . . from the mid-seventies. Kenny Burrell “Sky Street” Fantasy LP
  4. Leonardo Da Vinci And Mona Lisa 1504. Photographed by Keith Richards
  5. Miles In France 1963 & 1964 - Miles Davis Quintet: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8. Disc 5
  6. John Coltrane "Turning Point--The Bethlehem Years" Solid Records Japan 2024 2 cd set, disc 2 This disc has the quintet sides. An easier listen than the big band tracks with all the alternates and breakdowns (though lots of those).
  7. David Crosby “For Free” Three Blind Mice cd The final album from Crosby.
  8. "Duke Ellington Presents Ivie Anderson" Columbia 2 LP 1973, record 2 Great transfers and sound, and wonderful music. Ivie was something else. This record was still on the turntable so I’m re-spinning it. Sounds really good! Lee Morgan “Caramba” Blue Note Classic reissue LP
  9. This record was still on the turntable so I’m re-spinning it. Sounds really good! Lee Morgan “Caramba” Blue Note Classic reissue LP I read on a forum someone thought this was an awful cover. What? It's a great cover.
  10. “K+J.J.” Kai Winding & J.J.Johnson, Bethlehem/Solid Records Japan 2024. Includes 7 bonus cuts. 640×634 38 KB
  11. A new year. . . a new snowfall. About an inch. The bare trees are beautiful again! Stayed up til the ball dropped . . .with an effort and got to sleep seven hours and feel my head full of fog. Not used to that much sleep! Starting off the new year with a new acquisition from discogs.com — some Swedish jazz. Arne Domnérus “Arne Domnérus” Four Leaf Clover Records 2 cd set, disc 1 This disc has American Jimmy Rowles on piano and vocals joins the alto saxophonist, which is the main reason I purchased it. The original cover: I can hear him well enough. Not the worst recording session!
  12. Herbie Nichols, "Love, Gloom, Cash, Love" Bethlehem/Solid Records Japan cd 2024 It's been too long since this has spun and I am once more amazed at the beauty throughout this disc. The touch Nichols has, his wonderful use of the pedals, the orchestral textures he can create with his pianism. Wow.
  13. John Coltrane “Turning Point–The Bethlehem Years” Solid Records Japan 2024 2 cd set, disc 1
  14. "Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders" Sonny Rollins – tenor saxophone Hampton Hawes - piano Barney Kessel - guitar Leroy Vinnegar - bass Shelly Manne - drums Victor Feldman - vibes
  15. Me too. There is one absolute masterful piece on this: "The Silky Veils of Ardor." I just love that.
  16. Jimmy Heath “Picture of Heath” Prevue cd
  17. Well, I was playing a few Bethlehem recordings because a package of new 2024 reissues of four Bethlehem titles was scheduled to arrive this afternoon and it just did. I was hoping these new remasterings didn’t sound better than the 2013 series that was released in Japan which has been my favored sonic versions, and. . . well they do sound a little better. Perhaps just a tiny bit less “loud” but more open sounding and dynamic by a bit. I’ll try not to buy more, but based on this playback of the first one (one of my favorite discs, period, in my listening history) it will be hard to resist not buying a few more of the titles I like the most. Charles Mingus “East Coasting” Bethlehem/Solid Records Japan cd (2024) Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone – Shafi Hadi Bass – Charles Mingus Drums – Dannie Richmond Piano – Bill Evans Trombone – Jimmy Knepper Trumpet – Clarence Shaw
  18. “Charles Persip & the Jazz Statesmen” Bethlehm/Solid Records Japan cd Bass – Ron Carter Drums – Charles Persip Piano – Ronald Mathews* Producer – Teddy Charles Tenor Saxophone – Roland Alexander Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard, Marcus Belgrave Followed by “A Swinging Introduction to Jimmy Knepper” Bethlehem/Solid Records Japan cd A great album! Jimmy Knepper – trombone Gene Roland – trumpet, vocals) Gene Quill – alto saxophone Bill Evans or Bob Hammer – piano Teddy Kotick – bass Dannie Richmond – drums
  19. Larry Young “Unity” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary SHM-SACD
  20. Yes, I met him years ago and he's a wonderful person.
  21. Miles Davis “The Complete Live at Plugged Nickel 1965” Sony/Tower Records SACD box set, disc 4 300×272 5.16 KB Followed by “Sonny Clark Trio” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary SHM-SACD 468×468 38.3 KB

  23. Thelonious Monk “The Columbia Years: '62-'68,” Columbia 3 cd set, disc 1 I couldn’t decide which Monk album to play today, and this seemed a good option. Nicely compiled, very nice sounding overview of the Columbia era.
  24. Dexter Gordon “The Complete Prestige Recordings” 11 cd set, disc 7 Following Lester Young with Dexter Gordon makes complete sense to me this morning.
