    Jobim

I haven't yet heard "Passarim" but will one day soon. Yes, the "Canto Vinicius" is excellent and their participation makes it that way (oh, it's likely would have been that way without them! ) I really love their participation whenever I've heard them with Jobim, and their work that I have heard without Jobim is also excellent. I hope they get to continue to caretake and expand the legacy.

    Jobim

Listen, I don't think Jobim sounds like Blue Eyes at ALL! Welcome Jim; glad you've shown up. I've been really impressed by the Morelenbaums, Jacques and Paula. Wow.
  3. Hi guys. Those seem like appropriate ground rules to me. I'm glad this forum is here. . . well maybe not. My pocketbook may suffer!
  4. About four months ago I saw Marchel perform in Dallas. It was one of the best musical events for me for about a decade. Of course I've been starving for real jazz performances here in Austin, and that was likely one reason why I was so fulfilled by this one. But as you can tell from the cds that you have, Mr. Ivery is more than the real deal, he's a real strong hand dealt from the real deal deck. And his band, which includes friends of Jim Sangrey's (Lyle and Andrew) and a penpal and friend of mine (Andrew) is a tremendous one. All the best to Marchel and his men!
  5. Jim, hope your son is feeling better. I looked at other sites, and agree that this is the place to be, the vibe is right, and it was created especially for the situation. I may not be posting too much, but I'll be here supportin'. Listenin' to Toshiko play in 1954 . . . and postin' to the new community. Life is good! ---Lon
  6. I'm a huge tube nut, and I've always wondered about the nuvista tube in applications. . . Glad to hear that it is a successful implementation in this cd player. Bet it sounds amazing. Maybe I should go and buy a handful of lottery tickets. . .
  7. I know it will be a big success because you have put hours of planning into it, and you have the good will of many behind you!

    Jobim

Okay, I confess that for years I slumbered ignorant of the great glory of Brazilian music. I had glimmerings of insight and reality, but I shrugged them off. Jim R our brother BNBB person kept inviting me to see the light, and I did, slowly, surely, steadily. . . . And now I'm clearly in a shaft of brilliance, dazzled and delighted. Perhaps the biggest contribution that Jim R has made to my listening life is allowing me to discover the beauty and logic and wisdom and warmth in the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. I have come to appreciate his work to an extent that surprises me. I've become very fond of the small number of his own recordings that I have, and his work interpreted by others. I am really amazed by his "banda nova". . . the textures of the flute and the beautiful voices and the cello. . . . This is classical music, this is popular music, this is jazzy music, this is music that is healing and heartfelt. Thanks to Jim R for the guidance. I'm going to be exploring Brazilian music now as a part of my regular voyaging. . . !
  9. Okay, this is Lon, I decided to be jazzbo just because it's a new dawn, it's a new day. . . . I'm not going to be posting much anywhere, but this looks like the place to be posting; good folk, kindly started by an important BNBB member to be a haven. . . . The decimation of the BNBB I actually found to be a relief! I had started a new job (within the same agency) that only allows me about an hour of free computer time a day, my lunch hour. . . . It's been a great thing for me but I thought I would be missing a lot at the BNBB. Well, that turned out to be so very very untrue. All that is left there is Greg, swimming around waiting for someone to complain so he can say "Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!" AAJ looks good, but because this one was created out of whole cloth to be a BNBB replacement, I'm going to lend it my support. I'll not be posting as much as I was before, but I'll be around. Hang tough brethren . . . international hard times ahead!
