  1. Well of course he's really either Bill Evans or Yusef Lateef, Jim. BUT "Yusef" is a variant of "Joseph" and "Lateef" is "gentle". . . . I think that this is probably a very very apt name for this wonderful musician! Or for Jimmy Scott!
  2. Well, thanks for bringing this thread to light. . . it made me revisit this session. This one is all about romance, late night ballads. . . . Slow and sexy music. . .some very nice string writing. . .some very nice Eric Gale. . .some nice sax from David Newman and one appearance by Yusef Lateef doing obligattos. . . . Beautiful music. T'aint FUNKY.
  3. It's a Jimmy Scott record. It's NOT to my ears a funky greazy thing at all. It's Jimmy Scott, he's almost his own genre, he's one of the greatest singers who ever tackled a jazz repretoire. . . . I like this album, but I'm a Jimmy Scott fan.
  4. How have I missed that Bags cd appearance! Thanks for bringing it up.
  5. I have a handful of these and LOVE them. I think they are among the very best of the cd reissues that I have sound wise and packaging wise. I like the earlier K2 Impulses, but these just sing with a real naturalness on my system. I got quite a few from Rd Trumpet at unbelievable prices, and there continues to be some available there for sale. . . .
  6. Yes, the recent imported series of soundtracks from French films is quite revealing; some great Getz on one! I'll have to track down the "Oceans 11" soundtrack because I do remember the original music for the film being pretty nice, it was an okay film with pretty good music. "Monsoon Wedding"'s soundtrack is way up there on my list.
  7. This IS a great cd. I do want to mention however that the same material appears more completely, properly credited, and in better sound within the Embers "Live at Birdland" cds. I've had both, compared both, lived with both, and some time ago gave away the "Cool and Blue" cd because. . . it wasn't as good in these ways.
  8. I agree with Morganized, I really do. The disc just doesn't speak to me and ask me to play it, it's probably the least played Cannon cd that I have, I agree that it has phenomenal playing throughout by Bill and Julian. . . . My main problem is the bass and drums just don't make me "get up with it." I'm not a fan of this bass and drum team. So I reach for other Cannon and Evans cds so much more often.
  9. It's pretty interesting. I find that a lot of the stuff about my type makes me go. . . okay, this is interesting, indeed. Quite a bit of it seems plausible.
  10. Ed, do a google search for that type and you'll find page after page of reading!
  11. Alright AB, us INFJs are a RARE breed!

  13. I've found this to be a very intriguing thing. . . I'm an INFJ.
  14. Looks like Miles is learning from somebody who can't play shit!
  15. Me either KU. . . .
  16. You know, I never noticed the bird headed ashtray before!
  17. Man, happy birthday GENIUS!
  18. That's right, Vivendi Universal owns it. This did come out as a Japanese K2 release some years back and may have been reissued once more as well. . . .
  19. The recent Verve is FANTASTIC.
  20. House of Blue Lights HAS been on cd. . . b u t not an American cd.
  21. Yes on the original cover art on the Fresh Sounds cd.
  22. Seems fitting that one of his last recorded performances was "There Will Never Be Another You." Happy Birthday lady Pres! (Dig the Air Conditioning!)
  23. Beverly is cool, but it is Up, Over and Out that knocks me out (and is the tune that Aric was referring to that is recorded unofficially from Europe).
  24. The Mercury material! A huge chunk of it is reissued in a two cd set called "Sophisticated Swing." Also, the Savoy material is fantastic, and most is reissued in a two cd set called "The Adderley Brothers: Summer of 1955"---I guess basically all of Adderley is worth hearing. I still haven't heard all the final Capitols, but want to.
  25. Yeah Ellington. The blue PAINTER. Shheessh, not necessarily at the piano, but what that guy did with the BLUES!
