  1. Protecting Garner from What ???? HUHn !!!! I thought Helen Keane Passed away years ago ???
  2. Can you explain her purpose for this behavior ?
  3. The Garner material thru July 1954 has been released on Classics and is available thru Worlds Records among others. The Solo session of March 1955 is available from many sources. "The Concert by the Sea" tapes are alive and well in the Sony/Columbia vaults. A 2 CD set would be possible with the following unissued tracks. Night and Day,Spring Will Be A Little Late This Year,The Nearness of You,Sweet and Lovely,Lullaby of Birdland,Will You Still Be Mine ?,I Cover The Waterfront,Bernie's Tune,S'Wonderful,Laura and Caravan. Martha Glaser suffers from dimentia and has faded away. The status of Garner material is uncertain.
  4. actually the sound got better and better. Fantasy was to release a "Best of the Secret Sessions" Disk, but Concord took over and that died. Nothing has been heard of the rest of the unissued Harris material ?
  5. I have what you seek.E-Mail me your trade list. I seek Miles Davis Paris Concert March 1960 either Trema or Laserlight.
  6. Saw the History Channel special on Frank Lucas. Worth comparing this to"Gangster"
  7. Don't know, but for the first time in a long time, I'm looking forward to September 11! Al,specifics of this box will be made known the end of this month.
  8. There is a 5 CD Coltrane Box scheduled for release on Sept 11 entitled"Interplay'. Co-Leader and sideman releases ??
  9. Just got this set,I can CDR disk 4 adding "What's New" at the beginning, but have no source for "Rain "
  10. Blue Note Disco lists this as an unissued session. My question is what makes thi s so pricey $14.04 on CD Universe ???
  11. "Quartet" and "Outback" are coming out on one Mosaic CD.
  12. Me too. I wish I was there. I saw the group at the JazzWorkshop in Boston in early 1965. My friend and I stayed for two sets. One Tune was played in each set-"Summertime" and "My Favorite Things". Each set lasted about 45 minutes. My friend commented "Man, I'm exhausted just watching those guys" .What a hard working group !! The members were drenched in sweat especially Jimmy Garrison.
  13. Not a rumor, a 4 CD set of the Vanguard recordings was released in Japan a couple of years ago. Available for $19 per CD in US. These are 4 50 minute plus CDs.
  14. In my experience, yes - that's the best way to reach Cuscuna -- at least for those of us in the public at large. About once every year or two I have e-mailed him (via Mosaic, probably some "info @ mosaicrecords dot com" type address, or something similar), and I have usually gotten personal responses from Michael - though occasionally weeks or even months after my initial message (for various good and valid reasons, I can only assume). Best of luck!! With the upcoming release of "Straight Life" its doubtful that anymore Smith will come out in 07. However the "Baby Grand" sessions are reported to have more material to be issued than originally came out. If you add the "Plays Fats Waller Session" Jan 1962 you have the entire Smith output on Blue Note to be released in US.
  15. Fantasy was about to release a single CD "Best of the Secret Sessions" and then Concord took charge. I wonder if that project died ? There is still much more on those Harris tapes that have yet to be released. Makes one wonder about the relationship between the Evans estate and Concord ?

    RVGs

It was rumored about some while ago, that when the Baby Grand sessions are released they could include tracks which were previously listed as rejected.
  18. The reissue scene has been going on since 1986,I don't think there is a much meaningfull stuff coming out anytime soon. The cream is out there.I can understand why Alan doesn't bother.
  19. Looks like a Jazz Hour release.I thought they had gone away ?
  20. CD Universe has listed Miles Davis "Prince of Darkness" Live in Europe coming on 17 Oct.Anyone have a track listing or any info ?
  21. "Lifetime" and "Spring" on 1 CD Jimmy Smith: The Baby Grand Sessions or "Lonesome Road" and" Plays Fats Waller" on 1 CD
  22. Do you mean LPs? Have the first two tracks ever been on a CD? I read that the original Sermon/House Party combo included all the tracks but all the tracklistings I found for the old House Party disc only listed the same five tracks that the RVG has.
