Upcoming Lucky Thompson Select tracklisting
Bill B replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's a Proper (U.K.) set; the Jackson/Thompson Savoy material on that one was not licensed. Just thought I'd mention it BEWARE " Come Rain or Shine "is omitted as well as Thompson's ballad feature "Whats New" . Proper claims they will correct these problems sometime. -
Upcoming Lucky Thompson Select tracklisting
Bill B replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
There is not enough material for a Jackson-Thompson-Select on Savoy. There are Atlantic sessions to fill it out. Unless MC goes for a two'fer, which I doubt. -
Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford Mosaics can be pre-ordered
Bill B replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Oddly enough, the biggest holdup in getting the Jamal Box out was Jamal himself. He placed very low value on his work from this period. He was finally convinced after many years. His playing now is not to be missed,if two-fisted hard driving piano is to your liking. -
Don't count on it. As was repeatedly posted on this board, some of the tapes are missing. I'll bet the missing tapes are the ones that contain the previously unissued material!
-
Hopefully, The Jamal Box will come out in the near term ??

As others have said, the music has been circulated widely. I think the Rome concert is particularly well-recorded (though is this the complete recording? it wouldn't fit on just one CD). I believe the Rome concert has the last recording Miles ever made of "Round Midnight". B O on CD Universe already !

What about a Red Garland Trio Box with Chambers and Taylor. Are you listening Concord ?
-
This was posted long ago, but nevertheless - there was a Japanese 3 CD box with this, so I doubt Mosaic will do this. Besides that much of the music is nice, but not as spectacular as the Clef or Columbia sides. Bill Evans Trio @Sausalito-1964 A Subset of the Verve Box-3 CDs

Co-producer Richard Seidel said in an interview that unissued material may be released by Sony, including stuff from the 1960s. See this post. Perhaps the Berkeley concerts 0f 1967 and 68 might be included although the tapes to the later concert were reported missing some while ago. The European tours of 1960,64 and 67 might also be included.

The disease is dementia. I keep hoping that one day the "legal limbo" will be solved and Mosaic will after all be able to release a Garner set. Thanks for pointing out the typo. This so-called "legal limbo" will not be sorted out in Ms.Glaser's lifetime. M. C. has worked long and hard for this one for a long time.If it does come out I may not be the first to purchase, but I won't be far behind .
-
Unfortunately, you are probably correct about the footnote. The 'legal limbo" you speak of has been created by Martha Glaser his manager who is suffering from dimentia. There is no Garner estate since he has no living relatives. Numerous attempts have been made to issue the remaining vault items but these attempts have been stonewalled .If it weren't for the Chronological classics we wouldn't have his recordings, from 1952-53. There are other previous posts which refer to these events .

Where can one find a discographical listing of his Columbia albums, when they were recorded, released, etc.? I've looked all over and found a six-page discography in French, but even THAT'S not complete. Jim Doran's book-"Most Happy Piano" -Scarecrow Press has a very complete disco.

Bill B replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
What do the moles say about the Jamal Box Set ?? -
She still has business phone in NYC. I haven't spoken to her in several years. She is the only person I know where her lawyer fired her as a client. Michael Cuscuna would have the answers you are looking for.

With the Joe Farrell and Erroll Garner Boxes derailed and the Jamal Box delayed a year or more, 2009 looks like a year for saving.
