  1. i like this album very much. nice tune selection. still sounds fresh today (at least to my ears). thanks for posting the original cover (have not seen it before).
  2. It ended at $1,585. It's a Classic Records re-issue, with the faux deep-groove and addresses. Except, of course the obvious 'Classic Records under licence etc.' line at the bottom of the back cover. http://cgi.ebay.com/VG-RARE-Lee-Morgan-Ind...1QQcmdZViewItem i don't know ... while looking at the pictures i've noticed that both the cover and the record look absolutely brand new, without any signs of use or aging ... no spindle marks, no fingerprints, no yellowing, nothing ... but yet the grading is only vg+++, not mint or near mint. and you guys are complaining all the time about overgrading by ebay sellers ...
  3. "a slice of the top" edit: sorry, i did not see that this question has already been answered ...
  4. the ike quebec album (blue & sentimental) is a very good album ... has grant green as a sideman ! pflichtkauf !
  5. don't want to rub some more salt in your fresh wounds ... but ... the jutta hipp album has been out as a connoiseur edition too :rsmile:
  6. ahmad jamal
  7. no, we don't. oh ... and could you please turn off the virus scanner on your system ... it's not fully compatible with our remote access software ... we are getting error messages everytime we try to access your hard drive ... thanks for cooperating with us ! thanks for the welcome messages @catesta and @paul secor.
  8. as i'm only a longtime "lurker" (and not an active member) of this board i can not add very much to all this discussions. all i can say is .... whenever i'm looking for some jazz-related informations and opinions (about an artist or some specific album) the first thing i do is scanning the organissimo-board (by using google). that's how good this board is.
  9. substance-abuse glorification shouldn't be allowed here. glue sniffing can damage your brain cells ... i'm just saying ...
  10. thanks for posting this link ... but being a "lurker" for many years i was already familiar with this discussions about a possible mosaic project on the 3 sounds. all i can say is .... i wish blue note would do something completely crazy and smuggle one (or two) of their classic albums into the rvg series ... how about "here we come" ? last time that blue note tried to sell some of the early 3 sounds music is already 10 years ago (black orchid in 1998) ... so why not give it another try and simply see what's happenin' ... maybe the rvg-label will attract some curiosity buyers this time ?! -_-
  11. well, my point is ... i would love to buy me some 1950s lou donaldson, some 1950s hank mobley or some 1960s horace parlan ... but i really don't need everything of it, sorry ... just because lou donaldson recorded about 200 albums for the blue note label in the 1950s doesn't mean i have to buy and own 100 pounds of this stuff -_- really, what's the point of having the complete 1950s lou donaldson? i mean, besides the simple fact that you can say: look, here i have the complete 1950s lou donaldson ... -_-
  12. :tup i too have this naxos-edition of the casals recordings ... beautiful music ... one of my personal "desert-islands-cds"
  13. plus ... serving the stamp-collectors-crowd ... who else needs a complete collection of everything ? -_-
  14. Dan Gould will send you a Christmas card for that MG nothing against dan gould ... but i would much prefer a 3-sounds-rvg for christmas are the 3 sounds now erased from the official blue note history ?
  15. happy as a pig in fresh mud to see that the rvg-series continues ! and yes, i do like the sound of the rvg-cds ! glad to see the silver-album on the list. never heard this one but really looking forward for the rvg-cd ... as much as i like the silver-albums with the cook-mitchell-frontline ... i like the albums with other horn players even better, especially the one with farmer and mobley ("stylings of silver") the donaldson-album is the one with green and willette, right ?! ... ok, one for me, please! but ... where are the 3 sounds ?
  16. or even better: "the complete blue note lee morgan 1960s false starts" or at least some kind of compilation like: "jazz for days where nothing works: the best of the blue note false starts and breakdowns"
  17. thanks for your comment ! well ... that doesn't sound too promising, especially the "tends to get overshadowed" part
  18. any comments on this wes album ? is it good ... or ... not so good ?
  19. David I was in HMV yesterday and they had quite a few Blue Note cds that were CC'd in the past but don't seem to be now, e.g. Dance with Death and Black Fire. It doesn't apply to all of the cds though - the Monk/Coltrane at Carnegie Hall is still CC'd. you won't believe what i've seen yesterday in a german record-shop ... monk & coltrane at carnegie hall ... without cc !!! real audio cd's ! now in europe too ! thank you emi, thank you for bringing this exciting new technology to europe !
  20. can't comment on sound quality ... but can tell you this: the old cd had only the five tracks from the original album ... later editions (like the rvg-edition) have two alt tracks (one of them being an alt of the title track) of course, i have the old cd without the alt tracks ...
  21. the tape boxes that are pictured on this site ... these are the master tapes for producing the original lp's, right ? but, these are not the original session tapes, right ? these master tapes are dubbed from the original session tapes ... or am i wrong ?
  22. thanks for all the answers ! yes, i've noticed that only 3 of the tracks overlap ... but, given the fact that the discographical informations for the 1965 sessions are not complete anyway ("grant green and others"), how much trust can we put in the accuracy of the songlistings ? and yes, i did read the old discussions about "iron city!" ... of course, i've used the search function ! i still think that it's rather strange that no one is able to name the recording location for "iron city!" ... i mean this is a professional studio recording, not a home-made demo-recording or a private concert recording ... i mean, there are so many private live recordings from the 1950s and 1960s where people have been able to identify the waitress who is ringing the cash register in the background @ MG: no 8:15 is not the "workers train" ... over here 08/15 is a common standard phrase that means "run-of-the-mill"
  23. yes, but this is what the critics in this thread are saying ... it's not about the music ... at best it's about the sound ... at worst it's about creating kitschy artifacts for collectors ("limited editions") hoffman should simply start a 500 volume series of 45rpm sets called "best of east-european polka music" ... that should be enough to keep his customers base happy (and in permanent debt)
  24. expensive limited collectors editions that are sold via online stores will not attract any new listeners ... if anything they perpetuate the image of jazz being a music for middle-aged kitsch collectors, a big turn-off for younger people -_-
  25. maybe this is a very stupid question ... but i can't help it ... i just have to ask this how do we know for sure that the "lost" 1965 album is not identical with the well-known "iron city!" album ? i mean ... all the discographical informations that are usually given for the "iron city!" album do not look very reliable ... recording year (1967?) ... recording location (unknown recording location?) ... list of players (patton on organ?) ? oh ... btw ... hello to everyone ! ... i'm new here ... sorry for my english, not a native speaker
