  1. Obviously Clark is playing these days well within his comfort zone, and why not. But the fact is that at his peak, Clark Terry was a very original and incisive player. Listen to his work with Bob Brookmeyer. At his best he was a tough player and a very long way from the easy-going mainstream player he appears to be at present-day jazz festivals.
  2. Meanwhile Rays is thriving - at least there is a lot of good stock and it looks like its thriving... Mole's decline seems ominous. There was so little stock last time I went that I would hesitate to go out of my way to get there in future. There hasn't been an auction for some time and the mail order list has vanished. I went to the new store today. Wasn't worth the trouble. Small stock of not-very-desirable LPs and a very small selection of-mostly second hand-CDs. Stick to Ray's at Foyles is my recommendation.
  3. Clark Terry, woodshedding
  4. Here's another of my Nice Jazz Festival "portfolio". Dizzy just standing in the crowd digging the music on the Garden stage.
  5. It's OK, he's actually at the end of the beer queue.
  6. Glad you liked the pic. Here's another from the same gig (nobody reading a book this time).
  7. Thought people might like this pic, taken last Friday at London's Royal Festival Hall free session. Shows excellent tenor player Mornington Locket with sensational new young vibist Jim Hart, as part of Martin Drew's band "The New Couriers".
  8. You mean like this. (picture I took of Bud Shank at the Nice jazz festival.)
