Updated again - 6 additions and removed the ones that were sold. Need that shelf space so will keep updating as I have 5 or more to sell. Thanks for looking.

Interesting. Thanks.

Up again. New discs, lower prices and some free stuff to give away with any purchase of two or more discs. The BIS Mozart set is a very good deal, by the way. I have duplicate copies of both that and the Richter set, that's the only reason I'm selling them.

Beautiful town. I've been there three times and already making plans for another visit before 2010. For live music (jazz, mostly free-jazz) and food that is not at all bad: http://www.glennmillercafe.com/ Looks like you just missed The Electrics (on the 27th) and though I know nothing about the bands scheduled to play for the rest of the week, I would go for the atmosphere and the food. Beware, food is not cheap - but not much in Stockholm is. You probably have been to the Modern Museum and the other one (is it their National Museum?) that is nearby. The walk there from the center/downtown is quite pleasant, especially if you can take some time to walk around the Old Town. For affordable LP's, i really do not know. One nice (but generally expensive) shop is Harald Hult's. The record label is called Blue Tower and so is the store, I think. I've been there a number of times but cannot recall if the store has a different name. They do not open before noon. I'm sorry but I cannot find its address at the moment, though I heard they have moved recently anyway. There are a number of other second-hand music stores in the vicinity (of where the store used to be, though his is the only vinyl specialist I can think of). I'm blanking out on the name of the metro station and the street name but hopefully someone will tell you. Salmon sushi is good in general, and relatively cheap for good sushi and there are lots of nice cafes if you have the time to walk around.

Yes, in my case.

I have volumes 2-4 (all three disc sets, I do not have the single disc volume 1 of the op.31 sonatas). These are straightforward performances with less drama than most. Leaving aside the British critics (who have hailed his Schubert and Liszt recordings from a couple of years ago as also great; and truth to tell his Schubert D958 & 959 are not bad) there were enough who were indifferent or had negative reactions, mostly because of such castration. Though they are played competently, you will hear less extreme tempos and less of a dynamic range here than in most other recordings of the sonatas. Quite good sound, recorded clearly but not too closely. His proponents have said that he is truer to the score than those "more dramatic" readings. Whether that it true or not if you already have number of recordings of these sonatas this is not a set I would recommend in that I do not think it provides a fresh/interesting perspective (whereas for a first set it might be alright, good sound, can be had relatively cheaply, and the mostly middle-of-the-road performances will not bother those with a passing familiarity of the music). Though I have not done a side-by-side comparison, of the recent cycles, I prefer to listen to Schiff's or Brautigam's (on fortepiano, of course).

Sorry to bump this twice in a week - and no new discs this time but I did take off another dollar from almost everything (the ones I did not are the discs priced between $2-4). Thanks for looking.

Re-you get what you pay for: Of course but if we take that to mean inferior/inexpert transfers I would disagree regarding the Ward Marston and Mark Obert-Thorn transfers in the Naxos Historical Series (including everything from solo to chamber to orchestral music to operas/arias). Hope you find a good deal on Schnabel's Pearls.
-
I have the Naxos discs only but from what I've read, no they are not much of a step down compared to the Pearl transfers (but this is people comparing the Pearl to the Naxos, not sure many will have had the opportunity to compare the two to the originals and decide which comes closer). Considering the age of these recordings, I am certainly satisfied with the sound on the Naxos discs (and other Obert-Thorn transfers I've heard so far).

Updated. Thanks for looking.

I do not regret buying this (at full retail price). If it's the wash/schmaltz factor you fear, have none. The strings are well integrated and arranged such that they take little - if that - away from the swing/momentum. This is based on what I remember from my most recent spin some months back so there might still be a track or two you might end up skipping but I would recommend this if you enjoy Niehaus' playing.

Revenant is planning big Albert Ayler box
gnhrtg replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks a lot for letting us know. I placed an order for the Ayler and Patton boxes soon after seeing this post. The Patton is already here and the Ayler should arrive in the next couple of days. Great prices and for once I think it actually cost them more to mail the things than what they charged me. -
Lower prices on everything. Thanks for looking.

Updated, as most of the discs are spoken for, and added three more I forgot about yesterday (C.Bley, J.D'earth, C.Corea). Also reduced the prices on the two Okka's, the Wilkins, and another. Next update in a couple of months right before we move.

Thank you, Niko.

Updated and lowered the prices on most of the remaining discs. Thanks for looking.

FS: Black Adder: Complete BBC Series 1-4
gnhrtg replied to gnhrtg's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Thanks for your help and endorsement, gentlemen. This is a funny and well done series, I agree. It's just that I've had the box for six-seven years and have watched it all enough times. There's already someone interested in the box (will depend on postage) but I will post the exact shipping costs to Europe and the US on Friday. Haven't been to the post office in a while. -

The price is down to $25 and won't go any lower (would also trade this for cd's). Thanks for looking.
