I have a copy of this (please see here) for sale. It's in good condition - the odd scratch/scuff here and there but nothing that should upset you or cause playback trouble. $30 $25 plus shipping. You can pay me with cduniverse vouchers. Thanks for looking.

Yes, I also like these performances. Fine coupling as well.

You got that right, ubu. Bud Shank is on the sextet album. And, again like you say, there is some good music on this disc (the 10" + 2 EP takes + 3 tracks with another sextet).

Updated with two additions. The next update won't be before December (and my apologies if I've been bumping this thread too often lately; I had things to sell and people were interested so I wanted to make sure they were aware of additions). Thanks for looking and thanks to all those who bought a thing or two.

5 additions (Rava, Navarro x 2, Coirvoisier/Feldman/Friedlander, Mehldau). Thanks for looking.

Updated again (added 4 discs and lowered the prices). Thanks for looking.

I'm somewhat embarrased that I was not able to guess these correctly, as I own all three albums. I'm still hoping to find time to go back and listen to a few tracks on your BFT now that the answers are available. Thanks again! Ah, so you have Gul 3's singlar 2005. Nice isn't it? I like it better than their earlier one on Crazy Wisdom. I actually prefer the longer tracks on Digger's Harvest but I wanted to keep the selections to a reasonable length.

Mine arrived as well, Nate. Thanks.

8 additions. Brough down the price of Non Troppo to $15.

That is the consensus (one that is well-nigh unanimous). -
Updated. Added a Steve Lacy disc and a free (with 2 or more discs) Lovano/Osby disc. Lower prices, almost everything is $4 now and the three Japanese issues are $7 each. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for this. I have the book but have not read any of the stories yet. By the way, simply out of curiosity, is astonomical often, or even acceptably, used in that fashion (to mean its opposite)? -
Judgment! from your list. Based on what you say, you might also enjoy his playing on Joe Henderson's Our Thing (perhaps you already have it).

Please sign me up, Nate. Since this's just about the busiest period of my PhD life so far, however, please do not be upset/disappointed if I end up posting no more than a few words. You know I'm not making this up.

Updated. Thanks for looking.

Replied to all pm's and updated the list (added Freddie Hubbard's Ready for Freddie, RVG).

I have one to sell/trade. Sent you a pm.

I'm not as enthusiastic about All Ears (though it's a great line-up, so I was somewhat disappointed), at least Foamy Wife Hum/Line, as I am about the trio and his big band. But I will give the double-disc set a spin this weekend and report here how I like it. It's been a while.

Carrothers? I have his duo CD with Stewart - another one with a bassist and drummer I couldn't listen to and gave it away. An interesting player, but a little too concerned with technique and chords, at times. I agree. The duo with Stewart has passages I renjoy, I was thinking of including the Monk tune here, though not enough for me to have kept the disc. Oh - no CD? I would have liked to hear more! No, there is. I just could not find the date of release in the booklet or on the disc (did not look online). FMRCD38-E1096. There are six short versions of Thelonious (I included the longest one), two each of Bemsha Swing and Evidence, and 9 other Monk compositions. Another album by the same trio you might want to sample is Giant Leaves (Autumn Steps). The first and the last tracks in particular. I did not include them in my BFT as each is longer than 13 minutes. An OJC to hunt? These Californians had that Brazilian groove down. Recent reissue so should be easy to find. It is a fun album. Seems I should check out this guy. Yes, please do. Especially this trio and his big band.

This one I've sort of heard. I had a review copy pass through my hands--it had a manufacturing defect, & it skipped badly, & so I asked the promoter to send a good copy; he sent a 2nd one, & it had an even more obvious defect (you can see it if you looked at the bottom surface), & it skipped too, & at that point I lost heart & just gave up trying to review it. It's "Taylor" not "Tyler" b.t.w. Nice album, though I don't think either of these tracks really makes it for me. Thanks for the correction, Nate. Don't know why I typed Tylor (not Tyler, btw). For those who enjoy these tracks and wonder about the rest of the album, I think there are two more tracks like these (brief, composed) while the others vary from about 5 to 11 minutes with a good deal of improvised solos thrown in. Decent soloists most but I would've preferred to hear more by Taylor. I like this album. It's different from most albums in the genre (conception - consists of three suites, one score to a film, instrumentation) and it mostly works. And like Tom was saying, we get to hear what else Bynum can do (and well). I suppose this is the point at which to say I basically don't like about 90% of Solal's work at all. Though there was a version of "Poinciana" on an early BFT which I thought was very good. I think that track is on The Complete Vogue Recordings, volume 1, see above.

At last! One of the ones I though was Dutch really was Dutch! Anyone who enjoyed this track should check out the album. Engaging solos, notable interplay, and a variety of interesting compositions. His big band, Bik Bent Braam (which is also the name of his label), also puts out albums well worth hearing. OK, that makes sense. This was a very handsome performance. I'll look for this CD. I'm going to see Malaby play next week in a Steve Coleman group--a reed sextet. My first time seeing him. Ought to be interesting! Malaby is talented (and can easily fit in a wide variety of contexts) but uneven, live and on record. This album is among his better efforts, about half of it is very good and the rest is not all that bad. I've also heard him play show-stealer solos in Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra. Hope you'll catch him on a good day. Huh. Usually Solal has a sense of humor... Still, everyone should hear The Complete Vogue Recordings, volume 1.

Now that's embarassing--I have this record! This is a call for me to listen to it again. I think it is an uneven two-disc set but there is enough of interest, though barely, for me to return to it once in a while. A new name for me. Thanks! It's a fine album though I am not as enthusiastic about it as Nate is/was. The the guy certainly deserves greater exposure, however. Ditto! I've seen these guys live once and they are interesting. They have an earlier album on Crazy Wisdom but I like this better. I've always read lots of good things about the Fringe, Garzone in particular, but haven't listened to them much. Unfortunately, this piece didn't do it for me at all... I regret including this track in the compilation. The Fringe does/did put out good music but most of their tracks are longer than 10 minutes. I wanted to have something by them but I should have included a segment from one of those longer pieces. Try to sample It's Time for the Fringe somewhere. Bojan Z, on the other hand, is someone whom for some reason I've had a prejudice against, based on a few things I've heard that I didn't like (Uri Caine is in the same category for me). And I liked this one, so I'll have to revise my prejudice. Thanks again! I actually do not like his playing all that much but as soon as I heard this track, I knew I would include in my BFT. It's tasteful and brief and even those familiar with Bojan's work might not be able to identify him here. I also like the first track on this album, Set It Up, but the rest I find so-so.

I will say a little more about most of the tracks in the next few days. As before, I welcome any and all reactions. It would be nice to get a conversation going.
