Michael Blake - Kingom Of Champa
This is been on my wishlist ever since I heard Blake's Elevated CD. Last week it was put up for auction on eBay. I was the only bidder, so I get the CD for $0.08 + S&H.
Another place to start is with Laurindo Almeida & Bud Shank. In the 50's they recorded two great albums, Brazilliance Volumes 1 & 2. Some of it is very beautiful, but Getz & Jobim's music is more famous.
Scott Amendola - Cry (with Nels Cline on guitar)
Fly - Fly (Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier, & Jeff Ballard)
Beta Band - The 3 E.P.'s (Got this one after seeing the movie High Fidelity)
I've been frequenting CD Baby recently. It's a great music site. Some of my favorite purchases have been: Treehouse Project - The Picture Show 3-CD set. Each track on the second disc was inspired by a picture. Very interesting concept album. Brian Patneaude - Variations Jazz quartet with some great solos by the sax & guitar players. Ivan Rosenberg - The Lost Coast Bluegrass, mostly instrumentals. Bought this one after hearing the track Wildwood Ramble.
Booooooo!!
This is horrible. Amoeba was a GREAT store. It was the only reason I would ever go to L.A. But why would I fight all the traffic and the smog and the gangsta kiddies for one little jazz rack?
I wouldn't. We have used CD stores here in San Diego too. I'll buy my jazz at Lou's instead.
