I’m surprised no one has mentioned the great "Hollywood All-Star Sessions." An expensive set to be sure, but some of his best playing IMHO.
-
I bought the CD, had the record (or perhaps still have, I'm not sure). However, I don't really listen to it much. None of the covers really do much for me. Ah well, to each their own. Perhaps I should put it up for sale on Ebay B) Anyone know what it's going for these days?

Hmm, brand new from Mosaic for $145.00, or almost new on ebay starting at $149? What to do, what to do ..... Ebay Stitt

Is Stanley Turrentine's "ZT's blues: really this rare? Stanley Turrentine ZT's Blues I have it and it's not one of my favorites. I'll trade it for the Mosaic Set!

You have to love Mosaic's customer service. I ordered this yesterday and I got it today! I'm listening to the first disc now and smiling to "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" When I go, I wouldn't mind a sendoff like the one from the Young Tuxedo Brass Band (except I wouldn't be around to hear it ) Oh, well, thanks all for giving me that push off the fence "Procrastinator" cover be gone!
-
I took a chance and ordered the ANO set today! I didn't want to see the dreaded "Procrastinator" cover taunting me when it went OOP.

I was stuck between "Guilty Pleasure" and "Good Band", but finally voted for guilty Pleasure.I bought and like their newest "Zoom" which is a nice return to form. Now if Aric would part with his cardboard spaceship (I have fond memories of seeing them during that tour)

Sorry to hear about Gene Klavan. My parents and I used to listen to him every morning while eating breakfast. Just seeing his name brought back lots of good memories. I remember that Bob and Ray were on WOR in the afternoon. Thanks for the laughs Gene!

Herbie Hancock donates instruments to Smithsonian
Alec replied to mgraham333's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Okay, I think it’s great that he is donating the instruments, but my cynical side (and the fact that I have been working on taxes) screams –“Tax write off!” -
I'm waiting to hear the Carmen Mcrae/ Sammy Davis Jr. version. Jazzmatazz has had the "Complete Carmen Mcrae/ Sammy Davis Jr. on Verve" listed as an upcoming set for literally years. Anyone know if it will ever see the light of day?

I have to say that they piss me off because they can't be removed without damaging whatever is printed underneath. I feel that the manufacturer is selling me a marred product and they owe me at least a new insert if not more for the aggravation they cause me!

Alec replied to Alec's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Geez, now people who didn't know about it are going to be looking for it! I never should have said a thing -
Anyone have a fairly inexpensive copy of this boxed set for sale? I've seen it for $125 and up, but hoping I can find it cheaper. Let me know. Thanks!

If you're an educator (of any kind) Borders is having a 25% off sale 3/26-3/28. (and right after I bought a bunch of the new JVGs and Verve re-issues )

The Man taking all my money...
Alec replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Jim, Instead of thinking it as something for nothing (which is way off anyway), think of it as a birthday present! It has been a year since the board went up. Don't let pride get in the way of people who care and want to help. -

Conn- Count me in. Hell, I'd be happy to support Jim and this site. I'd consider it more than fair. I downloaded the great Holiday songs. Can we set up a paypal account for Jim that the Government can't touch? This is what a community is all about; helping others! Someone set this up, let us know, and start the money flow! -
Ditto! Grading papers and enjoying the music. Keep up the good work. (and keep reminding me you're on)

I finally got my Christmas present from my sister and her husband--- a $100 Mosaic gift certificate. B) The question is--what to get. I'm thinking of one of the following: Hank Mobley Anita O'Day (I know it's over $100 but...) Gerry Mulligan + a select Horace Parlan Stanley Turrentine 2 or 3 selects I have the Tristano, Konitz, Marsh otherwise that would be a priority. I'm not sure about the Atlantic New Orleans (although I did pick up the latest Preservation Hall cds and I like them) Help me!

Ubu-- I'm glad you like it. This is one of those sets that never fails to put a smile on my face, especially the "Cleanhead" sides.

My pick would have to be Bob & Ray. They never fail to crack me up!
