  1. Not a Trekkie but, after watching the YouTube xybert linked to, I could watch more. I wasn't aware the actors from the series did the voices for a cartoon version. The animation was very Johnny Quest like but that was a favorite of mine as a kid.
  2. Roy Eldridge Mosaic, disc 6, the Dixieland session. I'll play the other discs (haven't listened to disc 7 yet) more than this maybe. But they sure are having fun and for a studio recording to have this much energy (some over the top drumming and all) is pretty unique. Committed playing all around. I've gained a greater appreciation for Roy Eldridge because of this set.
  3. Roy Eldridge Verve Studio sessions, disc 5 with Benny Carter. Some of my favorite Benny Carter......and RE responds......and/or vice versa. Either way, this is a classic session.
  4. Eldridge set arrived today. Playing disc 1 now. I am really going to enjoy this set. I'm also glad to be able to hear the music from my Diz and Roy Verve double album again (don't have a working turntable anymore) which I haven't listened to in probably 15 years, along with all the Roy in this set I haven't heard. Thanks again Pete.
  5. From an AP article about the request for complete transcripts of Cosby and his victims' testimony: " 'Although some of the women engaged in consensual relations with Cosby, their accounts substantiated defendant's alleged predilection for somnophilia', Troiani wrote in her motion Wednesday, referring to a term used to describe someone aroused by having sex with an unconscious person."
  6. On July 20th at 7:00pm at Night Town in Cleveland, Ohio, "Sound of Redemption" will be screened followed by the Richie Cole/Jackie Warren duo.
  7. Sent a second PM confirming paypal payment. Thanks Pete.
  8. Sending a PM on the Roy Eldridge set.
  9. I became aware of both Speights and Livingston because they were Cavaliers for a short time and were strong players for us. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes as to why they left or were dealt, I'm not sure. But I believe they felt the Cavs at that time would not be contenders. Livingston is one of the heroes to me having suffered that horrendous injury that would have ended the career of many other players. Probably more than anyone else on the Warriors, I'm glad he got his ring. As far as Love and Irving, yes they would have improved the Cavs options significantly. But even with them healthy I believe the Cavs are one strong backup point guard short of having the lineup they need to be effective and efficient enough to contend again. With that said, I think the team to watch in the east next year is the Miami Heat. (And, finally, Steve Kerr is going to be a great coach in this league for a long time.)
  10. Jim R, your comments are spot on and critical to a team's success. "It was great to be more healthy this time around"......I'm sure the Warriors from two years ago and last year also "worked their asses off" in the attempt to be successful but were less effective at that time because of those injuries. And the way to maintain health deep into the playoffs is to have a "deep and versatile team, allowing players to avoid playing heavy minutes all season long". To have skilled players like Livingston and Barbosa who are versatile enough to spell off Curry, Barnes and Thompson for major minutes is a credit to the GM. Even players like Bogut and Speights, who were not as effective in the finals, were significant players during the season and helped to share those minutes and avoid some of the wear and tear of a long season. For me it was fun to see two teams who traditionally either do not make the playoffs or don't last long into the postseason, compete in the finals. (Not to mention the connection of one of my favorite players growing up, Nate Thurmond who played for both teams.) Congratulations!
  11. Looks like the Warriors have 8 players on the court vs 3 Cavs players. What a drubbing. Edited to say Cavs somehow are only down by 2 at the half after being down by 13. Second edit to say........nevermind.
  12. As a Cavs fan I predict they will lose tonight unable to keep up in the fourth quarter. But my perfect ending would be that the Cavs fans stay even as it becomes obvious they will lose the game and, when the buzzer sounds, they give the Cavs a deserved standing ovation for what they have done this season and what they've accomplished in the playoffs. LeBron said before the series that they couldn't guarantee a win but they would guarantee they "will play their asses off." And that's exactly what they've done with the team they have.
  13. CLEVELAND – Barber Nick Castemanos has grown tired of getting asked over and over again about the hairline of his most famous client, LeBron James. "There is no dye. No additives. No preservatives," Castemanos told Yahoo Sports in a phone interview Thursday. "Everyone thinks he's dying his hair using [temporary hair colorings] Bigen or Black Ice. It's all his hair. They still don't believe me. I get Bigen comments all the time. "I've become numb to it. It used to bother me. It's not easy to hear that."
  14. Man, that's for sure. It was destined to happen finally with no Kyrie Irving or Kevin Love available to give the Cavs a 9 man rotation and give every player some quality rest. But worse was, previously, Golden State got little offense from Draymon Green and Harrison Barnes. Last night the Cavs got little from their streak shooters, J.R. Smith (4 points), Imman Shumpert (5 points) and James Jones (0 points) while Green got 17 points and Barnes 14 points not to mention Iguodala's 22 points that forced Mozgov away from the basket and hurt our rebounding dominance. Undermanned and overmatched the rest of the way.
  15. Kyrie Irving did himself proud and showed himself to be right up there with the Stephen Currys. And if Shumpert sank that last shot Cavs would be 1-0 and Kyrie would still be available. It's a game of inches and periodic luck but, man, just one missed shot at the end and everything changed. Now the series is probably over. The Cavs did a great job getting 6 excellent players but they need more depth. Kyrie Irving and Anderson Varajoe (sp?) are excellent players but injury prone who, I believe, can contribute consistently if their minutes are decreased. Next year, if Love is back and a hopefully healthy Varajoe and Irving can play quality reduced minutes, I think the Cavs are one strong back up point guard away from being successful next year.

    Claude Jones

+1 +2 Also what's valuable about posts like this is that everyone hopes for a legacy of some sort with the recognition that comes with it. So here is mention of an overlooked but wonderful player who does have a legacy and recognition because of posts like jeff's that increase others' (mine, for one) awareness of him. And, of course, thanks to this forum for providing the vehicle.

    Lew Soloff RIP

As a junior high school and high school trumpet student, I and others in the trumpet section tried to emulate Lew Soloff (unsuccessfully). Listened to the BS&T tunes with his solos over and over again. Very sad to hear this.
  18. Or turn the volume down. :-)
  19. I've previously posted a quote from Randy Weston about Monk, the pianist. My original post was accurate. Now I can't recall the exact wording. Anyway, during a preconcert interview discussing Monk's influence on Weston, RW said, when he first heard Monk's piano playing he thought "I can play better than that". Then as he heard and studied more of Monk's music, he realized that Monk used the piano less as a European concert instrument and more as a percussion instrument.
  20. ".....doors once blown open raise a lot of interesting questions about residence, property and sanctuary." I love that sentence and all it's implications.
  21. I love the first cut from Organic. A tenor guitar duet. Beautiful tenor sound, simple and effective.
  22. Posters who I have a lot of respect for say they love this set. Nuts. I missed it. Again.
  23. Along with similarly reading everything that was written or seeing every painting and drawing that has been done, the consideration of it sounds so reclusively obsessive in addition to being impossible to achieve that, to me, it does not sound like a natural condition outside of an interesting, for some, math exercise, computer program or guesstimate ("how long would it take"). So I'll vote for fuel for paralysis, especially if you have to consider the many high school and junior high band recordings over the years that would have to be added to the "pile". Some things don't need knowing or even considering. :-)
  24. I have the european Universal copy and hear no distortion on disc 6.
  25. No mention Of Reese's? I have an imaginary conversation with "Reese" in the marketing department where I respond to his idea by telling him that consumers love peanut butter and consumers love chocolate but combining the two would be a poor business decision. That, of course, would have been the end of my career in marketing. :-)
