The earlier years of my addiction:
Modern Jazz Quartet - Pyramid
Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch
Andrew Hill - Point of Departure
Bobby Hutcherson - Components
Grachan Moncur III - Evolution
Mike,
Thanks for this - I think every track was at least enjoyable. More than made up for the weird stress that seemed to be present by being involved.
As a bonus there are a few things to go look for.
I shall even let the slap of "I was surprised that a Canadian board member knew Dell!" go without comment!
Michael
This is a most enjoyable experience - MJQ's Pyramid was one of my first jazz LPs (in 1966 I think) and I have had an affection for vibes ever since.
7. Sounds like it could be Christopher Dell. I chanced upon him at emusic under the name Christopher Drell DRA. I like this very much but have no idea what the tune is.
Number 2 is Four and Three from New Ideas - Don Ellis Quintet (Al Francis vibes, Ron Carter - bass, Jaki Byard - piano, Charli Persip - drums.)
I always forget how much I like Don Ellis' stuff and this has reminded me again.
Absolutely agree Patricia.
Ken Finkleman is a national treasure (Airplane II, Grease 2, Good God and a Fellini obsession notwithstanding!)
Did you see his Good Dog - same character different environment? Different but I really really liked it.
Then Good God - so over the top and (sadly, considering the topic) stunningly obvious. Shockingly awful.
