  1. That's very sad - much too young. Unfortunately, looks like his close relatives were also very short-lived.
  2. The Liberty vinyl of that one is absolutely outstanding.
  3. Great album - Muhal cooks on that one. Currently spinning: Wayne Shorter 'Adams Apple' (BN blue label Liberty - wow, sounds great) Donald Byrd 'Fancy Free' (BN Liberty) Kenny Cox 'Multidirection' (BN Liberty, needs to be reissued on CD )
  4. Don't know that particular Linn power amp but the Linn amps I have heard have had impressively tight musical reproduction. I find the same thing with Naim with regard to customer service here in the UK. When I give them a call they are able to check up the full service history on all my kit - particularly useful for the Hi-Cap obtained second-hand. The fact that they are 20 miles down the road in Salisbury also helps ! Both Linn and Naim seem to attract very loyal customer bases.
  5. But presumably if you have the 'Congo Lament' rainbow-series LT LP and the Japanese pressings of the originals (including '45 Sessions' (Toshiba)/'Minor Revelations' (King)) then you are sorted...
  6. That's good to hear ! Which model of Linn power amp is the one that blew up?
  7. Picked up the TOCJ of 'The Rajah' at Tower in a shopping mall in central Tel Aviv (I think it worked out around $10). I've got the suspicion (based on news broadcasts) that this mall has since been targetted successfully by suicide bombers..
  8. Grant Green 'Street Of Dreams' (BN Liberty stereo)
  9. The Mercury VSOP Album set I have has the regular 4 LPs. No extra disc ← Sounds like some weird things going on with these extra disks, Brownie. I have checked the set picked up at the JRC last week and it is a blue and white 'EP' of 'Mildama' by the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet. This box isn't signed by 'the Man' though
  10. The light brown label is on the top inside of the front. Says 'This 1986 issue of the Complete Keynote Collection is a Limited Edition. Your Copy No........ Signed by Kiyoshi Koyama'. That said, I have seen other copies of the set without signed label, otherwise box is identical. Some of the sets have the blue and white disk ('Untitled Blues' - maybe not strictly an EP but I think of it as such), others I have seen seem to be missing it. Suspect that all sets originally had the extra disk when purchased. The extra disk format also seems to have been used with the Mercury VSOP set that was also issued around this time. As mentioned though, it is the quality of the music that counts and this is unbeatable. Bottom line is that for your $200 - $300 you are getting fantastic bang-per-buck music wise. $100 from Amoeba is an incredible deal !
  11. I once bought a Mingus Tijuana Moods reissue and a Parker 'Summit Meeting at Birdland' in a small fire/liquidation place that only lasted a few weeks. Both LPs had burn marks at the back and soot inside but the vinyl was OK.
  12. There's a place I use here in the UK that deals in three extreme fetishes only. Sci-Fi memorabilia, wall-mounted autographed photos of film and TV stars and modern jazz vinyl.
  13. I believe that the first 1000 copies of this box were signed on the inside front cover by Mr 'Boxman' Koyama and included the Lennie Tristano EP. These are probably likely to fetch a premium. For price comparisson purposes my box workedout about £135 in mint so that's around $200ish. I don't think it had even been played. I figured I had a pretty good deal for one of the '1000' in mint so if you can get it for $200-$250 in that condition you are doing well. Great set !
  14. I like the set too - as mentioned above it is very well recorded for the period and is chock-a-block with great West Coast soloists. Makes a nice combo with the Kenton/Holman/Russo set and sounds particularly good on the Q-LP version (attention : DrJ ). I think the CD version of the Kenton set was also sold at outlets such as Tower, as well as directly from Mosaic themselves. I really don't listen to this set enough so a good reminder to put it in the 'pending' area.
  15. Now playing Art Blakey 'Orgy In Rhythm Vol 2' (BN 47W63, no DG).
  16. Gerald Wilson Orchestra 'Eternal Equinox' (World Pacific). Interesting to hear this one on the vinyl format as distinct from the Mosaic CD. Jean Luc Ponty is just doing his modal fiddling thing on 'Scorpio Rising'..
  17. Thanks, spinlps. I'm glad that I remembered your post when I saw this one at the JRC. Haven't even opened it yet as there's other stuff to try out that I picked up in NYC but am looking forward to this one. The great Mr Kiyoshi 'Boxman' Koyama did some mighty fine vinyl sets, of which this one and the Keynote are prime examples.
  18. I would have included 'Zoltan' from 'Unity'
  19. More Kirk. This time 'Slightly Latin' (Limelight, original stereo). Really like this album, can never work out why it keeps on getting a lukewarm rap. Sound of the LP is also most noticeably better than that on the Mercury CD box.
  20. At least one of the Commodore Mosaics (after vinyl-to-CD transfer) or maybe a Keynote box?
  21. Up again with this thread. I remembered the thread when I saw the set last week at the Jazz Record Center in NYC. Have acquired the set (which also has the EP) and look forward to spinning it over the next few days. Looks to be in mint.
  22. Nice score ! I don't have the Fuller on vinyl but the Q-LP sets I do have are great listening. If this one is up to the standard of the Thad Jones, Jackie McLean, Sam Rivers and Horace Parlan then you will be impressed. The Fuller is of course full of very fine material and some of the original LPs are hard to find (Bone 'n' Bari for example) so this is a good one to get. I wish Joe of Euclid had brought along some of these LP sets in his boxes at the New Jersey Record Bash last week..
