  1. That makes me sad, a player that I will TRULY miss being able to watch play the game. Even though single handily he cost the 49ers two more Super Bowl victories in the 90's I will miss him too. Happy for Aaron Rogers. Lets see what he has.
  2. Kenny Werner - Lawn Chair Society and Steve Kuhn - Live At Birdland were two of my favorite records last year. The Ron Carter was also very good. I thought it was a good year for Bluenote.
  3. The hell you say! In defense of Barry Bonds unlike other sports stars he has never done any of the following: 1. hurt a fan in the stands 2. make it rain at a strip club and paralyzing a bouncer 3. supervised any murders or stabbings 4. ran a doggie Auschwitz 5. ran a backyard fight to the death with razors Foster Farms 6. ran over a meter maid 7. committed felony homicidal DUI I know I am setting the bar pretty low but thats kind of where things are at right now.
  4. Tim Raines, who debuted this year on the Hall of Fame ballot and if there is any justice, will ultimately make it in the next five or six years. Yeah Tim Rains, I agree. But Andre Dawson should get in first. Expos had some good teams back then with those two and Garry Carter and one of my all time favorite pitchers in Spaceman Lee.
  5. ^ well it was the cocaine era. what was the name of the lead off hitter for the Expos around this time when asked why he slid head first said he did so because the cocaine was in his back pocket.
  6. I have been saying it for years and I will say it again the 80's = Worst Decade Ever! on so many levels. Dodger Suck!
  7. I took away the link. Thanks. I will talk to Steve Silberman this week and see if there is a update on the 73 Winterland Box.

    Ralph Towner

Solstice and Solo Concert are my two of my favorites by him. He is also great on Gary Burton's Match Book.
  9. I own the recent Original LP re-issue of this and the sound quality is amazing and a huge improvement to my ears. I am really enjoy this and the Coltrane Impulse Originals that just came out.
  10. Yea, that is a great site. I use it. Not too much energy required: I think they don't want the link posted on sites, anyway is anybody following the two guys who are reviewing every show from 74. Its a really great read.
  11. Dave Stewart on the race issue. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...9/SPTEVATBE.DTL "As a black man, looking at it through my eyes, you have to understand maybe race is the reason nobody wanted to look at Roger like they looked at Barry," Stewart said when reached by phone Thursday. "In years past, when all the speculation was on Barry, I said maybe you need to look at Roger as well. "It's unjust people were looking only at Barry. They were exactly the same. The exact same creature." In those years, Stewart was 7-0 in games when matched with Clemens. Overall, he was 7-1 in the regular season and 2-0 in the 1990 American League Championship Series. Clemens' record against Stewart was 1-8, his only win coming in their first showdown, in 1984 when Stewart pitched for Texas. From there, Clemens' most notable meltdown came in Game 4 of the '90 ALCS. With his Red Sox about to be swept and on the verge of another loss to Stewart, Clemens went berserk in the second inning, charged plate umpire Terry Cooney and got ejected. Clemens let down his team at a vital moment rather than accepting defeat, and Stewart now sees Clemens caught in a similar dilemma, making life harder than necessary on himself and acting as his own worst enemy by taking his case to Congress. "The best thing Roger could've done is shut up and let it go away, and it would've gone away," Stewart said. "People want to believe everything Roger projects himself to be, and this would've blown over. Now if they find out he did HGH and steroids, he'll never go to the Hall of Fame and he'll be proven one big liar who tried to pull a scam on everybody." Interesting take from one of my hero's growing up. As much as I hate Roger I feel he still deserves to be in HOF with Bonds.
  12. I say that every month but then I look at the 96 records in my saved for later list and keep going.
  13. 6/74 Boston - Providence makes up Dicks Picks 12. Highly recommended. The Let It Grow-Spanish-Eyes is what makes the 7-19-74 for me. I pretty much live in the 73-74 era.
  14. I am putting him on the ignore list like I did over at AAJ before he ruins puppies and ice cream for me also. NP: 7-19-74!
  15. ^ I would say most Warriors fans were 60-40 against. I think some thought he actually helped Detroit last year and might be able to bring some of that here. I always thought he was a phony and soft but I will say he was the best passing big man I ever saw in person. His rookie season running the break with Billy Owens was a thing of beauty. Sadly it all went waaaaay down hill after that for Golden State. Last years playoffs was like a exorcism of the 14 years of horrendous basketball that preceded it for the fans.
  16. Allan, Thanks for the post. This Junior Parker Sun Sessions is on emusic but it doesn't list who plays on it. Is it safe to assume Pat Hare would be on these? http://www.emusic.com/album/Little-Junior-...d/10932980.html
  17. I hope so because C-Webb is giving us nothing. The Warriors are just one player away from a championship, sadly that player is Dwight Howard. At this point I would say the title is Lakers to lose.
  18. Ahmad's last record for Argo, Extensions is one one of my all time favorite Piano Trio recordings. I would love to see it get the re-master treatment. I wonder if the Mosaic will go up to 1965. He has something close to 15 titles with Argo.
  19. I agree. Well said. I will let you know how the show is when they play in SF. I hear live they are less restrained. Off to go look up Hatfield.
  20. Not sure if I would single out Maddux out of that staff. I think what the Braves did for 14 years during the Roids-juiced ball-small ball park era is mind boggling. I would say what they did was more impressive than what the 60's Dodgers and Orioles staffs did. I am no Braves fan but that staff never got the praise it deserved. For those of you that will say "but they only won one World Series" find me a recent city out side of Boston and New York that would turn down 14 division titles and a championship in 14 years.
  21. Keep hearing good things about it.
  22. I just put this on before I come over to the computer. Good record. Might have to check out the new one with Abercrombie coming up.
  23. With you on that. Good point.
  24. I read Mark Turner will joining them this week as well. Damn what a band. Rava, Bollani, Motian and Grenadier. Can someone please go for me?
