  1. I am enjoying you thoughts on these as your going though them, keep em coming. When I went through new remaster of Rubber Soul I was thinking that while obviously some songs are better than others there isn't a lousy track or throw away on the whole thing. Even toward the end its keeps going strong with If I Needed Someone and Run For Your Life.
  2. You can't argue with him, I tried a thousand times that the Dodger players and fans don't take it as seriously when the Giants go through periods of not fielding a competitive team when the Dodgers are good. He doesn't and won't ever get it. But what do you expect from someone who said of a team with highest attendance in all of baseball that their fans don't go to the games or support their team. Im done with him, at least Dan will backup his hate with facts once in a while. You forgot the Steve Sax game where he got the beer tossed on him when going for the foul ball at the Stick. I kind of miss the hardcore fans who went to the stick but I would never call Giants fans classy back then. The reason baseball doesn't have Twilight Double headers anymore is thanks to one between the Giants and Dodgers at the Stick in the late 80's.
  3. I spent an hour today just playing Ask Me Now and Monks Mood on the piano. Then put on The Unique Thelonious Monk and Brilliant Corners.
  4. Going back and forth between the Iowa/Michigan and Florida/LSU. Don't have a rooting interest but enjoying them.
  5. Wow the Cardinals didn't even put up a fight tonight. It goes back to game 1, 1st inning when the Cards had the bases loaded with no outs and Holiday goes up looking for the walk and takes the 3 straight strikes for the K and the Cards only get one run that inning. Congrats to the Dodgers, I knew they had a great line up but their pitching impressed me all year long. Maybe if it ever stops snowing we might get a NLCS and WS. I love baseball and it wouldn't be fair to the fans of the other teams left but I hate Bud Selig enough to want to see him deal with having either to cancel the Wolrd Series or deprive Colorado of having a home game. It would sever him right for delaying the season for that stupid world baseball classic.
  6. Ghost, I loved the October 1964 Halberstam book also. It was such a shame he passed they way he did. I once worked with a young Yankee fan and told him about how great the book was and he said, did the Yankees win the WS that year? When I said no he said well why would I want to read that?
  7. Yet the Dodgers lead all of MLB Baseball this year in attendance. http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance If you remember back in Spring Training the Dodgers said that their rival going into the year were the DBacks since the Dbacks came in second in 08 and won NL West in 07 while the Giants were under 500 those years. Just because when your team is playing the Dodgers and TO YOU its the most important thing in the world the actual players might feel differently. For what its worth I am happy the Giants are good again and the rivalry this year TO US THE FANS was more exciting because of the Giants improvement, their improvement obviously made it for a more exciting rival for the players on both teams also.
  8. To my ears the later remastered RVG's of the early Conns on CD sound better. The 180 gr vinyl of the Conns blow away both of the CD formats. Thats just me. Most of the new CD RVG's are priced around what a used copy of the Conn's would go for if you can still find them.
  9. I haven't done a back to back test of it compared to the K2 of All Morning Long but its fresh in my memory as it was a recent purchase and I think your right. Curious on your thoughts on Disc 1 in regards to the sound.
  10. Not that I disagree but I would maybe move the line up to the single that came out right before Help in I Feel Fine. Not quite as heavy as Ticket To Ride but its got that great rif and with the feedback at the beginning it was the kind of launching of making the recording studio their instrument.
  11. I saw him open for Andrew Hill with selections from that tribute album at SF Jazz a few years back. I thought they were great. The record is one of those you have to be in the mood for so I don't spin it a lot but its worth checking out. I love Nels in Wilco as well, in fact I like Wilco a lot more now because of him. The article was a good read. Scott Amendola has been a long time local favorite.
  12. Listening to disc 1 now. Mating Call sounds better to me on the RVG, but sounds good here, this session sounds to me as it always did. It IS a slightly different sounding album than some of it's contemporaries. There is less depth to the sound than some other Englewood Cliff recordings. The other discs in the set should sound better. The Ray Draper sessions on Disc 5 sound much warmer and rich to me then some of the Hope/Dameron sessions on Disc 1 that sound a little distorted. Probably a combination of the sound boost for the CD remasters and that the sessions on Disc 1 were probably recorded too hot anyways. Once my ear got use to the sound on disc 1 it stopped bothering me. Great set and packaging all around.
  13. My bad, the Bill Evans was a six disc set. Great deal at the mistake price.
  14. I noticed that - very odd. You would think with all the activity they might get suspicious. Amazon and b&N are both selling them for 49.00. On the previous Best Buy 5 disc jazz boxes that went for 15 bucks. Bill Evans Turn Our the Stars Box is now 39.99 and Coltrane - The Impulse! Albums: Vol. 1 is now 44.99. Anyway, got my shipment notice.
  15. 58 Miles is one of my favorites. Bill Evans opening lock hand intro on On Green Dolphin Street and Cannonball's swinging solo on Love For Sale I return to time and time again. I have had the vinyl version for many years. Track Listing: 1. On Green Dolphin Street 2. Fran Dance 3. Stella By Starlight 4. Love For Sale 5. Little Melonae Also highly recommend the great sounding remaster of Kind Of Blue 2 disc Legacy Edition that came out this year. Miles 58 takes up Disc 2. Track listing which does not included Little Melonae: 1. On Green Dolphin Street 2. Fran-Dance 3. Stella By Starlight 4. Love For Sale 5. Fran-Dance (Alternate Take) 6. So What (Live April 9th, 1960)
  16. ^thanks. will grab this on emusic asap.
  17. I think it just never got finished conceptually. It was originally written in Rishikesh with a more spiritual theme but right before the recording the student rebellions and strikes in Paris took place so the song got changed. Lennon didn't really believe in overthrowing governments, but revitalizing them. In the Spitz Beatles Bio, both Lennon and McCartney both felt the song was conceptually clumsy, where Lennon couldn't get off the fence with a position (nor did he want the be held to one). So he tried to cover all the bases with the count me "out....in".
  18. There is something magical about his playing and the sound of that record. That record just has that IT factor.
  19. I know you hate the Dodgers but seriously every team in the NL West is the Giants rival, they are the teams you need to pass to get to the playoffs, every team in the AL West is the A's rival. I won't root for the Dodgers or the Angels this post season. Rivalries really only exists for the teams (for fans its different) when both teams are good, sadly the A's were not worthy of being a rival this year even if A's fans hate the Angels, the Angel players for the most part probably didn't give a crap. Texas this year was their rival. This year was the first since 2004 were the Giants were worth of being called the Dodgers rival.
  20. 2nd the recommendations for the new live record from 69 Without A Song and Blue Spirits. As a sideman there are so many great ones like on Speak No Evil by Wayne Shorter and Caravan with the Jazz Messengers. My absolute favorite though is his playing on Herbie Hancock-Empyrean Isles.
  21. I would be surprised if its not a Cards - Yanks WS, but its hard to count out the WFC's with that line up and top of rotation. If it comes down to a Cards-Phils NLCS it will be a war and entertaining as it gets. Love the Rays, you just need a new yard and another 200 million in payroll to compete in the AL East every year. Good luck.
  22. It was also posted in another thread. I love it when Best Buy does this. They did it with the 1st Coltrane Impulse Box and the Shoot Out The Stars Bill Evans box.
  23. You are rooting for the team the not only kept you out of the playoffs this year (ok, maybe the Braves would have also) but also the same team that went 0-16 against the Atlanta Braves in 1993. Had the Rookies won one stinking game against the Braves that year, your 103 win Giants with two 20 game winners at the top of the rotation and a Will Clark, Matt Williams and a Barry Bonds in their prime that would have probably gone all the way, if only had the Rookies just won one game against the Braves, like maybe one of four they played against them the last week of the season, then Salman Torres would have never have happened Rockies. Go Rockies? Some Giants fan you are.
  24. ^ Agree. Someday My Prince Will Come from 61 is one of his best. Been spinning it all week.
  25. Looks like a great show. I will hit the archives of that. Love early Benson.
