Add me to the list for download link please, Durium. Do I need to send a PM too? - I guess not.
-
Thanks, Dave, and all. All is well.

Does anyone know what's going on at tripod? Many websites have just disappeared it seems, without explanation, including our site on Ronnie Ross.
-
Paul Chambers Billy Higgins (less duplication than I thought - only 19) Ronnie Ross! Gerry Mulligan Hank Jones
-
I'd take everything with Paul Chambers on it. I thought of the same principle but was considering Billy Higgins. However, Mr P C totals 701 here whereas BH only 560 (just as a rule of thumb guide to possible total recordings). So...

Thanks for the PM, Ray - all is now clear.

I have a friend who is keen on jazz accordion. Started me off with Buddy de Franco and Tommy Gumina - four LP's, but the one in question came much later. But surely most people will recognise the trumpet player - whatever his limitations might have been as a jazz player, he did not lack an individual style, altough his real strengths lay elsewhere. Puzzled about the tune - I thought it was the one I haven't got, missing from the CD but not vinyl (as you mentioned earlier, Ray). Still, all will be clear before too long.
-
I thought some were very free of clicks. Even from MP3's they mostly sound good.
-
3 sounds like Mulligan, Brookmeyer, Mike Santiago and Dave Samuels to me but I don't know what it is - don't think I've got it. I like 14 a lot too but haven't got any ideas yet.
-
I've been playing 12 - no clue - just wanted to say how much I like it! Sounds a bit like Johnny Griffin I thought but probably not.
-
Slow going here. How about Freddie Hubbard on 2, and maybe Bobby Hutcherson? Tell me if I'm warm, won't you? -_-

I'm going to have to listen to this disc through again but just to get the ball rolling I would like to enter the title track of this albumas the answer to number 4. I have the LP but the hole in the middle is only in the right place for one side. Playing the other side was only possible by judicious filing and trying to keep the disc in position as it revolved by various mostly ineffective means. So the music is fairly indelibly etched in my memory. The tenor style is quite distinctive and no doubt many will recognise. A favourite album - I've got it all on another medium now - and a favourite tenor player. Editing - got the wrong link in there!

9. Don’t know the tune – intrigued to know who this is – not Tal, is it? 10. Don’t know what this is – like it, though. 11. Don’t know again. 12. Aha! That trumpet is a dead giveaway - only took me a very short time to get him - and with accordion too - pirates could be in it here if you put the two names together. My guess is therefore the last track on this album. 13. Don’t know anything about this - and ditto for 14, 15 and 16. Picking off the easy ones?
-
4. “I Remember Clifford” - don’t know who but nice version. 5. “Nearness” – trombone not familiar to me but going along fine until we got to the “English Country Garden“ quote at the end! No guesses again. 6. A bit of it sounds like “C Jam Blues”. This goes a bit beyond my range – no ideas at all. 7. I like this one but still no clue. 8. “Ghost Riders in the Sky” – unusual tune in jazz. So I know who this is – his first album.
-
Lots of good stuff - made an interesting and varied listen. 1. “’Round Midnight” or “’Round about Midnight” – I don’t recognize the tenor or the piano. Could it be Moody or Stitt? Just wild guesses. 2. Don’t know anything about this one either. Seems a nicely paced rendering – no idea of the tune. 3. The vibes player is unmistakable I thought and that edged trumpet too once the vibes is known. Two oriental connections! last track of this?

I for one haven't got anything better to do over Christmas than listen to these discs - in fact, I've already done so and comments are more or less prepared. My best Christmas present, although I can't say the competition was all that hot. Certainly nothing not to like on either; good variety, something for everyone and it's always interesting to hear kinds of music one doesn't usually listen to isn't it? So ready to go whenever you are, Ray. Rodney

Thanks, Ray - I've downloaded both with no problems and played a little bit to make sure they're okay. Sounds good. It's good to hear that you are sold on the notion. FLAC would take about four times as long I have roughly worked out - too long? The reason I asked is because I do not intend to compile again and would not feel right just receiving discs. I know it is felt in some quarters that just to participate is enough and that's fine too I guess. Would it not be better for any download links to be sent in emails or PM's rather than put in posts though?Presumably posted links can be used by anyone, even non-members just looking. Like that you could keep track of participants too. Some sites have a limit on the number of times files can be downloaded I think. Rodney

Is there any chance of this BFT being may available for download by anybody?

I deleted the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography from our website by mistake. I wasn't going to bother with it but after some thought and a couple of enquiries, I decided to put it back. So it's there now for anyone who's interested - www.ronnieross.com.

I still have a standing request here for any information about Ronnie Ross and particularly album cover pictures that I don't have. There is also an invitation to contact me about free downloads of Ronnie Ross music. Both of these are no longer current. I am winding up my activity in respect of Ronnie Ross. The website (www.ronnieross.com) is still there but I am no longer participating and have cancelled the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography (which was all my own work). Many thanks to all those who have helped.

An "album" on our website celebrating Ronnie Ross (www.ronnieross.com) now has a picture as below. Not a proper issue but one that has been available for download for some time now. It's a very good session and if anyone would like to hear the music, PM me and I will send you a link to download. Only disc 1 so far but if there's any take up I will make disc 2 available as well.

And then there was one. Got a picture at least although I had hoped to buy the album. Went beyond my price on eBay. Here's the picture, which I have just put up on our website www.ronnierss.com So now there is just one item left on the list, although I'd still be interested if anyone spots different covers from the ones I've got. Thank you to all who try, even if unsuccessful! 1. 55/1 Leader: Tony Crombie Dates: March 13, 31, May 17, July 7, September 9 and September 1955 Venue: London Label: Decca DFE6281, F10514, 10620, F10547 [6 7], F10592 [9 10], F10637 [11 13] Album Titles: Tony Crombie and his Orchestra, Presenting Tony Crombie Vol 2 (EP)

Got the answer to my question - John Chilton's Feetwarmers were - in addition to the man himself on trumpet - Stan Greig piano, Barry Dillon bass and Chuck Smith drums. In Lord, it seems, which I do not have immediate access to.
-
Just received my copy of LP "Melly Sings Hoagy" - I had to shell out almost £1 for it! Here's the picture, but can anyone tell me who were the members of John Chilton's Feetwarmers in January 1978? Don't seem to be able to find anything on this.

List of cover pictures still sought is now down to two. I found one for "George Melly Sings" and have satisfied myself that "Chris Smith and his String of Pearls Orchestra" is not appropriate to a jazz discography. 1. 55/1 Leader: Tony Crombie Date: March 31 1955 Venue: London Label: Decca DFE6281, F10514, 10620, F10592, F10637 Album Titles: Annie Ross with Tony Crombie and his Orchestra, Presenting Tony Crombie No. 2 (EP) 2. 58/7 Leader: (Melody Maker All Stars) Date: November 1958 Venue: London Label: Pye Nixa NJT518 Album Title: (Melody Maker Jazz Poll 1958/1959)
