Thanks for posting this, Clandy! That last paragraph was a good one! Keep an eye on THIS THREAD, too, in case Chris A. (Christiern) adds an anecdote.

Up for this NY Times Obit (pasted from clandy44's "Misc Music" thread here): BTW, Christiern -- did you know McHenry Boatwright? I'd thought of asking you this earlier in the week. When I was a freshman in college I sang in the chorus in a performance of Beethoven's 9th, conducted by Gunther Schuller (oops, I'm name-dropping), for which McHenry Boatwright was the baritone soloist -- beautiful voice.

TOTALLY, Rachel! (My son was "only" 9 lbs 3 oz!)

Surely, you're not going to just leave us hanging with this ... Yeah, SURELY not! Who does this leave of either Ellington siblings or offspring? Nobody? Mercedes is Duke's granddaughter, right? Right, Mercedes is Mercer's daughter (Mercer died in 1996?), and her son Paul is currently leading the Ellington Orchestra, I think.

He's beautiful! Congratulations! (and >10 lbs -- whoa -- to mommy)

ABSOLUTELY an hommage, I have no doubt. Did you know that Georgia Hubley (YLT drummer-vocals) is the daughter of Faith and John Hubley, animated filmmakers whose works include: The Cosmic Eye (A film by Faith Hubley, music by Benny Carter & others, 71 min.) Voyage to Next (Music by Dizzy Gillespie, 10 min.) Of Men and Demons (Music by Quincy Jones, 10 min.) The Hole (Music by Quincy Jones, voices of Dizzy Gillespie and George Mathews, 15 min.) The Tender Game (Music by Ella Fitzgerald and The Oscar Peterson Trio, 6 min.) Eggs (Music by Quincy Jones, 10 min.) Urbanissimo (Music by Benny Carter, 6 min.) Harlem Wednesday (Music by Benny Carter, 10 min.) The Adventures of * (Music by Benny Carter, Soloist: Lionel Hampton, 10 min.) Of Stars and Men (Music of Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Vivaldi, 53 min.) The Hat (Music and voices of Dizzy Gillespie and Dudley Moore, 18 min.) Dig (Music by Quincy Jones, 25 min.) Some of the above scores are on this CD (not that I've heard it): Benny Carter / Dizzy Gillespie / Quincy Jones: "Journey To Next" [Lightyear Entertainment]. Music from a number of films made by John and Faith Hubley including Carter's score for "Urbanissimo" which was shown at the Montreal World's Fair, Expo 67. -
Do you mean rats, or doctors? (DrJ, AchtungDrFreudCalling...) Actually I meant moose, rat, human . . . notice I said at least . . . thinking about it there's also a muskrat, dogs, cats, a river rat (different species?--probably) and probably a whole managerie besides. We are truly an ark. I am the third rat person, I guess, though I see as well, but there's a bunch more doctors, some of whom might actually be doctors. --eric Okay, now I get it. I thought you meant "at least three representatives of this particular species."

Happy birthday! Sorry I couldn't make the party (was roughing it on train and bus trip to the sticks sans computer) -- but I love this place and all y'all!

Then God is a complete asshole. He sets up his plan so that Judas betrays Jesus, and then blames Judas for playing his part? Well to answer that question I would have to know how God judged Judas, and I don't know that. Jesus did say "forgive them for they know not what they do". I'm having a Bob Dylan moment here: "Through many a dark hour I been thinkin' 'bout this, How Jesus Christ was Betrayed by a kiss. But I can't think for you, You have to decide Whether Judas Iscariot had God on his side."

I'm twelve years older than you. I'm starting to think that owning a vehicle might be kind of cool... As I said to my 20-year-old son the other day: "I'm 51 and I've never owned my own car!" He said "You're 51??!! I thought you were only 46!" Aww... guess maybe he's hoping flattery will inch the GPA up to the tipping point...

These are the charges that weren't dropped, and she was convicted of all of them: Also, apparently an SEC civil suit is still possible: But, as others have pointed out: (All these quotes are from AP online)

Plus a small piece of a BIG cake! With love from couw & maren...

First I wrote the polka ( ), then I got to work on the cake!!! Party on ("in the workers' united front" -- that's a Brecht-Eisler song I think! ) Johnny!

And Don Byron, Brian Blade, Mark Shim... The thing is, while Blue Note has these artists on their "roster" (i.e., back catalog) I'm afraid VERY LITTLE CAPITAL has been allocated to their projects... despite the Norah-generated cash infusion.

Congratulations! All those fruit trees -- that's really beautiful! Best of luck! (and thanks to Jim Sangrey for the mortgage advice -- I'm saving that to my hard drive, with your kind permission) -

That reminds me of the one about the mohel (guy who performs circumcisions)... A mohel was getting on in years, and made the decision to retire. He had saved and preserved all the foreskins he had circumcised in his 50 years on the job. His wife wanted to have them made into something special to memorialize her husband's life's work, so she brought them into the shop of a leather craftsman, who said "Yes, I can make something very nice out of these -- come back in a week to pick it up." The mohel's wife returned to the shop a week later, and the craftsman handed her a little gift box. Inside was a wallet. She said, "That's it? My husband's life's work is a wallet? It's lovely, but it's only a wallet!" The craftsman replied, "It may look like it's only a wallet, but if you rub it for a minute, it turns into a suitcase!"
