  1. Is that a Haiku?
  2. Just an observation that since Jazz Kat has joined the board he has averaged more post per day then JSngry. 22 a day versus Jim's meager 16!
  3. I separated my Blue Notes a while back but now they are back in the mix. For me I usually do creative filing to fit in my rather disconnected storage space. When I decided to kick rock / pop out of my main shelves, I was able to move Blue Note back in. In one way, it makes sense for me to keep Blue Notes separate, as its the only label I "collect" but I didn't like Blakey all over the place either. The solution is simple, multiple copies of disc so there can be a MOANIN' in with the other Art Blakeys as well as in the Blue Note section! Just double your CD budget and that should solve the problem

Easy big fella, next you'll be wondering why Najee and the one who's name must not be spoken weren't included.

...and JJ Johnson who took the trombone from a novelty to a legit bebop instrument. (Of we all know that it's back to novelty status )
  8. How did this thread get resurrected after 1 1/2 years?
  9. While typing out the answer I noticed Jim already replied. Just for the record, I was gonna say exactly what Jim said. Exactly!
  10. I have to second the rec for BLUE JOHN. I am always bringing this one up around here. That and Lou Donaldson's MIDNIGHT CREEPER which you might enjoy as well. It has George Benson on guitar playing Grant Green better than Green himself! (I always say that)

    Grant Green

Once again, Oh Great One, you have shined on us your great sun of enlightenment and my soul basks in its warmth as a beagle in a field of black-eyed Susans.

    Grant Green

Do you mean Larry Young' s INTO SOMETHIN' ? That is one of my favorites with Green. I just got STREET OF DREAMS which is with Larry young, Elvin Jones and Bobby Hutcherson and is quickly becoming one of my favorites as well. IDLE MOMENTS is a must. Anything with the "Holy Trinity of Greaze" (Green, John Patton on B3 and Ben Dixon on drums) is worth checking out as well.
  13. I think that's spelled SCHWANG. It's German I think.
  14. Maybe she meant your mellow tone and introspective solos pierced her SOUL!
  15. ...and a better speller!!
  16. $94 -28 (Black Saint, Crescent) ______ $66 I think I'll save the balance for later this summer, with 12 new RVGs between now and April, these orders, and a disc a month from yourmusic.com, I think I'll have plenty to listen to! Thanks for the help! (edited for some bad math!)
  17. What you need is one of them new fangled keyboards with a back space! Yours may already have one, take a look in the upper right hand corner, just a couple keys above the return key (note: don't be fooled, the return key may say ENTER instead)
  18. Speaking of Cooltrane, when is that spell check feature going to be active?
  19. .. also George Braith playing the stritch
  20. Not only smiled but laughed out loud when I heard my friend's organ trio's new disc and out of nowhere Laserbeam synth solo! :rsmile: I still smile everytime I hear it even though I know it's coming.
  21. I'm in!! Filled my queue with 12 or so. A lot of upgrades to SACD hybrids and K2s
  22. OK, me first Duke Pearson - Herbie Hancock's THE PRISONER recently got this disc and just realized last night that Duke Pearson produced it. Francis Wolff - Andrew Hill's GRASS ROOTS (a lot of competition from some great Lou Donaldson and John Patton dates including UNDERSTANDING)
  23. What are your favorite non- Alfred Lion Blue Notes? I alway consider Lion the ears of the true Blue Note sound, but playing with my database revealed that some really good Blue Notes weren't produced by Alfred Lion. In two parts: Favorite Duke Pearson production Favorite Francis Wolff production (I don't care about your favorite Mizell Bro. That's your problem)
  24. Al, have you upgraded to K2's or even SACD hybrids? That's what I'm considering.
