  3. No, Page, I definitely can get in. The email message said Someone has tried to log into your account on All About Jazz Forum with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes. I assume the block lasted only the 15 minutes, as the email stated. That's all I know about the email some people appear to have received. A second issue is that the admins report they are getting deluged with spammer signups and are blocking certain ISPs. If you're a member who's been blocked by error, the Admins say to contact Tenorman or Peter CS at http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showgroups.phpPlease contact either me and or Peter CS. Please don't contact other names on the list, it will only get sent to me and will delay your query l p, that's brilliant! What a great solution! There are far too many websites dedicated to the kind of music we purport to enjoy. With jazz being such a wildly popular art form, why would the world need yet another place where fans can congregate and learn about jazz from each other? Burn it down, plow it under, and sow the earth with salt.
  4. I got the email from AAJ last week. Someone asked about the IP address. The one I received, the IP address was 89.105.194.87. 7. What Starthrower said. I bought that set a couple of years ago, hf. Good move, man.
  8. I got to sit about three feet away from the bell of Myron's tenor sax when I saw Brian Blade's Fellowship Band a few years ago. Amazing player. Went right home and looked him up. Looking forward to getting very well acquainted with this one.
  9. 10. Benny Golson's Stand By from Lee Morgan's 1956 recording Indeed!. Golson could write some wonderful material.
  11. To all those who believe mankind has somehow outgrown this kind of vile nonsense, or is in some way "perfectable," bless your heart. That being said, for most Savannahns, Charleston is like our big sister up the road, and our thoughts and prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in Charleston.
  12. Scott, Gordon was by far my favorite announcer. I remember him interviewing Baron von Raschke, a supposed NAZI bad guy, who launched off on the "natural, innate superiority" of the German wrestler, the German soldier, the German this and that, whatever. Gordon cut him off, saying he'd heard about enough of that nonsense, and telling von Raschke he should just go off and read his Schopenhauer and Nietzsche.
  13. The American Dream was great! I went to the J&J Center north of Athens towards Commerce one evening to see a match between him and Abdullah the Butcher, who spoke "no known human tongue." To watch Dusty "interviewed" by the late, great Gordon Solie was always the high point of any wrestling show on television. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fukQr8bvByQ
  14. I really like Myron's playing with Brian Blade Fellowship. I believe I'll look into this one as well, once the ol' wallet recovers....
  15. These are all fantastic records -- especially Larry Willis' Steal Away. That one's desert-island music for me. And the others look good too. I just haven't heard 'em. hf, after figuring out that your tastes - and Alypius' tastes as well, God rest his soul - were so simpatico w/ my own, I made up buy lists from old postings on AAJ Forum where you and Alypius had recommended various albums. Every one of those you mention above came off my hutchfan buy list, and, as usual and so far, they are delicious to the ear. I've rarely been disappointed with the stuff you guys recommend.

  17. Kamasi Washington - Leroy and Lanisha from The Epic (2015).
  18. The cut Chillin' from the new Rudresh Mahanthappa release Bird Calls. Ultra high energy call and response. http://soundcloud.com/bk-music-pr/chillin-rudresh-mahanthappa Wonderful album
  19. I second Steve Reynolds' suggestion of the Grant Green recording, which can be found on The Complete Quartets with Sonny Clark album. This is available on YouTube. Another favorite version is Mal Waldron's on his Left Alone album, but then I'm kind of a Mal whore; Mal wrings the mother out, and Julian Euell walks (make that) runs his bass off.
  20. There's a Soundcloud cut of Chillin' from Rudresh Mahathappa's new album Bird Calls on Dave Sumner's Bird is the Worm. That cut is silly good.
  21. Puzzling response to your initial question, Russell. I pay zero attention to the Grammys, but was curious enough to follow the link to see what was nominated, expecting - from the comments - to see nothing but Tony Bennett/Lady GaGa vehicles and the like. What I saw instead were several quite interesting albums that I enjoy. I haven't heard the other three under jazz instrumental albums, but I'm having a tough time figuring out what's not to like about Landmarks by Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band or Bobby Hutcherson's Enjoy The View. I don't have the Gordon Goodwin or the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra recordings from 2014, but I have several by both groups from previous years and they are solid big band recordings with excellent playing and arrangements. I can think of other big bands I enjoy more than those guys, but I wouldn't think those recordings suck so badly as to warrant complete dismissal. The Offense Of The Drum by Arturo O'Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra is a solid album that - as a special cast iron three star plunger feature - has a fine vocal version of Eric Satie's Gnossienne No. 3.

  23. Soukous! The great Pepe Kalle and his band Empire Bakuba. I'm not normally a fan of "Best of" albums, but this one rocks. I've picked up several Pepe Kalle and Empire Bakuba albums, but you can't go wrong with this one. Crazy good.
  24. Scott, from 2014 I've been enjoying The War on Drugs album Lost in the Dream, but then again I'm an alt country whore.
