  1. That qualifies as a "Good Find" Yeah, I thought so, too. It was the only "good find" of the day, but one is certainly better than none. The vinyl is in excellent shape and doesn't sound half bad, either. The sleeve, however, is horrid...multiple stains, seam split completely at the top. This doesn't matter so much to me as long as the record sounds good, but it does make me wonder: How can a record survive in such great shape while the sleeve looks as though it has survived a series of natural disasters?! If the job of the sleeve is to protect the record within, well...this one certainly did its job!
  2. Email sent. Hope I'm not too late!
  3. Vinyl: Gerry Mulligan - 'The Concert Jazz Band' Leonard Cohen - 'Songs From a Room' Jawbox - 'Grippe' Twenty Miles - 's/t' Papa M - 'Hole of Burning Alms' The Sultans - 's/t' CD: 'Doughboys, Playboys, and Cowboys' (Proper Box) Awesome box set of Western Swing!
  4. Gerry Mulligan - 'The Concert Jazz Band' (Verve MG V-8388) Picked up today for $5!
  5. Found Liberty pressings of Lee Morgan's 'The Gigolo' and Donald Byrd's 'Free Form' recently for $6 each. Both look and play NM. Very happy with these...especially 'The Gigolo', which I had never heard before. Fantastic record!
  6. Have an unopened copy of the Blue Mitchell Mosaic for sale. $85. Price includes Priority mail w/ insurance. Money orders and checks (will hold until cleared) okay, PayPal preferred. Will put up on EBay in a week or so if there's no interest. Michael C.
  7. Any fine print? What was original label? Original label was New Jazz. No fine print anywhere that I can see that would shed any light on who reissued these. It's a mystery... I'm enjoying them nonetheless!
  8. Just received reissues of Walt Dickerson's 'This Is Walt Dickerson!' and 'To My Queen'. After having listened to 'This Is...', I can report that it sounds surprisingly good. No idea who did these reissues, as they are not OJC's. Any ideas? (Picked these up from Dusy Groove for $8.99 each.)
  9. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up, wolff. The worst thing about it, though, are the drums...sounding as they though they were recorded in another room...with the door closed. I'm not that big a stickler for sound quality, either. This one just really jumped out at me. I mean, it's listenable...but... And it's such good music! That's why it's such a disappointment...
  10. I recently received, after much anticipation, the vinyl reissue of Booker Little's self-titled album on Time Records. Although the music on this album is amazing, the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. Can anyone compare this one to the original vinyl? Or even the CD reissue?
  11. Thanks for sharing. October 19th, huh? CAN'T WAIT!
  12. Vinyl spun today: Eric Dolphy - 'Outward Bound' Charles Mingus - 'Town Hall Concert' Thad Jones / Pepper Adams Quintet - 'Mean What You Say' Sonny Stitt - 'Sax Expressions'
  13. I ordered my first Classic Records reissues yesterday from AcousticSounds. Picked up Kenny Drew's 'Undercurrent' (on sale for $20!) and Tina Brooks' 'Back To The Tracks'. Wanted to pick up a few more, but had to resist the urge... I'm looking forward to hearing these. I think my next ones will be the 3 Mobley's...
  14. Thanks for the info, wolff. Hmmm.... I just may have to break down and pre-order a copy of the upcoming 45RPM version of 'Soul Station'!
  15. Regarding the 45RPM editions... Can you explain the significance of the speed? Does the sound quality of the recording increase with the RPMs? I'm not familiar with this...
  16. Agreed. I would love to have a package combining all the Five Spot material...in the proper sequence...possibly even with additional material, if any exists. Does anyone know if there is any additional Five Spot material that has yet to be released? Doubtful, but...
  17. Guess what showed up in the mail today... Haven't opened it yet, but the packaging looks very well done. Will check it out tonight and get back with more info.
  18. Was just browsing the Fantasy site and noticed that 'Live at the Five Spot Vol. 1' is finally slated for a remaster as a 20 bit K2 on July 20. I know a lot of people have been wanting these recordings to be remastered for some time. Maybe the other two volumes will be soon to follow...? This is timeless music. I only wish there were more recordings by this group!
  19. Eric Dolphy, indeed. Hearing him on Coltrane's Village Vanguard recordings was my introduction to the instrument (as well as Dolphy himself). I love the sound he gets out of that thing... Nothing else quite like it. Have you heard his solo rendition of "God Bless The Child"? Stunning...
  20. Just wanted to chime in here and say that I picked up both of these sets last week and they've since been in constant rotation. Wonderful stuff... Very glad to have them!
  21. Ornette Coleman - 'The Complete Science Fiction Sessions' (2CD) for about $12.
