WD45, Try again. I just cancelled my subscription and rejoined, using the link provided previously in this discussion, and am now getting the 4.99 deal. Unbelievable. Ordered the Dylan SACD box and the 'Seven Steps to Heaven' box for $114.77. I have placed two prior orders with YourMusic.com with no problems whatsoever. If they can manage to ship these boxes at this price, I'll be floored...

I know there's a few fans of this band on here... They'll be on Letterman tomorrow night. I'll be watching!

Tristano/Konitz/Marsh. Stunningly beautiful music... -
Northern Exposure - The Complete Second Season (wooohooo! Love this show!) Star Wars Trilogy Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - Deluxe Edition (I still have barely scratched the surface of the other two Deluxe Editions!)

While you're checking out all those cut-out Blue Notes...you might also do a search for the Jazz In Paris series, many of which have been reduced as low as $4.99! I grabbed quite a few of 'em myself...

Any opinions on the two Lee Morgan OJC's?

As is D. Gordon's 'Doin' Alright' D'oh! D'oh!

I've been very happy with my Jolida JD-100A tube CD player. Worthy of consideration, atleast. They're about $900 new, in the area of $600 used.

Well, that figures... I just ordered all of those last week, minus the Moody. Oh, well... I still got a good deal on 'em by ordering through the Universal Music Store on EBay. You should also pick up the Stitt and the Kirk (if you don't have this one in its previous incarnation...) - good, good stuff!

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
street singer replied to John B's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Cool. Looking forward to hearing those extra tracks. This is my favorite Pavement album by far... Thanks for sharing the news! -
So which version of these albums is generally regarded as "the one" to get? Is it the Fuel version, as previously stated?

Took advantage of a "20% Off" sale at Half-Price Books today and picked up the following LP's: Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - 'Away We A-Go-Go' (Motown) - $4.78 Aretha Franklin - 'Soul Sister' (Columbia) - $4.80 Aretha Franklin - 'Soul '69' (Atlantic) - $3.20 Aretha Franklin - 'Aretha In Paris' (Atlantic) - $3.98 John Lennon/Yoko Ono - 'Double Fantasy' (Geffen) - $3.20 Doors - 'L.A. Woman' (Elektra) - $7.20 ***This record has the coolest cover - the picture of the band is printed on clear plastic, allowing the yellow inner sleeve to show through the cover) *** Mike Oldfield - 'Tubular Bells' (Virgin) - $1.58 *** I just couldn't pass this one up... Iron Butterfly - 'Live' (Atco) - $4.00 Stray Cats - 'Built For Speed' (EMI) - $3.18 Charley Pride - 'Country Charley Pride' (RCA) - $2.38 George Jones - 'My Favorites of Hank Williams' (Universal) - $2.38 No jazz, unfortunately, but some good stuff nonetheless... Also picked up a couple of books: 'The Colossus of Maroussi' (Henry Miller) - $0.46 'Open Sky' (Eric Nisenson - Biography of Sonny Rollins) - $3.98

Anyone participating in this discussion like Wayne Hancock? Just saw him again last night...and was, again, absolutely floored. Incredible...

Quality vinyl brings a smile to my face
street singer replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Don't have much to offer in the way of great jazz records, as I've only recently begun my journey into the world of vinyl. What price would you be willing to part with the set for? PM me if interested... -

$40 for that box?! Wow... That's a helluva bargain! Any idea where I might find this for a decent price these days? Music Direct has it for $99. Think I can get it cheaper? I don't expect to find it for $40, but... -
I can already tell this thread is gonna make the ever-widening hole in my pocketbook even larger... Where's the best place to buy these Bear Family sets, Clem?

Great list there, J.A.W. That should get you started, Matthew! No shame in listening to good ol' C&W. The new stuff you hear on the radio...that's something else entirely. Hank Williams is definitely the place to begin, IMO. From there, you can pretty much go with anything on J.A.W.'s list. I can personally recommend anything by Ernest Tubb (as you already know!), Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, Bob Wills, Merle Haggard (there's a great 5-disc box on Capitol called 'Down Every Road')... Also, in regards to Proper - there's a box called 'Doughboys, Playboys and Cowboys: The Golden Years Of Western Swing' that's a great introduction to that music (especially for $20!). Enjoy!

Thought some of you may be interested... Tower Records are currently having a "25% Off All Blue Note" sale. I think it lasts until later this month. A good opportunity to pick up some of those usually pricey Connoisseur discs at a decent price. Picked up a few myself...including a copy of the 'The Lost Sessions' Connoisseur! Yes, they actually had it...it was delivered to my doorstep yesterday...I couldn't believe it. It was listed as "Out Of Print", but since they were still showing it in their inventory, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm glad I did since there's some good stuff on this one - presently enjoying the Tadd Dameron session. It's odd, though...the disc appears to have been opened and repackaged, because there's quite a few light scratches on the jewel case. No matter, though...just glad to have it. (I've since checked and this is now listed as no longer being available for purchase.)
-
Well, you could always wait until they're released. I believe that CDUniverse honors the pre-release price for up to a week after an item's release. Correct?
-
Thanks for the responses, guys. Looking forward to hearing this one! (And Mike, that's a great website that you've put together!)

I just ordered this one from Daedalus Books. Since it was only $6.98, I figured what the heck...especially with the lineup: Duke Pearson, piano & celeste. Harold Vick, saxophone. James Spaulding, flute & alto saxophone. Johnny Coles, trumpet. I'm unable to find any information on this album. Do any of you have it? If so, what's the verdict? or ? Or just ? Also, who's on bass and drums? They're not listed in the description. Thanks!

When's the last time you checked for viruses or scanned for adware/spyware? That's the first thing I would do...
