  1. I was motivated by this thread to check out the Concord site for some of the increasingly hard-to-find titles...and I'm glad I did! Here's what I just ordered: Don Patterson - Dem New York Blues Lem Winchester - Another Opus Lem Winchester - Winchester Special Teddy Charles - Evolution Art Farmer/Donald Byrd - Three Trumpets Johnny Griffin - The Kerry Dancers Jackie McLean - Alto Madness Jackie McLean - Jackie's Pal Dizzy Reece - Asia Minor Don Wilkerson - The Texas Twister It hadn't even occurred to me to check the Concord site for some of these titles. These are all listed as being "in stock" - hopefully they'll actually have some of them. I'll report back once I receive the order to let you guys know what arrived... Much appreciation to Claude and Bertrand for bringing this to my (and everyone else's) attention!
  2. Looks like another Blue Note 45RPM series just announced... This one by Analogue Productions. Analogue Productions Blue Note 45 RPM's
  3. Several of the Euphoria (the Sundazed jazz imprint) LP's are currently marked down to $8.99 (normally priced at $18.98). I've never heard these, but have heard good things about them. Go here... and look under the "Many Titles On Sale!!" header.
  4. Hmmm... Whatever happened to the 20+ Impulse titles Classic Records were supposed to be reissuing starting last Fall? Haven't seen or heard a thing about 'em since the initial announcement...
  5. Acoustic Sounds appears to still have the Miles 63-64 set in stock... Acoustic Sounds Link
  6. Well... After recently picking up the Analogue Productions 45RPM version of Sonny Rollins' 'Way Out West', I can say that that record, without a doubt, is one of the most amazing recordings I have in my collection. The drums on that record have an "in the room" presence like nothing I've ever heard. Unreal... I passed on these 45RPMs for a long time, refusing to pay their hefty price. After picking up a couple recently, however, I regret missing some of the earlier ones that are now OOP (and fetching crazy prices on EBay, as to be expected) and am now trying to figure out how I can get as many as possible. Don't wait on these... They're phenomenal.
  7. Last Night: LP 1 and 2 of the Miles 'IASW' Mosaic and Gene Ammons 'Boss Tenor' (Analogue Productions 45RPM). (Those AP 45's are stunning... I wish I could afford 'em all!) Today: The rest of the 'IASW' Mosaic.
  8. Just got all 3 of these sets in today... WHEW!!! Mosaic overload... I'm spinning the Max Roach now...disc 2. Loving the music. The mastering does seem a tad bright (as I've read on here before), but it's not to the point where it's distracting. As for the Miles sets... They are things of beauty. Absolutely. I held off on buying these for a loooooong time... Having had the CD sets for a few years, I thought that I would be content with those. However - after seeing the LP sets on the Running Low list, I couldn't resist. Had to get them... I'm so glad I did! If you've got a decent turntable, you owe it to yourself to pick these up before they're all gone. (Consider that a gentle shove, Trane Fanatic!)
  9. Turntable: Music Hall MMF-7 w/ Goldring Eroica cartridge Phono Pre: Creek OBH-SE CD Player: Jolida JD-100 Amp: Eastern Electric M-520 Integrated Speakers: Decware RL-1.5's Have been running this setup for about the past 2 years. Am fairly happy with it... Would like to try some other speakers - the Decware speakers don't do all that well with rock music (but sound INCREDIBLE with jazz - which is why I find it so hard to part with them!). Am interested in hearing the Zu Druids, Omega Hemptones and Devore Gibbon Super 8's, specifically. Also have a Squeezebox SB3 which I have yet to set up - will probably send that into Bolder Cable for some mods and convert all my CDs to lossless digital on several hard drives. Would like to upgrade the phono preamp in the near future and, at some point, (probably within the next 3-4 years) upgrade the turntable. The fact that I will have to put down quite a bit of $$$ in order to improve on the sound I'm getting from the Music Hall has kept me from doing that so far... Plus, I can't decide on which table I want to upgrade to. VPI? Teres? Nottingham? Michell? There are soooo many good turntables being made these days... But, for now - the music's playing and I'm happy...
  10. Up for some air due to the soon-to-be-OOP nature of this set...
  11. Just a quick heads up... This album (in the form of OJC vinyl) is currently available from True Blue for $5.98... Waiting on my copy to arrive.
  12. Didn't see mention of this one...maybe I missed it... There's another CD in the Jazz in Paris series that features the pairing of Bennett and Thomas: Lou Bennett's 'Pentecostal Feeling'. Just received it the other day - haven't had a chance to listen yet...
  13. Pre-ordered the vinyl from Insound. Can't wait for it to get here... I was introduced to Elliott's music with the s/t album...so, that period of his music if by far my favorite.
  14. In case any of you missed it (like I almost did)... Got an email from True Blue a week or so ago - didn't notice it until tonight... 18 OJC LP's on sale for $5.98. Great deal on some good sounding records. I picked up a few of 'em for myself...just couldn't pass it up. Here's a link...
  15. New arrivals at the ol' Dusty Groove... In This World Lost Tapes I'd grab 'em both if they weren't so pricey. Anyone heard these? I really dig that live Wooden Glass album...
  16. Just a reminder... Dusty Groove still has many of these discs on sale for $4.99. I broke down and bought another 20 of 'em yesterday... Nobody was lookin'.
  17. I received two of these CDs today: George Braith - 'Laughing Soul' and Latin Jazz Quintet: 'Latin Soul'. Based on initial listening, I can totally recommend them to anyone interested in this music. The 'Latin Soul' album I have been trying to track down for some time now; the 'Laughing Soul' album I had never heard of. Both are great sessions. The sound quality on both of these is excellent as well. 'Laughing Soul' is a 20bit K2, mastered by Hiroshi Kawasaki. I am unable to locate any mastering information for 'Latin Soul' - it does, however, have a copyright date of 1993. So, probably not 20 bit, yet - still sounds great. I'll be picking up a few more of these, I think...
  18. Lee Fields - 'Problems' (SoulFire)
  19. Yeah, I agree. I've recently been on somewhat of a funk binge after picking up the 'What It Is' box and reading through this post. I've picked up a slew of Daptone/Soul Fire/Truth & Soul singles - pretty much every one that's currently available...and, I gotta say - you can't go wrong with anything by Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings! Also, El Michels Affair and Budos Band - tremendous stuff... Snatch up anything you can find by those guys.
  20. They appear to be on the Harmless (UK) label. Here's a link to Dusty Groove for more info....
  21. I checked into their website today and it appears I'm still getting them at $5.99. Have they made the switch yet? If not, when?
  22. I use the Onzow Zerodust as well. Got mine for $30 from some guy on Audiogon - same one as Parkertown, I'm sure. I've had mine for about a year now and have been very happy with it. Seems to do very good job.
  23. I organize all my discs alphabetically by artist (last name first, ofcourse). For a disc such as 'Olio', with no clear leader... That would go under 'V' for 'Various Artists'. I've found it to be the easiest solution.
