  1. Ha! Well...you've certainly picked a good time to get back into vinyl! Enjoy the tunes.
  2. Cisco reissue. Haven't spun this one in a while. Such a good album that I should really spin more often. And this Cisco reissue sounds great, despite the drums sounding somewhat "boxy", or...something. Really hate that Cisco aren't around anymore. They did good work.
  3. Oh, hell yeah! Joe Chambers, man... Damn!!! Will revisit this one. It's been a while.
  4. Also, this... It seems to be increasingly difficult to find. Here's to hoping J&R actually have it in stock, as they say they do... We'll see!
  5. Just got mine. Added the funds to my Amazon account without any problems. Not sure what I'll spend it on yet...
  6. Thanks for sharing. This stuff is remarkable...
  7. King Records R&B box set
  8. Just received a shipping notice for the Weston, Pearson and Amy sets...whew!...and subsequently ordered the Patton. Will certainly be revising my Mosaic "buying strategy" (waiting for sets to hit Running Low/Last Chance) after this unfortunate set of circumstances...
  9. Great idea for a thread. Here's my contribution... Booker T and the MG's - 'Time Is Tight' 3CD Box for $13.99
  10. Yeah... I failed, too. Oh well. I tried, right? It's a gorgeous box set. Sturdy packaging with large, 12x12 book with lots of great, color photos. As much as I love my Mosaic sets, after seeing how well this set was put together makes me wish Mosaic would take it up a notch when it comes to their packaging. Like Lon said earlier in this thread - it's kind of nice to have the sessions on individual discs. I had reservations about this before ordering due to the short time limits on some of the discs. It actually works out nicely, though... Highly recommended to fans of Chet.
  11. I'm still working my way through the Hodges set. About halfway through it at this point, enjoying every minute of it. I'm trying to savor it a bit by enjoying it one session at a time...one disc every couple of days. Don't sleep on this set - if you don't have it, get it now! After this set I'll dive into the Venuti/Lang set. Have sampled some of the tracks from the first disc and am really looking forward to it...
  12. The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions 1956-61 ---- arrived today!
  13. Can't help but wonder how the Classic Records vinyl reissue stacks up to these in comparison... Any insight, anyone?
  14. Placed an order with TrueBlue this afternoon for the following: Some Speakers Corner and Pure Pleasure vinyl reissues, before the price increase... Booker Ervin - 'That's It!' (Candid) Steve Lacy - 'The Straight Horn of...' (Candid) Charles Mingus - 'Charles Mingus Presents...' (Candid) Gerry Mulligan Meets Ben Webster (Verve) Ben Webster - Soulville (Verve) Some German-pressed VSOP/Mode reissues - don't know anything about these, but the price was right... Frank Rosolino Quintet Richie Kamuka Quartet Stan Levey Quintet ...and finally, this hard-to-find CD... Clarke-Boland Big Band - 'Now Hear Our Meanin'
  15. I bet this will be going for double its original cost on the second-hand market within the next few months...
  16. Just stumped upon this one today while looking over the True Blue site... Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band - 'Now Hear Our Meanin' Seems this one is a tough one to find these days... Yes, ofcourse -- I picked up one for myself.
  17. Just a heads up to those who don't know... The price on the Speakers Corner and Pure Pleasure reissues have recently gone up by $5 ($10 for double LPs) here in the States. Several of these can still be found for the old price ($30) at True Blue -- while all the other retailers that I know of (Acoustic Sounds, Music Direct, et al) have increased their prices. Speaking of True Blue - I placed an order for a few of these today and noticed that two of them (Booker Ervin - 'That's It!' and Steve Lacy's 'The Straight Horn of...') are on sale for $25.98. That's $10 cheaper than anywhere else...
  18. It ended at $1,585. Makes my latest purchases from Dusty of Japanese Tempo Tubby Hayes and Japanese Yusef Lateef 'Before Dawn' at $39 each feel like an absolute bargain. Hey sidewinder - don't mean to derail the thread for too long, but...since you mentioned that Japanese Tempo Tubby Hayes reissue - have you listened to it yet? I picked that one up from Dusty Groove as well...played it today, and...man, that thing sounds awful. I don't know if it's due to the quality of the source that was used or what, but -- eek. Give it a listen and let me know what ya think...
  19. Me too - just called Mosaic this morning. I haven't gotten an email from them yet indicating it's been moved to Running Low/Last Chance, but it seems like everyone that's put off getting this one is jumping on it quickly now. It's currently in the 'Running Low' section - hence the recent rush on it.
  20. Johnny Hodges and Lang/Venuti Mosaics.
  21. I just sent off an email to our friends at Mosaic requesting that a copy of the Venuti/Lang be added to my order. After listening to the sound samples, I was too intrigued to let this one pass me by. If the Prima/Manone is still available next month, I'll probably pick it up at that time... The Hodges, though, was an absolute, unquestionable, without-a-doubt MUST BUY.
  22. Thanks for the heads-up on this. I ordered the Hodges -- the only one of the three CD sets in the Running Low/Last Chance that I absolutely don't want to miss out on. I've been putting that one off for long enough... Can't wait to finally hear it!
  23. Good for you, man... Take care of that woman - she sounds like a good one!
