  1. It was definitely written by Cat Stevens. She was his recent ex-girlfriend in 1969-70 when he wrote it for his first album after his bout with TB (Mona Bone Jakon). The AMG cites Shorter as the writer for the same song on Bub Roberts all acoustic "Tribute to Cat Stevens." Unless they mean that Shorter did some sort of rearrangement of the song, they must be in error; it is all Cat. Jeff
  2. Hi Folks, I am a hugh Cat Stevens fan. Other than Jazz his is the only stuff I play repeatedly. I will be going to London soon to check out the Jazz CD shops and bookshops. But my main goal is to check out Cat's hometown and things associated with him. I think Soho and Shaftesbury Ave. are the places to start. Any suggestions about his father's restaurant (Moulin Rouge, but I think it's called Alfredsons or something now). He also has other connections to the area (where or what is "Tin Pan Alley," Island Records, Hammersmith College where he went for art, the hospital where he recovered from TB, the Catholic school he initially attended, theatres he hung around as a kid, the Islamia School that he started as Yusuf Islam and the hotel that he used to run?). I also was seeking some bookstore recomendations because there a but a few biographies on him and none in the States so I thought maybe the used shops in London might have something (George Brown's, Charlesworth, and Evans are the three authors that come to mind). Thanks again for your info and any forthcoming on the Cat! Regards, Jeff
  3. Hey Guys, thanks so much for getting back to me on your recomendations. I was away for a couple days and was pleased to take in your info. I noticed a lot of stuff in Soho. That is my first beeline when I get there. Some people are into Beatlemania, but I am into Catmania; I am a hugh Cat Stevens fan. Other than Jazz his is the only stuff I play repeatedly. Any suggestions about his father's restaruant (Moulin Rouge, but I think it's called Alfredsons or something now). 4. Hi Folks, I am a new poster (been reading everyone elses posts for years). Now I ask anyone's help. I am going to London for a vacation in early March. Please give me any helpful information about Jazz clubs to visit and good jazz cd shops and book shops. I only have five days and would rather hit the ground running with ideas in hand from you guys than just doing a scatter-shot approach. I'ld appreciate any help. Regards, Jeff
  5. Here are some hidden gems not mentioned yet, Presenting Red Mitchell Johnny Lytle: Nice and Easy Sam Jones: Soul Society Wilbur Ware: The Chicago Sound Doug Watkins: Soulnik Curtis Fuller with the Red Garland Trio Harry Sweets Edison: Edison's Lights Eddie Lockjaw Davis': Cookbooks Volumes 1-3 Yusuf Lateef: Eastern Sounds (Plum Blossom ripped off by Cat Stevens for his first hit "I Love My Dog!") Fantasy has a catalog you can order for free off their website or the little card perforated and attached to the liner notes of any recent reissue. Then, reference the All Music Guide online at http//:www.allmusic.com I trusted a lot of their suggestions when I started out and now trust mostly Scott Yanow and his opinions. I have over 500 of these reissues and besides the blue notes are the only ones I listen to. Best of luck and any one out there looking to trade let me know. I like hard bop, soul jazz and the 50-60's blue note sound (and Prestige jam sessions) looking to trade Keith Jarrett, Charlie Haden, Lester Young, Dizzy, James Carter, Joshua Redman, Gene Harris numerous others. Send a want list and I will send mine. Talk to you all later and Bright Moments! dr.33
