Domestic USA Blue Note RVG series CDs. 24-bit remaster. A great way to expand your jazz collection at cheap prices. CDs are EX to M- condition unless otherwise noted. Most were purchased new and not played much. Ask if you'd like more detailed ratings for certain titles. No cutouts or promos. Some are BMG versions. The price in brackets [ ] is the lowest price I found on Amazon this evening, rounded up or down to the nearest dollar. My price is in BOLD. I'm trying to be a buck or two less expensive than Amazon, plus my shipping charges are lower: Shipping: $2 per CD $1 for each additional. Multiple CD orders will have shipping charged after the package ships and will reflect my actual cost. Minimum overseas order: 5 CDs. PLEASE POST HERE FIRST, THEN SEND ME A PM. Still available.. Jackie McLean Right Now! Wow. Is it a sign of the times that it is now a selling point that your Japan import Blue Note CD is NOT a mini-lp? Hey, some of those sonic 'masterpieces' command big bucks these days!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/CLIFFORD-JORDAN-CLIFF-...id=p3286.c0.m14 I understand that the remasters from the early 2000s were used, the ones that were done for the TOCJ-6XXX series that came out in those years. They were called "TOCJ24s" on this forum. (edit) Just found this post on the Hoffman forum. This gentleman from Japan wasn't very pleased when he learned whose masterings were used. Well that seems to settle it. No big surprise.

Soooo....has anyone out there heard any of these TOCJ-8XXX CDs? They've been on the street for a few weeks now. Has anyone learned what remaster was used or if they are new remasters?

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorak_(slang) Ah, I see, thanks. I recognized the word "anorak" having spent countless hours in one on my Alaska river rafting trips, but I was not hip to this new variant. My wife would say I fit the bill regarding my CD collecting... -

anorakism...define please! (Anachronism?) I actually hang on the SH forum a fair amount these days. The jokes you guys are making about it are right on. Who the fuck cares which cut was the weakest on the Monkees' second album? (I say that as a guy who admits to listening to that particular recording a lot as a 10 year old.) And fer chrissake, how many times do we need to listen to Dark Side of The Moon? And, yeah OK the Beatles were great and all that, but isn't the 24/7 discussion of potential remasters an indication that maybe you have too much time on your hands? Can you say "trust fund'? And $80 for a "Target" CD? No thanks I think I'll go buy 10 used jazz CDs from artists I have yet to hear instead. It does get to be pretty hilarious over there, and pretty often... Having said that, as a person trying to sell off a large collection of jazz CDs, the SH forum is much better place to try and do it. I don't know where you folks buy your music, or perhaps you already have all you need but my offerings here just seem to sit for the most part. I'm not even bothering to list them here, mostly. But for discussion and a knowledge base of all things jazz that is second to none on the web, I always return here. I hope this forum continues to thrive. -
These are the Camden reissues from the UK. In mint condition. $8 each or both for $15. Shipping $2 per CD $3 for both in the continental US. Shipping to other areas at my cost. Found an informative review of this material online: "These unassuming bargain packages offer a wealth of rare and important recordings from the 1960s and ‘70s by one of the greatest of South African musicians. Pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim, who originally recorded under the name Dollar Brand....The first four tracks on “African Sun” comprise two thirds of a classic LP from 1971, originally released under the title “Dollar Brand + 3 with Kippie Moeketsi” (Gallo-Soultown KPS113). Alto sax player Moeketsi was an important figure in the development of South African jazz, playing a key role in revitalising the music, by drawing together the threads that link American bebop with the African tradition. A long period of inactivity (which immediately preceded this recording) and his death at a comparatively young age, mean that any of his recordings are especially valuable, and the sheer raw intensity of his playing on these recordings shows just why he was so highly respected by his peers. Ibrahim himself, as ever, displays his characteristic combination of brilliance, passion and composure, playing wonderfully. This is powerful, vital music of the highest order - it’s certainly jazz, but at the same time it is deeply and unequivocally African. The CD also includes a lovely solo piano track “Gwidza” from 1974, and a further five from later in the decade with various bands, including musicians of the calibre of Basil Coetzee, Barney Rachabane and Sipho Gumede. Every track is outstanding, but special mention for “African Herbs”, with Ibrahim double-tracked on piano and keyboards, and Coetzee’s beautiful tenor sax. Across the various discs in the series, you can put several other rare LPs back together, jigsaw-fashion, while some incorporate them wholesale. For example “Voice of Africa” (Camden CDN1007) offers the whole of the great 1974 album “Mannenberg" (The Sun SRK786134) - frequently described as “legendary”.
