  1. It seems this must have been asked at some point- can someone direct me to a complete list of all domestic RVGs released to date?
  2. Thanks for the list. I have "Taru" the Bennie Green and the Spanish Blue Note of "Poppin" also. What does "Blue Trail" sound like? What is the story on that one?
  3. Can anyone provide a complete list of the Blue Note TOCJ 1600 series? I have Mobley's Curtain Call, Lee Morgan The Rajah and Herbie Nichols Trio Vol. 2 which are all very worthy sessions. I'm wondering what other obscurities in the 1600 series I am missing out on.
  4. I use Mozilla and get the $5.99 rate too. Would appreciate a tip for a work around to get the $4.99 rate. I am unclear on what "stripping it" means, and I do not have Netscape installed.

    Dylan SACDs

They seem to have changed this link back to the $5.99 deal, unless I am missing something...
  6. Thanks for the info folks. I will fill out my initial order with something other than CCR titles.
  7. I'm thinking of rejoining the BMG club. I'm looking at the Creedence catalog. When BMG lists them as "remastered" does this mean the latest SACD hybrids? Given that they have the Bill Evans SACD listed as such (and not available as a free selection to new members) I am suspicious that the CCR titles are not the SACDs but earlier remasterings. Does anyone know for sure?
  8. Has anyone compared the sound on the US RVG 2CD set with that of the TOCJ 66123~66124 set?
  9. Sent PM RE the Shaw.
  10. OK, OK, I just sent Peter a PM.
  11. I am also interested in how the JRVG and new Conn of Easterly Winds compare. What's the verdict?
  12. That Nichols is great and not real common. Some one should grab it at that price.
  13. 50% off no shipping: G4OD1 Good through Thursday, July 29th. I haven't scrolled through this thread to see how much better BMG deals get, I know they sometimes do 60% off no shipping, but this isn't bad.
  14. I was afraid of that.
  15. Hey does anyone have one of these yet? What's the deal? How do they sound?
  16. John Coltrane "Lush Life" SACD hybrid Miles Davis "Relaxin" SACD hybrid Bill Evans "Portrait in Jazz" SACD hybrid BMG has these listed as single discs for $24.90. I was able to order them during the 70% off sale. Not sure if they are available as free selections for new members, but if so, they would be good choices. My current deal is "buy one get three free".
  17. I'm listening to this for the first time right now. It is great. I'm not a fan of avant garde or free jazz but I really like this one. AMG kind of scared me off with their description of this one as "fairly free". I'm certainly no expert, but I don't agree with that. To my ears this is about the right balance of hard bop structure with a bit more looseness and adventurousness thrown in. I can understand why jazz artists got tired of the confines of the hard bop format, but recordings that sound like everyone was playing a different song at the same time, or a bunch of electrocuted geese, just don't do it for me. Maybe someday I will understand that Sam Rivers/Ornette Coleman/later Coltrane/thing. That is the beauty of the jazz genre- I can keep expanding my horizons as my listening tastes become more "sophisticated". But for now McLean's "Right Now" is right where I want to be. I will be playing this one often.
  18. Thanks for the recommendations folks. I will check them out.
  19. I'm looking to upgrade from Neanderthal cassette players in both of our vehicles, and would appreciate recommendations. I hope to avoid getting a separate amplifier. I think there are models available with enough power from their internal amps for our needs- don't need to share bass notes with half the neighborhood. I like the Nakamichis because they have a good old fashioned round volume control, which I would really like to have so I don't get in a wreck when adjusting volume while driving. Pretty spendy though. I guess Alpine is where I'm looking now. Doesn't need to be latest model, but being unfinicky about CD-Rs is a must- I plan to burn from my home collection for car use. Any suggestions?
  20. HMV Japan, a big online music retailer. They will really soak you on shipping charges, making small orders kind of prohibitive unless you are desperate, but they have a large stock. Scroll down to the bottom left for a version their page in Engish, if it doesn't come up that way: HMV Japan
  21. Got an email that my Donald Byrd Half Note, originally ordered in early March with Free Form has shipped. The sound on Free Form is excellent, hope they did as nice of a job with Half Note.
  22. Chuck: It is good to hear your expert opinion Chuck. And I didn't take DrJ's review as a put-down, just an honest appraisal. One of the basic truths that emerges from this forum is that even though we are all jazz enthusiasts, the way various artists and sessions strike us varies quite a bit. I feel pretty confident that I will like the Jones- the references to Clifford Brown in the Mosaic propaganda, and the time period (early 1960's) are what sold me.
  23. Thanks for the feedback folks. I must admit that the Weston is the one that intrigues me the most. DTMX: It's too bad that people need to feel guilty about having a job these days, but it is decent of you to empathize with those less fortunate.
  24. Ed Swinnich: Point taken. I appreciate the ad-hoc firewall around the political forum too, and will avoid future posts that could potentially compromise this.
  25. More like another example of Son-of-a-Weizen zeroing in on a trivial (and obvious) mistatement instead of addressing the main point. We see examples of this all the time on the political thread.
