  1. That Herbie Nichols is great! ←
  2. PM sent RE Jubilee Shout
  3. My offer of $20 was not "low" it was only slightly lower than your asking price. Negotiation over price is a tried and true tradition in the informal marketplace here in America. Until I saw this post, I was about to send you a PN offering your asking price since it is, after all, only a difference of $2, and your response to my query was polite enough. But I find this public admonition of those of us who seek to bargain with you annoying. Good luck selling your CD. It won't be to me.
  4. Check this site out for a completely painless tutorial on downloading LAME and EAC, as well as a couple of other files that apparently are necessary to make them talk to each other. I am highly challenged with this stuff and I had EAC and LAME installed and working seamlessly in about 15 minutes. http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules.php...E&file=painless I've been lurking on this thread for awhile now, trying to do my homework before making multi-dimensional move into the digital music era in my truck and perhaps a personal music player. I want to buy a CD player for my 4runner, an iPod, start an MP3 library and make custom HIGH QUALITY burns to listen to in my truck. I downloaded iTunes awhile back, nice software for archiving, but I wanted to integrate the high quality rips and burns I read about here. I was, frankly, intimidated by the steps mentioned in this thread. Then I found out about some freeware that integrates LAME with iTunes for Macs. While searching to see if there was a Windows version of this (there isn't) I came upon the site listed above and decided to walk through it. Really nice to have a bunch of download and configuration steps work without a single problem, certainly a first for me. I have LAME set at 192 kps variable and "alt preset standard" (the default). I've only burned one song to test my setup so far, but even my tin ears can easily detect the improvement over my standard iTunes MP3s. I am STOKED.
  5. I understand that domestic RVGs are now the same remaster as the JRVG versions already released. At what point in the complete list of RVGs did this Blue Note policy change occur? In other words, going down the list, at what point can I assume that the RVG and JRVG versions will sound the same? I believe I recall it being discussed that even if the same remaster is used, the JRVG may still sound superior because of better quality control, but any such differences would likely be beyond the ability of my ears or my sound system to discern. Thanks in advance.
  6. I have something to put into circulation on this thread, but I don't want anything in return. Awhile back our house was broken into and electronic gear, including my CD player, were stolen. The CD in my player at the time was Horace Parlan "Arrival", a nice 1992 quintet date on Steeplechase with Idrees Sulieman, Bent Jaedig, Hugo Rasmussen and Ed Thigpen. I still have the case, but not the CD. Everything was insured, and I replaced this disc with another copy. So now I have an extra case and liner notes. Sooo, I can send a burn of the CD in an original case with liner notes to the first person who responds that they are interested. Again, I do not want to join the qeue because this is a CDR, but it seemed like a good place to get rid of the case and pass this music on.
  7. "Roots and Herbs"- not an RVG but a 24-bit remaster. Don't be put off by the cheesy cover art, well below usual BN standards for some reason. This is may favorite Blakey/JM session. There is also "Witch Doctor", also a 24-bit remaster.
  8. I recently picked up "Shades" from another board member- that's a good one too.
  9. Well it looks like I'm too late for "Farewell" but I PM'd you on "Eternal Spirit".
  10. If it were me I would probably wait for the remasters but if you can't wait, Here's "Letter From Home" for about $8 shipped: Half.com Letter...
  11. Thanks for the reply.
  12. I'm curious if this offering can be interpreted as an elliptical comment on the quality of the new True Blue RVG. Does it sound better than the JRVG? There hasn't been much comment on the new batch, other than the one that DIDN'T come out...
  13. Sent you a PM...
  14. Tjazz and others who monitor BMG closely- do you happen to keep lists of the Connoisseurs, Verve Elites, Verve Master Editions, Riverside/Prestige/OJC K2's that are available from them? I'm trying to optimize my order as I rejoin. While working my way through this thread and checking BMG I found that several of the Verve LPR added just last fall are already gone, e.g. Stitt "Personal Appearance". Thanks!
  15. Ah there it is, thanks Chalupa. No, the link does not work anymore as far as I can tell. If someone has a recipe for how to still join for $4.99 I am at attention. "Snooze ya lose"
  16. Chalupa- Please reply with a link to this title. I cannot get it to come up on the site- don't see it under box sets, under "Miles Davis" or "Miles Davis Quintet" or under a title search. Thanks. I sent yourmusic.com an email asking to sign up at the $4.99 rate- they declined to allow this, saying it was a "limited time offer". Maybe if I join and then ask? (Not holding my breath...)
  17. Thanks Pete B. I will look into that.
  18. I'm currently using Windows Media Player as my CD burning software and music file archiving. Are there any better options out there? I'm not looking to spend much $$. If MS Media Player is OK, does anyone have any tips for settings and such? E.g. is there any way to set the file type? I am pretty clueless on this topic, if that isn't already readily apparent...but I did do a rudimentary search ("CD burning software") before posting. Thanks in advance.
  19. As a long time Stones fan I can also attest to the fact that the SACD hybrid reissues (both the SACD and Redbook layers) are a HUGE upgrade from the crappy ABKCO reissues we had to live with for so long.
  20. Regarding the issue of "legitimacy" I have to agree with this post from the earlier thread: "I'm with Rooster here - EMI is making their money on the sales of these through the licensing agreement with Time-Life, so screw 'em. If they want to garner profits from US sales, then release 'em in the US. If Time Life felt they could market these successfully as some sort of club then why doesn't Blue Note or Mosaic do the same thing right here in the good old USA. Many on the board have been saying that for years.... I can tell you that if BN or Mosaic had the vision to create such a marketing plan then the sales would have been theirs - not Freshsounds."
  21. Thanks for the recommendations everyone. I will probably start with RVGs available through BMG when I re-join. They also have a "remastered" edition of "Organ Grinder Swing". Does anyone know if this is the Verve Master Edition?
  22. I just spun the JRVG of "Back at the Chicken Shack" and concluded that this is great greazy music and my all time favorite Jimmy Smith session. The only other session of his that I have is "Cool Blues". Doesn't this guy have quite a huge discography? What are his 5 best sessions? What should I pick up next?
  23. Yes thank you. The chronology is interesting to see and not offered on the BN website.
  24. Yes thank you Ron, that is the same link I found via Chucks pointer. Just what I need to make sure I am not paying huge $ for a JP reissue that is out on domestic RVG. I haven't been following the releases too closely lately.
  25. OK, that worked. Haven't been back to the ol' BN site in awhile, since the Great Meltdown..
