  1. The girl's credibility has taken a number of hits in a short period of time. She has been called a "known Denver Nuggets groupie"; it is reported she tried out for American Idol and upon failing attempted suicide via an OD on pills;and she has had the police to her house twice recently making accusations in which no charges were filed. Kobe's credibility has taken the hit that he committed adultery. Rapists do tend to fit a profile that does not match Kobe's, to reiterate Christiern's point.
  2. Give me some chicken sushi!
  3. The world has no shortage of people who get married but have no respect for what marriage is supposed to be all about. Professional atheletes are subjected to more opportunities to cheat on their wives than most, but it doesn't make them the only ones who commit this sort of crime nor is it an excuse to do so. I hope that if I am lucky enough to fall in love and get married that I can look my wife in the eyes and know she is telling me the truth and know that I am telling her the truth. Mutual trust, honor, respect...I intend to MEAN IT should I enter into such a sacred agreement. My parents have been married for over thirty years--what they have is priceless. I thought Kobe was more like myself in that respect. Very disappointing.
  4. I'll wait for a verdict, but I know my gut feeling agrees with Christiern and Soulstation1.
  5. Lakeshow has the rest of the league flinching. The floor will be spaced, and the big two will feast.
  6. You need more my friend. I picked up the OJC/Milestone disc Joe Henderson in Japan. The version of 'Round Midnight is sparkling. The last track Junk Blues is a burner as well. In 'n Out on BN is great too. Gotta love the duo of Kenny and Joe. Thanks for the suggestions, Templejazz. Joe is definitely high on my exceptionally long list of musicians I need more by. Downloaded The Kicker and Tetragon last night, they await my ears at home. I'm going to get the other available albums tonight after I burn these two.
  7. I reach for Thrust or Mwandishi first for electric Herbie, but I love Headhunters. The latter portion of "Chameleon", as I said on the other thread, has drumming that is incredible to these ears. "Vein Melter" pushes all the right buttons for me.

  9. I have it and like it just fine, though it isn't a favorite. "Terra Firma" is the stand-out track, IMO. I only have this and Mode For Joe as far as Joe Henderson-lead discs go. I reach for Mode For Joe first.
  10. When it first came out several reliable reviewers gave it an enthusiastic thumbs down. Apparently Beck's music is not structured well for this purpose. I like Beck's music, though he hasn't equalled Mellow Gold IMO.
  11. Things you won't hear Noj say: "Damned electric pianos. I hate them." "I can't stand that 1970s over-produced dreck." ...Kobe: "She asked for it." ...Rickey Henderson: "I'm too old for this shit."
  12. Sucks horribly. Sort of like making a live action Flintstones or Scooby Doo, it kills all the charm. Oh wait, those morons DID do that.
  13. I play basketball all the time, but was way too into skateboarding in school to bother with joining the team (that's my way of coping with getting cut from the freshman team and having guys I torched for years beat me onto the roster with effort alone. I missed practice all the time and was uncoachable...). I've practiced shooting the ball since I was a child but I haven't competed in a 5 on 5 setting in my life as much as the last couple of years. I'm a better player now than I ever was, but I was never too shabby. I have speed, good leaping ability, and pretty good fundamentals. I'm getting better at thinking the game and creating plays. I still skateboard occasionally at 27. I estimate I skateboarded every day it didn't rain for a stretch of about seven years from 11-18. It becomes something else once mastered, pretty cool to just ride around and pop ollies over obstacles, grind benches, charge hills...I'm not the most technical, but I do some mean wall rides and have pretty big pop. I also snowboard which is unbelievably fun. I invested in a Mammoth pass this year so I'm stoked and looking forward to hitting the slopes. Some say skateboarding/snowboarding aren't sports, so I guess hoops are my sport.
  14. A little good news for once. HUGE
  15. Among my favorites downloaded from this service: Ubiquity Various--tons of good funk 45s here. Spike's Choice Desco 45s--more good funk 45s Boogaloo Joe Jones Sweetback--the title track is too funky Lee Fields--FUNKY Syl Johnson Mike James Kirkland Cannonball Adderley Phenix & Pyramid, several others Sonny Criss--everything they offer is excellent Joe Pass--Virtuoso stuff Yusef Lateef Charles Earland Pat Martino I've downloaded grips of Fantasy stuff, lots of it good... Desmond Williams Delights Of The Garden--beyond the average album of hip hop beats The Dining Rooms Numero Deux--trip hop/Portisheadish stuff more recommendations, anyone?
  16. "Playin' A Game" will always be an all-time favorite of mine. Thanks Barry, RIP.
  17. I'll wait for a guilty verdict before I believe a word of it. Kobe is quoted in the LA Times as calling the charges "bogus." C'mon, do you really think Kobe has to even try to get laid? He's too classy and too intelligent, and I think the charges are BS.
  18. Clearly the cover created with the free Photoshop filter wins. HORRENDOUS. I actually passed on this great album a few times based on cover art alone:
  19. And now, the debut of MR. JOSHUA... :rsmile:
  20. What's up EBrew, welcome aboard. This page at AAJ might be perfect for your mom: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/library/index.html
  21. Noj, this site may explain why they didn't believe you. http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/agarman/bco/fact2.htm I'm sure you saw a large black cat, but you surely didn't see a black panther. Cool man, thanks for the clarification. I'll have to remember to call it a "dark-pigmented mountain lion" or something should I tell the story again in the future.
  22. A friend of mine named Peter had a pet Capuchin monkey from South America named Mickey. He was all brown, a very simple looking monkey. Noisy, funny facial expressions and a prehensile tail if I recall. One day I was over at Peter's house hanging out in the backyard and he decided to take Mickey out of the cage. In an instant, the monkey kicked off his chest and made a bee-line for me, latching onto my leg and biting me. There was a split second where I could have kicked Mickey, but I was worried I would hurt or kill the exotic pet so I made a lackluster attempt to keep him off of me and failed. It took twenty stitches or so to close the wound just below my knee. To this day I wish I would have kicked Mickey like a soccer ball. I used to have a black and white alley cat named Rocky that used to kill a different creature every day. When he was a kitten he cornered the biggest rattlesnake I have ever seen in our backyard, a four-footer. Another time I heard Rocky out on the porch crunching on something so loudly I decided to investigate. He was munching the body of a taratula whose legs were scattered all over the porch. In his prime Rocky killed a full-grown rabbit that was nearly as big as himself and decapitated it clean as a blade. The rabbit's earless head was next to the body on the doormat. Lovely mess to clean up. Old Rocky lived a long time, something like 13 years. One day he was just gone, I figure the coyotes got him. Recently there was a bobcat in our backyard, just liesurely laying in our grass taking a nap. Some Western Tanagers have made a nest in a palm frond in my backyard. The males are bright yellow, pretty striking. About a month ago a red-tailed hawk landed in the backyard and jumped around for several minutes on the ground. I've seen them for years flying over my house, but that was the closest I've ever seen a wild hawk like that--I was right at the window just a few feet away. Deer are constant visitors to my neighborhood. Several times I have awoken to the sound of a deer chewing leaves directly outside my bedroom window. Once a fawn fell in our swimming pool and was panicking when we came outside. My older brother jumped in and rescued it. Another time a fawn was outside running like crazy in circles, yelling in that weird baby-like cry deer have. Its mother was feeding nearby, and I swear she looked mortified by her offspring's behavior. The coolest thing I've seen with deer, though, is two males engaged in a battle over a female--actually clashing horns and battling! Like Wild Discovery at home. There's a flock of exotic birds in Burbank, I think they are escaped pets. Parrots and other ones I don't know what to call, definitely not native. The mother-of-all-stories, however, has to be the time a black panther walked past the fence in my backyard. My mom, dad, brothers, and I all saw it. We even looked at the footprints in the sand, they were a good five inches across. I remember our dog Reno, a good watch dog, was hiding under a table close to the house. She wanted no parts of that cat, for though lean it stood taller than a Rottweiler. The people at the Animal Shelter wouldn't believe us and laughed at us. They thought we were playing a joke on them.
  23. As a Laker fan, the Walton selection is not anything to jump up and down about. From what I gather he inherited his old man's injury-prone feet and ankles. Madsen is so non-existent on offense that Luke might fit in better on that end, but defensively I bet he'll get victimized. That is, if Phil gives him any minutes. This Cook kid, on the other hand, averaged 20 and 10 his senior year and was Big 10 Player Of The Year. Not too shabby.
