  1. Been digging the MIles Quintet 1965-68 and In A Silent Way sets the lastcouple of days. Moved on to
  2. I recall seeing the Mike Gibbs Orchestra around this time at IIRC The Rainbow. Maybe it was a year or so later, possibly Gary Burton was guesting. Can anyone refresh my memory.
  3. Have this one and love it.
  4. This reminded me that I hadn't visited this great music for a while. Disc one from this and disc six from the Quintet 1965-68 box. Can't get enough of the rhythm section, Hancock's magical, but then so are Carter and Williams..
  5. I have an early vinyl of this. US jacket, French lp - remember those. Just got the cd in the five cd set. I like it as it reminds me of those terrific nights at Ronnie's where the Shepp band's first set was A Portrait of Robert Thompson. Caught them several times and it always amazing, kicking off with a flamenco style solo from Jimmy Garrison. Unforgettable..
  6. Some nice stuff here.
  7. A recording I could not do without. Disappointingly this cd issue doesn't use the original art work.
  8. Much more enjoyable than I remembered
  9. I've had this since it first came out. If I had to choose just one MIlt Jackson recording for any reason this would be the one. A lot of the tracks are obvious particularly those from the Charliie Parler label. A handful remain a mystery at the moment. But yep,it's all great stuff.
  10. Presently disc 1. Kicks off with the 1947 Carnegie Hall Concert, then two tracks with Machito. I normally give up trying to research this in Lord. It's a bit of a mess but some fine Bird.mostly in good airshot sound.
  11. Didn't work for me. Too long ago to remember why.
  12. I was at the QEH concert. I don't recall the music being that memorable but it was particularly good to see the participants.
  13. Top notch piano jazz.
  14. A couple of Blue notes chosen more or less at random
  15. Agreed, very sad. First saw him with a Mingus Quintet. Then later two or three times with the WSQ. What a sound!
  16. Some Jazz Messengers yesterday - A frequently played favourite. I don't remember when I last played Freedom Rider. Nice Shorter.
  17. Sad news. I'm not a great fan of latin music but from the small number of cds I have by the Fort Apache Band Gonzalez are all terrific..
  18. Paul Motian EBB in Europe
