Yes, sad news. Nevertheless I was always pleased to have the magazine arrive but ended up disappointed after reading it. One of the best things in recent issues was Simon Spillett's observations of the current jazz scene.

A favourite of mine. An Esquire EP was my introduction to hard bop and to Hank Mobley.

when Eager played here (he toured the UK as a solo) in Portsmouth he traveled from London by train. He left his horn on the train. Fortunately the club secretary was able to retrieve it.

Perhaps there'll be a "Rare Tracks" cd one of these days.

Are there any? I haven''t come across any expanded cd issues. But there must be more material from many of the sessions. The only ones i've come across were four tracks on a Musica Jazz cd. Two duets by David Murray and Dave Burrell, one track by the WSQ and one by the Clarinet Summit.

Gil Evans NY Orchestra at the Festival Hall May 1988. Recording from BBC Radio. This was a couple of months after Gil's passing. Excellent cconcert. Vocals by Hiram Bullock on Little Wing and Moondance. Gil Goldstein was on the piano stool.

I rarely play cassettes (it's amazing the deck still works and sounds pretty good) these days but these two have been awaiting a listen for some tome now. Kip Hanrahan; Days and Nights Of Blue Luck Inverted. Pangea. Conjure: Cab Calloway Stands In For The Moon. American Clave. Impressive lineups but neither of these did anything for me. Not keepers.
