Yep, it was the article in JJ that prompted this play. Also it as one of my earliest record purchases back in the 50s. So there's a certain nostalgia element. Playing it now it's only Jim Hall and the leader which really catches my ear.
Are we talking about "Stopping Time"? I no longer have my copy but I found it interesting as a fan of Mr Bley but overall disappointing. Little more than a collection of reminiscences.

I don't think you should look for anything too deep in Lytle's music. But some of it is quite uplifting. That's how I find it. Plenty of others will differ.
