  1. A trade has been arranged. Thanks for looking in.
  2. Link? ... http://bluelake.ncats.net/ he's on till 3am eastern. Thanks. Tuning in now.
  3. Man, I just accidentally morphed into that view as well. Thanks for pointing out the remedy! ... whew ...
  4. The Ictus 30th anniversary box is a 12-CD collection of improvised music. Here's a link to check it out further. From the site: I've burned the discs to my hard drive once, that's it, so they're in almost-new condition. It's a $130 value new. I'd be happy to trade for a box set or, if I had to, about 12 individual CDs in good to excellent condition. Here's my current wish list, to give a rough idea of what I'm interested in: 1. Ellington 1936-40 Small Group Mosaic. 2. That Devilin Tune -- Vol. 2 3. Jeff Chan -- "In Chicago" 4. The Chronological Count Basie and His Orchestra -- "1946-47" 5. The Duke at Fargo, 1940: Special 60th Anniversary Edition PM me if interested in setting up a trade.
  5. Perhaps he's gone on holiday, by mistake. ('Withnail and I' ... anyone?)
  6. Off on a shopping spree perhaps ...

    Anthony Braxton

In addition to the aforementioned meetings with Bailey & Shiurba, there's a recording with Fred Frith, Duo (Victoriaville) 2005 (Victo). Also, as I recall, there's a duo album with James Emery that has never been released (not sure why); you can otherwise hear some terrific Emery with Braxton on the 1980 trio recording, Composition No. 94 (Leo/Golden Years of New Jazz). There's a photo of Emery playing with Braxton here (scroll down half way). Very nice. Thank you!

    Anthony Braxton

Yeah, this one could be great. Has Braxton done a duet with a guitarist? It's on the wish list. Be interested to hear from anyone who orders it.
  9. These birthday parties are great! ... Non stop paryting!! Happy birthday mon.
  10. Thanks for the plug! I was already on... Bright Moments is from 0000-0200 Pacific Time on Mondays. It's eternally, perenially confusing to describe when it's on! Is it Sunday night or Monday morning? Technically it's Monday morning, but most folks seem to think of it as Sunday night. Sigh... My buddy John Pai is the late night guy tonight with Giant Steps from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Ah ... my mistake. Early, early early Monday morning then. 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. Eastern time. Every once in a while I'm up at 3 a.m. Rarely at 5 though.
  11. Not going to be able to stay up for Bill Barton's show, but I'm sampling some of KBCS FM's 'Straight No Chaser' program. Program guide. Very hip.

  13. An great player / composer / arranger. "God's Will" was a beautiful album, I thought. Saw Blanchard about a month ago and it was quite good -- wide-ranging couple of sets that included a mix of new and old. James Moody (tenor) was on board and blowin' his heart out.
  14. Curious ....
  15. Thanks.
  16. While you Chicago cats are on the line, would you recommend the city's jazz festival? I'm starting to plan my summer and am considering a trip to Chicago. Do things generally pick up steam across the board during the festival?
  17. Yikes!
  18. I too am enthusiastic about this one. In fact, it's prompted me to search out some of her other stuff (aside from the 2 Sticks and Stones releases, which I have and also love.) I was scouring around for this one earlier today: ... which if you go here, you can read a nice review and some feedback from Roberts. Back to 'Chicago Project.' The Anderson duets are wonderful -- a highlight for me -- but the album overall has a real nice mix of free-ish playing and more melodic-based playing -- which is kind of Roberts' MO. It's been getting pretty regular spins here, and growing on me with each new listen. The same blog linked above has a quick review of 'Chicago' here. (Which, btw, this guy reviews a LOT of new free jazz releases, and does a pretty good job of giving you a layman's take on things. Gives you some idea of what the music's like without laying on a thick layer of BS.)
  19. ... Happy Birthday ...
  20. Nor do I ... and I'll be in a different area soon anyways, so ... Nice man cave though!
  21. I'd agree. My first thought was, maybe he was doing whatever it was he was doing on purpose. But Allen is pretty convinced that wasn't the case. I know that Braxton (with whom GH has played extensively) has come under some criticism for screwing up and generally miscounting on some of his standards stuff -- several tracks on the Charlie Parker Project in particular. ... curious.
