  1. Anybody else got this? My second hand copy has got serious wow/and or out of tune piano on several tracks.
  2. I read an interview once with Ornette where he explained harmoldic theory by saying that when you get up and get dressed 'your clothes don't tell you where to go - you tell them'.
  3. I agree. I've got it. Great sound.
  4. Rasta Communication by Keith Hudson. A 'desert island' pick.
  5. Until the box set arrives, some albums for download at http://orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com/
  6. Got the url? Couldn't find it on the site.
  7. How about Conrad Herwig - Latin Side of Lohn Coltrane?
  8. Very disappointing. Mainly because some of the songs chosen do not have strong melodies and are not well known (God Knows, Trouble, Dirge, Disease of Conceit). In addition one of my least favourite vocalists - Mike Patton - does one of my least favourite songs - Ballad of a Thin Man. Anthony of the Johnsons does 'Living the Blues' well enough but this is not really a Dylan song, despite being credited to him (it was on Self Portrait). A personal favourite, Dignity, defeats the band, again because there is no melody to work with. The two Jewels and Binoculars discs on Ramboy remain the best 'jazzers do Dylan'.
  9. £13.99 post free at http://www.powerplaydirect.com/ Search under the title.
  10. Regret no time scale or bitrate news. Hope it is at least 192.
  11. Just had an email from the website to say that the tracks are going to re re-encoded 'at a higher' bit rate.
  12. Bit rate is 56kbps - not that you'd find this out until after the download. Sound is awful. The jpeg of the sleeve that comes with the tracks is of some film on a Russian DVD! No download link was supplied and I had to send an email. All pretty shambolic. I complained and they offered a refund, which I accepted. Incidentally they said I was the first to do so. Quite why they don't put the bitrate on the website I don't know. Pass is my advice.
  13. Compulsion is a great record. I remember buying the (mono) lp from HMV in Oxford Street, London, in about 1968. In those days you sat in booths to audition lps and we got the assistant to turn it up loud. Happy days.
  14. I've got their first (?) album (released in the UK on Extra Freedom) and it's great!
  15. Can any one advise me of any difference between '2001' and 'http://www.zweitausendeins.de/'? Thanks.
  16. I've only checked a few but these reissues don't seem to be available from the UK itunes store.
  17. Complete Miles at Montreux has been added to the page linked above, at £99.
  18. The easiest wat I have found to search the jazz database is to sort by price (preis), click on the final page (currently 66) and work back. The most expensive items (like the box sets) will come up first. Apologies if this has already been mentioned.
  19. I'd certainly recomend the Riverside Box - and I paid a lot more for it. Also the Prestige Story if that ever comes up. I've just taken delivery of the Debut Story and it's a fantastic bargain.
  20. Fnac.com have a Vogue Jazz box set (10 cds) for €20
  21. I've had it a few weeks now and play it quite a lot. Grows on you.
  22. Not in the UK store! Belated recomendation for Sanhedrin - Masada outakes, with wonderful packaging.
  23. Zorn:Best of Filmworks is a great overview. Derek Bailey's Ballads cd.
  24. Purchased from caiman.com via Amazon UK They will take them back - but I have to pay postage to New York. From their email 'The consumer exchange program we have established is available only for consumers who live in the United States and Canada. If you live outside North America and have a CD that contains XCP software, we encourage you to take advantage of the software update or uninstall programs available on our website' 'If you would nevertheless like to receive a copy of your CD without the XCP software, you may mail your disc to us at the following address and we will return a replacement copy without content protection to you: Sony BMG Content Protection Team Sony BMG Music Entertainment 555 Madison Avenue, Room 10-75 New York, NY 10022 U.S.A.'
  25. Answering my own question - it (the replacement scheme) is only available in the USA and Canada. They will exchange to non-USA purchasers but only if you post to them, at your cost.
