  2. According to AAA, the cheapest gas within 10 miles is $4.03; just went to that station and it's $4.39.
  3. Thanks, got Herbie's Sextant & Duke's Blues In Orbit along with his Black, Brown and Beige suite w/ Mahalia Jackson too for 6 bucks a pop. You mean this coupon still works today? For anyone that slept through the 40% coupon, here's the consolation prize: 30% off purchase of $10 or more through the 18th. http://www.bordersmedia.com/coup/coupon301115.htm
  4. 15 minutes to load the Forums home page (with minimal graphics/photos). Killin' me. It's not the DSL, because that works fine on other computers. I'm running Zone Alarm security package and its up-to-date (and hasn't ever been turned off). The OS is XP Pro. Perhaps there's some firewall conflict between the OS and Zone Alarm. I see lots of diagnotic and cleanup software for sale. Any of it good? And yes, I've defragged and done all those Microsoft performance/tool things. The hard drive is only about 10% full. The OS is also up-to-date. Only the internet performance seems affected, but my other programs aren't all that demanding. Yours ignorantly, Unk
  5. The Quincy Jones looks nice, but the Hamp - with Kaiser Marshall and my old friend Vernon Alley (not to mention the front-line greats - irresistible.
  6. I'm glad SOMEONE is picking up this little gem. Still surprising that eBay generated no interest...with a great seller and reasonable price. I've seen these go (recently) for $50. Yeah, I've got one for sale/trade, so that's why I've been watching.

    Rabih Abou-Khalil

ENJ-8078 2 Rabih Abou-Khalil oud Howard Levy harm Kenny Wheeler tp, flh Charlie Mariano as Michel Godard tuba Steve Swallow b Mark Nauseef dr Milton Cardona & Nabil Khaiat perc Anyone heard this? I've seen it about, but it's rather pricey for a what-the-heck impulse purchase. And no, I'm not looking to this disc for a whole-lot of "jazz" value, rather musical value of whatever type. (My computer's locked-down by my employer, so I can't hear music samples at, for instance, Amazon.)
  9. No Definitive or Jazz Factory for me; I'll take the genuine/legit issue. But there are also some Music and Arts CDs too; I guess I'm assuming these are legit. Yes? No?
  10. Yes, free at $50. Upcoming releases (e.g. Coltrane Interplay, scheduled 9/18!) not on sale.
  11. Making a mediocre deal even moreso, shipping on 2 CDs, $7.00.
  12. OJCs $8.98 and up. Boxes on sale too (Fearless Leader $44.98.) I know, not a big deal.
  13. My name has dropped off quite a bit in popularity. Heck, I've got recordings from the 20s and 30s where half tha band is named "Unk". (And, of course, that's the genesis of my board name.)
  14. 958 by my name in the US; 8 by my wife's name. (Different surname than mine. Different first name, for that matter.)
  15. I only see 2 from the 9/25 batch. Selfishly, I only checked the ones I wanted. Looks like they're better fixed for the 9/18s. Jimmy Smith from 9/25 batch. http://www.jr.com/JRSectionView.process?di...6706&Ne=500
  16. Another e-mail. The sale is still going or going again. September RVGs included (at least the ones I checked.)
  17. September RVGs are $6.99 at J&R.
  18. Yes. A popular transit point for other West African destinations, especially in the heydey of Air Afrique. I often used it as a long stopover on the way to/from Mali, Burkina, Niger, Cote d'Ivoire or any number of other spots. Certainly an easier place to visit; so mainly, for me it was a chance to decompress.
  19. November. Man, time flies. I don't get to Chicago all that often - five or six times a year - but Michigan even less frequently.
  20. A friend of mine is a dealer rep for one of the big-3 US automakers. I've joined his crusade. DON'T BUY A FORMER RENTAL CAR, even if the carfax is clean/it hasn't been wrecked. They're usually sold to people who believe they're 'as good as new', yet they were owned by a party with a one-year holding period (not much incentive to maintain the car and a strong profit incentive not to - not that they have dealer-certified or otherwise qualified mechanics) and driven by individuals who have no incentive to treat the car well. (Proper break-in? Ha!)
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsvFu750VQ4 Actually, I don't mind them in small doses. What's really cool is they quote a little bit of Steve Miller's "Jungle Love" in that piece. Damn you. Now I've got "Jungle Love" running through my brain. STOP IT!
  22. It took me FOREVER, just to fill my 40GB. I had plenty of material (CDs), but the time commitment...

  24. I gave up drinking beer (oddly enough) before I began brewing it (1978), but I always appreciated Mr. Jackson's (1) insights and (2) advocacy. Without people like him, there'd be a lot more swill in the world. And the wine snobs would be even MORE disparaging.
