Massive Springsteen "Darkness" Reissue
AmirBagachelles replied to Eric's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
The Darkness and Tunnel of Love were the best of the 6-8 tours I got to see. I no longer consider myself a fan (inured to stage antics), but that was good live music. -
Jack Casady's solo begins "The Other Side Of This Life" on Blessed It's Pointed Little Head.... From there, onward and upward.

LF: Walt Dickerson, "A Sense of Direction" (OJC)
AmirBagachelles replied to Bol's topic in Offering and Looking For...
If you really want this music, $35 is a pretty good price to get it in low loss digital, when you consider the more expensive options in 2-3 years. They ain't pressing no more archival jazz CDs for "mainstream" consumers (such as we), it's only a specialty item now. Sometimes when I can't get an OOP disc I console myself with cheap vinyl, and just get a burn of the disc for convenience sake. -

Jaki Byard Experience Natural Black Inventions If I ever do manage to find another Rahsaan box, I promise to hold on to it. I think I sold it here a few years ago.

Freak Out is one of the all-time great records, in my opinion. I very highly recommend you buy, borrow "or check out the library copy of" the expanded 4 CD MOFO audio journal. It tells a big chunk of the story of the very good, sharp, beloved first Mothers. The Flo & Eddie stuff, music and "lyrics", was well-conceived, honest projection/parody of the era of rock star deification. Sizzling FZ band too.

Apostrophe is the studio peak in my opinion, however Lather is quite good and captures some studio work post-Apostrophe, I think. (I may have that wrong.) Post-Apostrophe, there is enough on Joe's Garage to recommend as well.

This might be interesting for those who love the acoustic Bird Song performances from 1980. Try out (w/ headphones) their early resumed electric performances. Here's one from a nifty show, in good sound (worthy of streaming for saving): http://www.archive.org/details/gd80-11-30.sbd-aud.sacks.2416.sbeok.shnf Cheers, Dan

Jonathan thanks, I think Carter-Bradford is among the best reissues I have heard in recent years. Starting about ten years ago, I emailed MC numerous times about a possible Revelation / Flying Dutchman set, and he never seemed to believe this great material could be economically or feasibly licensed. What a thrill to hear this music, with new material, and to know that others can discover this great jazz group. John Carter and Bobby Bradford deserve no less than Mosaic-level treatment. Thanks I look forward to more of your project labors.

Letterman Craps All Over Jazz Again
AmirBagachelles replied to dalemcfarland's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Dave's a professional. A professional comedian. How many of us can say that? ....that's what I thought. Funny is a funny word. I bet most us wouldn't know how or where to begin to know if what he said is funny. -
John Carter & Bobby Bradford on Flying Dutchman
AmirBagachelles replied to Head Man's topic in Discography
The FD vinyl is fairly easy to find in good/great condition. Don't hesitate. Really tragic that it is so underheard and enjoyed even by busy jazz fans those who are familiar with these two great musicians/people. C-B groups are easily among my top five in personal enjoyment terms. -
My copy of Monk In Copenhagen (from Danish Radio, Storyville, 1996) says it was released by agreement with the Monk family estate. It does seem a bit odd that a live session that sounds as good as this one has not been reissued again.

Many folks who were there in the early years say 1970 was the peak year for the Grateful Dead concert "experience". The times were bad, and the band was aware of their talent for providing a haven for its diverse audience to cool their heads. Shows and sets were long, the nights with the New Riders had 4-6 hours of stage time for the musicians involved and while the overall vibe was mellow, there was plenty of thundering groove and their usual dynamics. Take some time with the entirety of 11-08-1970 (including the NRPS), which has a well-known reputation as great-show-lousy-tape. If nothing else, stream the finale Good Lovin' for a few minutes, and make a mental note to come back and CHECK THE WHOLE THING OUT. http://www.archive.org/details/gd1970-11-08.aud.lee.pcrp.26975.shnf There is also a (Charlie Miller) doctored upgrade of the Dead sets, and it's well worth hearing/having. With little or nothing in the band's vault from the second half of 1970, we don't really know what we're missing, but I suspect a lot of nights not unlike 11-08-70. 1970? 3rd best "year" after '68 and '72, imho. Wild groovy music.

I listened to 5-7, 5-8, 5-9-77 this past weekend at high volume on an outdoor system, man that is great live rock music, doesn't need a label. Improv, composition (Help-Slip!), passion, dynamics, GREAT songwriting and interpretations. And it's not even my favorite Dead (that would be '68 and '72). Get those 9 CDs, they sound heavenly, no official release needed.

LF: Sam Rivers, Concept (Rivbea, 1995)

Thanks, any leads appreciated. Cash or trade. Cheers, Dan -
I consider myself pretty capable with consumer tech, and I found the LinkSys setup pretty challenging after an easy time, for years, with NetGear. The CD setup routine was vital, I could not just type in the IP address and find my way around the way I had been doing. I also had to ditch using Windows to configure the connection, I now use a free Intel tool (PROSet Wireless). Whatever company makes your wireless adapter should also offer a decent configuration and connect tool. DHCP is trickier with a cable modem than with DSL, I would definitely get some help from your broadband provider. You should call them and verify for yourself that you can establish a wired connection, then immediately "open" the router using the Setup CD.

Blue Note Deletion email from True Blue/Mosaic
AmirBagachelles replied to jazzbo's topic in Re-issues
Hurry get that Ornette Golden Circle vol 2. Great reissue upgrade/expansion when vol 1&2 came out. -
I can't find a field to enter a message title when I compose a PM. I use internet explorer, and the white space with the cursor expands to cover other fields. Thanks for any help on this. Overall, I think these PM screens are awful compared to the previous version of the board interface.

Ok, so is someone here saying that Sam Rivers, admired musician, is simply mistaken or over-reaching? Why post disbelief in a public forum? What is that based upon?

Sam Rivers Mosaic this November
AmirBagachelles replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
And still no re-issue of Contrasts from ECM. That is a strange omission. It is one of Sam Rivers' most unique visions and one of the best ECM records I know. -
I found a brand new boxed Shure V15VxMR. I am aware that replacement styliii are hard to find. So my question is, should I hang onto it for the day (2-10 years out) when I can have the analog situation of my modest dreams (i.e. floor not like a trampoline), or is this a wasting asset that I should unload? thanks
