Jim, we're on one called "Artistlaunch". We get played quite a bit, but CD sales are slow. Want the link?
-
Love it!
-
"The sky is falling......." I'll also be 79. Lots of time to get worked up over it.
-
Merry Christmas!

Ok, I admit it. I'm really both Jim Sangrey and Chuck Nessa Have you thought of therapy?

Most of the jazz shows in Kansas City and surrounding area are on public radio broadcasts. Bob Parlocha in the early morning wee hours, but local jocks the rest of the time. KCUR 89.3 out of Lawrence, Kansas (KU's station), and KKFI 90.1 has late morning and afternoon jazz during the week with local jocks. 91.5 plays some, too, but the shows seem to come and go, for the most part it seems to play classical music.

Whew! I'm glad I put in my $.02 worth a few times! I just don't have lots to say, I'd rather read and learn....... , unless that'll get my butt kicked.....

Where does one go to fine old radio broadcasts?
Herb replied to Popper Lou's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Live365.com has several show on it with old time live radio broadcasts. -
He'll wind up being an important person in the world of guitar playing. I enjoy his playing when he just plays guitar, hate the synth stuff. He's from Lee's Summit, Missouri, an eastern suburb of Kansas City, and a tad younger than me. I got to "jam" with him on several occasions when he (and I) was young, and remember resenting "that snot nosed kid" being able to play circles around me. But now I'm older, and he can play even bigger circles around me.

OK, I'll join in, but you'll be sorry! All I have that's current is the enlarged version of my avatar.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that one, 7/4! Last time I saw Yes live was, uh, 1972. I loved everything up to "Tales", and didn't care for much after that. Perhaps I should do like B-3'er, and give it a re-listen......

19 - 8! Man, that was ugly!
-
Hmmm..., seems we have a lot of younger jazz listeners here, that's a good thing. B-) 54 for me.

Just won a $50 bet, and guess who settled it!!

Rooster, I'll call him for you for one of the tickets! -
So, what is an Organissimo anyway?
Herb replied to BeBop's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
What??? An Italian man that's never had an "Organissimo"??? -
I was at a now defunct Blues board, and was discussing archtop guitars with zizala, and she told me about this board and AAJ. I didn't stay at AAJ very long, as a matter of fact, I think I only posted there once. Not that I'm a prolific poster, anyway, but I like it here, the flaming is almost non-existent, I like that. Plus B-3er and the guys have a damned good band! B-)

Hey, see the fork sticking out of him? He's done........

Trust me, Paco, it was MY pleasure! Wolff, I stick with NOS RCA tubes. Expensive, but absolutely no questions about the sound that's going to come out of the amp. B)

ziz, it's a great guitar, has a sound a bit unique from the L-7, not better or worse, just a little different. I've played them, but not owned one. May not be quite as loud as the L-7, but then again, each guitar is different, so it could be louder. As far as pickups for it, you won't want to cut the body for hard mounted p-ups, and I think DeArmonds and their ilk suck (my $.02 - I'll probably get flamed for that! ), I'd try to get a Gibson Johnny Smith set, the one with the mini-humbucker mounted to the pickguard, pickguard mounts on the side to the binding, and one small screw in the top near the joining of the cutaway and the neck, probably where the existing guard is, anyway, you'll just be swapping guards and not cutting the guitar.

Thanks, ziz! Remember, you turned me on to this forum! (From the DMF) Joe, the store matched the MF price of $1099, but I traded the old, tired, broken down '69 Twin straight across for it.

OK, jazz fans, the new Fender '65 RI Twin Classic 15 finally arrived in Kansas City at my local music store, and I got to test drive it. I took my ES-355 and my LeGrand, and my real '65 Twin so I could do an A/B amp comparison side by side. Set it all up, identical settings on both amps, plugged in the 355 to the Classic 15, and started playing. Ooooh, very full and rich! Now I've always loved the way my '69 and '65 Twins sounded, but after the Classic 15, I plugged in to the '65, and started playing, and it sounded like someone was holding a clothespin over it's nose. Hmmmm...... So then I picked up the LeGrand. Now I was going to be concerned about resonant feedback with the 15" speaker because of it's fuller bass qualities. Same scenario, started playing, no feedback at higher volume than the '65, rich and full, and with the LeGrand's tone, I got an instant crowd around me. Plugged into the '65, had to turn it down, and it sounded real midrange-y and nasal. I also took the '69 twin with me. It was old and tired, needed caps, tubes, and the cabinet was about shot. I didn't bring the '69 home, it got traded for the new Classic 15, which is now sitting in the living room, waiting to be played and gigged with. I took the '65 over to Don's, where we rehearse, to be used as my rehearsal amp, and brought the Vibrolux that was my rehearsal amp home, so I could play the Tele through it. I am HAPPY! This new amp is just full of tone for jazz. B) B)

Congratulations, Jim! Edward is right, my daughter is 15 and looks just like her mother. And that atrracted a guy like me. Not a pretty picture for a father! Best of luck!
-
Not me, heck, I can't even write when I'm awake. It's all I can do to play somebody else's music!
-
I tend to listen to other guitar players, B-3 players, and piano players. I like the small combo swing stuff, early Nat King Cole with Oscar Moore kinda thing. I oughta listen more to horn players, but I'm just not a big horn fan. That sound ain't my style.

Is selling yourself the hardest part as a musician
Herb replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Musician's Forum
Playing , for me, is fun. B) The business end of the deal, promotion and marketing has always been just work, and the nastiest part of the music "biz". And it seems to take much longer than the gigs!
