  3. I'm choosing the Roditi/Drew option, personally. But I'm not much of a vocal fan.
  4. I want an Avanti. Bad. Always have.

The Sonny Clark Trio is one of my favorites. My taste, however, is questionable.
  7. Hmmm. So much for the McDonalds bailout.
  8. It's book coupon week. Go git 'em!
  9. Saw the thread title and wondered "Scott or Janis"? The sign of a sick mind.

  13. Worth checking out. Sort by genre, instrument, label, price, whatever. Trane, Ben, Ornette, Liebman, Django, Lloyd...plenty of variety, excepting, perhaps AG. http://www.jr.com/JRSectionView.process?Se...th=/Music/Jazz/
  14. Eritrea's tops. Greenland (I know, not a country) is a close second. Burkina was charming in its own fashion, as was Benin. And surprisingly, Bolivia. Bangladesh more than India. Somalia and Sudan were, but probably no longer are; I haven't been in a couple of years. Ah, so many great places.
  15. I know you're all on pins and needles, awaiting word of my decision. Good recommendations all around. Ultimately, I had to go with my gut. And my gut said: 1965-68. But wait, this box was so cheap ($39), I decided to pick up the Prestige box too. The idea was to capture two different eras - albeit with a big, important gap in the middle. Someday, perhaps I can fill in. No reaction from my friend yet, but I'm hoping it's not ruled 'justifiable homicide', if she's less-than-pleased. Again, thanks all for the recommendations. So many good boxes out there.
  16. Archie Shepp! Anyone inclined to put James Carter in this category? In the right mood, I like Carter too.

  19. Berkeley's fine, though 90 minutes or so away. At 40 cents or so a mile, there is some cost involved - money that could be spent at: The Beat - downtown Sac @ 17th and J Dimple Records (several locations) Esoteric (on ElCamino) is sometimes worth a stop, when you're at Tower anyway There's also a little, but not-bad, shop between the famous nightclub and the equally famous bookstore downtown, right across from the capitol. Seems to be the club is something like the Garage or Capitol Garage. In any event, I think the location is between 12th and 15th on L street. Finally, there's a shop in North Sac called, I believe The Underground. This location isn't great, but others are better (Chico, Oroville, etc.) Or consider a stop in nearby Davis, on your way to Berkeley, if you must. Aardvark and others.
  20. Busy as a one-armed paper hanger. Dumb as a bag of hammers. (Was this one already posted...?)
  21. Quicker 'n greased sh*t through a short dog.
  22. I didn't think Bird had any horn (his own or anyone else's) for more than a week. Does this one come with a pawn ticket? (Sorry for the Thursday sarcasm; some days are just like that.)
  23. ...and jazz makes me low. ...and jazz makes me feel every other kind of way. That's what makes it great.
