  1. wow, it took 12 whole posts before the first one whining about the whining!
  2. anything that supports the Arts is good. Whether a full Cabinet position is neccessary, I don't know, but something official should exist
  3. I agree. When I first moved here I was amazed at how fast things were actually delivered to me. Less than a week from California? Unheard of in Canada.
  4. pretty amazing seeing it "docked", as it is now, in some of the pictures. must have been an incredible sight to see in person
  5. Happy birthday!
  6. get the biggest capacity hard drive you can afford. My 30GB iPod is jammed full and it's a bit of a pain to have to change albums out every few days
  7. Wow! Where did you pick this up for $19? I got it at Borders for about that (I think I had a 20% coupon)
  8. If it weren't for my kids' love of channels such as Noggin, Sprout, Nick and Disney and my wife's love of HGTV, Style, etc. I would have gone with just antenna and no cable years ago! Even the sound seems better on antenna-HDTV.
  9. make sure you try an antenna for over the air HD broadcasts, too. The over the air signals are uncompressed (unlike cable) and it's free. Of course, if you already have cable or satellite, that last point doesn't matter much, but the picture does look nice with a decent antenna.
  10. Read the fine print, though. There are some metro areas listed where the sale is not taking place.
  11. I agree. I also love the music on Drowning Witch (especially the title song and I Come from Nowhere). Awesome playing.

    Anthony Braxton

I could (and sometimes do) blow my whole music buying budget on Braxton. I can't keep up! I would really like to get the Moscow (Leo) and the 6-disc standards set, and if I could afford it I would get that 9-disc piano set.
  13. You only have 1/31 to earn the points; you have until the end of April to redeem them.
  14. I hope the ECM Touchstones make it to BMG before they shut down. Anyone recommend that new Charlie Haden disc?
  15. Thanks Chris. Same to you
  16. You're welcome! More than just the code may be expiring before long though. Somebody on the SH Forum just commented that BMG is no longer accepting new members as of today. Their website is suggesting that people go check out Yourmusic instead. I wonder how much longer BMG/Yourmusic has. I've had the BMG site bookmarked for years, but today it suddenly started redirecting me to yourmusic. I had to type in the web address of BMG music service just to pay my bill.
  17. One Shot Deal, Imaginary Diseases, Wazoo, The Grand Wazoo
  18. I love this weather. it's about 8 degrees here with strong winds and blowing snow.
  19. Well, so much for BMG's e-mail notification; I guess you sign up to receive an e-mail when a title arrives, but then they don't tell you. I just ordered the Clark, Mobley, and Turrentine thanks to seeing them listed here. The email notices seem to come the next day. (it could be all the spam controls) I got the email for these on Monday, and I quit yourmusic 2 years ago!
  20. Oatmeal. The low sugar kind you get at Whole Foods.
  21. That where Dow is?
  22. It's funny, I generally hate the clarinet, but I really dig the bass clarinet (Dolphy and Rivers especially). I also have little to no use for the flute, violin, and/or tuba in most instances... although sometimes they do the job. Funny, two of my favorite instrument tones are the clarinet and bass clarinet.
  23. Good to hear that Wazoo is still around. I shopped there a lot in 1978--81. Back then, I also shopped at the Wazoo in Madison, Wisconsin, owned by the brother of the guy who owned Wazoo in Ann Arbor. I wish I could support them more. Great store.
  24. Encore Recordings, PJs Used records, Wazoo, Underground Sounds, and of course the flagship downtown Ann Arbor Borders.
