  1. I have a few duplicate cd box sets so if anyone's interested, please send me a PM. These are three which I somehow ended up with two copies of. That's the point where I realize the collecting may have gotten out of hand... (thanks!) Wes Montgomery - The Complete Riverside Recordings 12 CD - $120 shipped to US. Brand new sealed full-sized set. Box in perfect shape, no cutouts or anything like that. I have this second copy after initially purchasing on eBay where the seller took six months to get me the set, by which point I'd tracked down another copy with the help of fellow board members. Duke Ellington - The Reprise Studio Recordings 5 CD - $120 shipped to US. Mosaic Records version. #4,961 of 10,000. Full set with box and book. CDs are all in pristine condition, book and box are both in excellent condition with standard mild shelf wear on the back of both the box and book. -Basie set sold-
  2. This is one I enjoy very much and I remember it took me quite a while to find one under $90 just a couple years back. And, as a heads up, they also have Joe Henderson's similarly sized Milestone Recordings set for about the same price.
  3. Hi, PM sent re: the Kenton Capitol set.
  4. my favorite finds were probably all mosaic sets that went out of print before i started buying jazz: count basie - the complete roulette live recordings mosaic (no box/book) for $20 nat king cole - the complete capitol recordings of the nat king cole trio for $120 duke ellington - the complete reprise studio recordings for $30
  5. What else did you buy? (It's cheaper to live vicariously through other people's orders. ) In addition to the Eldridge, I picked up the Teagarden set based on the reviews here and the Bix/Trumbauer/Teagarden which I've had my eyes on for a few years now. I probably would've just added them to my cart without clicking the "Order" button because that's usually what I do when I'm tempted but when I saw the Roy Eldridge in Last Chance that was the final motivation I needed. And I picked up the Tal Farlow a couple years ago in the Zweitausendeins sale or else I would've certainly got that instead of one of the others. I'd actually not heard him prior to my order at the time but that set turned out to be one of my top 3-4 favorites.
  6. I was just placing an order from the 15% off sale and noticed that this is on Last Chance now too so I had to add it.
  7. Beachwood, OH. I guess all of Concord's inventory is right there about two miles down from the street from me now.
  8. Thanks, I may go that route. And I just remembered that I have a friend who works for Concord and, by luck, is going to be in their warehouse tomorrow morning. He's going to check and let me know if they still have any in stock.
  9. Ah thank you for pointing that out, it would probably be a good place to try. For some reason I was under the impression that it had been deleted about six months ago and the 4-6 weeks at Amazon probably aided that. Well, if the site says 3-5 days it can't hurt to try.
  10. (4th time was the charm, thanks everyone!)
  11. Thanks to another poster on this forum I knew the Capitol set would be selling out soon and so I managed to snag it below cost on eBay earlier this month. I'll listen to some more samples but it looks like I may end up purchasing the Condon direct.
  12. Yes, it's here! This may well be the earliest Ellington small band I've heard and through disc one I'd say this set is going to be near the top of my many favorites.
  13. I'm seeing them at the Passport Project in Cleveland on Friday, can't wait! Eddie Gale & Dick Griffin Now Band
  14. Half Price Books is my favorite book store though usually I just go for the books, and then quickly scan the cds for the occasional Connoisseur or Rare Groove (which is the most I can usually hope for). However, one of my local stores has been a gold mine over the past month, with some of the highlights being discs by Air, Henry Threadgill solo, Sun Ra, Vienna Art Orchestra, Rashied Ali, Billy Bang, a couple of World Saxophone Quartet discs (plus a bunch of solo Oliver Lake, two Julius Hemphills, and a David S. Ware), William Hooker, Jimmy Lyons, and other miscellaneous Silkhearts, Hats, Black Lions, ECMs, etc. I also grabbed a few cheap Mingus/Dolphy 1964 live recordings and they had a bunch of McLeans and later Miles Columbia japanese imports. Last time I ended up with a stack of about 15 so I had to skim some out, I'm hoping the WSQ Ellington discs and some of the others I had to pass on will still be waiting by the time I make it back with another paycheck.
  15. Up. I picked them up during a sale when they came out and tried to watch the Palomino disc. Basically they look like very low quality 3rd or 4th generation vhs tapes that need the tracking adjusted a little bit, specifically the bottom 5th of the image which was very flickery and distorted. As far as the content I was pretty bored and only made it about 40 minutes into it before I decided to try it again another night when I had more patience. It was certainly a very far cry from 'A Joyful Noise', and it looks like someone may have just set up a camcorder 40 feet away with no zoom and left it there for the duration of the show (it's difficult to make out very many details). Maybe I just have to go into these with lower expectations, however I'd definitely recommend trying some of the other DVDs first.
  16. The 1990 issue of the Freedom Now Suite is available from candidrecords.com if you don't mind shipping costs from the UK.
  17. CharityNavigator.org is a helpful website that does breakdowns of various charities, including % of donations that go towards overhead and descriptions of what they do with the money they receive. They have a section listing Four Star rated charities specifically for Katrina relief. When I made a small donation last month I ended up going with Direct Relief International, though there are a bunch of others that also looked good.
  18. I'll be heading up from Cleveland for this, I can't wait. I think tickets are still available. (Click into http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurc...rrent_year=2005 and click on "October 2005" and there should be a link to purchase tickets.
  19. Is there any special procedure one needs to do to cancel a part of the order but keep the Miles set at the original low price? Like others, I had the Monk/Coltrane disc in with the Cellar Door set and if I can't cancel it without losing the original $40 preorder price I'll probably end up picking it up in the store day of release and having two copies when/if the Cellar Door set ever ships. On the plus side, this means that I will probably be getting the new Jelly Roll set which I didn't think I was going to be able to budget in pre-postponement.
  20. I went ahead and reported this to ebay for them to investigate, as I've had a seller waste my time with this scheme in the past and communities like eBay are built upon the honor of its members. And, if this just happens to be a bidder who has put in all 49 of his bids on the same seller's auctions over the past month then I imagine they'll look into it and find that to be the case. Link to report shill bidders. The search by bidder page is also telling in cases like this.
  21. I think in the case of the Krupa/James set it is split out so the first four discs are of Krupa and the last three are James, so it probably got entered in as four by mistake. I agree that it seems very unlikely that they are selling partials. Thanks for the heads up by the way, my order has shipped already.
  22. I'm not sure if you're interested but I have one for trade/sale in the Offerring and Looking for forum: Duke Ellington - The Reprise Recordings (Mosaic MD5-193) 5 cd set. #4,961 out of 10,000. Excellent condition, book and all discs like new. Link
  23. Hi, I sent you a PM.
  24. Hmmm, I was going to try and order about 15 of these a few weeks ago when Cadence temporarily had them marked down to $8.50. Unfortunately the sale ended abruptly before I built up the reasoning to convince myself to place my order. These prices are in euros and not pounds, correct? I think all of the mid-price selections are in cardboard sleeves rather than jewel cases so you could probably ship a pretty large order and still be under the 4lbs or so for the ~$26 flat rate shipping charge. I added everything I didn't have to my cart 30 items total (a few double cds too) and the total with shipping was about $220 USD, so around $7/disc. Anyone know about customs or other additional costs one might have to pay for an order this size? The only other time I've bought anything from Europe to the US was the Cecil Taylor 2 T's set from Amazon (about the same price actually), and that didn't have any special import fees. Edit: Thought I'd add for anyone else considering an order that I found a few more HatHut discs at the 4.99 price by doing a cd search for both "HatOlogy" and "HatArt". correct: 22 euro up to 2kg, 29 euro above 2kg ←
  25. Hi, I'm looking to trade these for any Mosaics (or Selects) that I don't have and I'm especially looking for the Ellington Capitol set, the OOP Hodges 51-55 set, or the Mingus Candid set. Duke Ellington - The Reprise Recordings (Mosaic MD5-193) 5 cd set. #4,961 out of 10,000. Excellent condition, book and all discs like new. Duke Ellington - The Centennial Edition: Complete RCA Victor Recordings 24 cd set. The cds are all like new and the box is in excellent condition. The binding on the included book is coming apart and the book has a smokey smell (I purchased this set second hand from an apparent smoker). Phil Woods - Phil Woods Quartet/Quintet 20th Anniversary Set (Mosaic MD5-159 Discs 2&3). Sorry, this is only discs 2 and 3 from the oop Mosaic set. They are brand new, with jewel case and inserts/session info. No book or box however. I purchased this as a partial online to replace a scratched disc one of my set. None of these sessions have been issued otherwise so this is still a good way to hear them if you're a fan. Includes the full quartet sessions from 8-11-1981, 8-12-1981, and 12-19-1984. I also have the following single discs for trade. Louie Bellson - Peaceful Thunder Louie Bellson - Black, Brown, Beige (w/ Clark Terry & Joe Williams) Dave Brubeck - Time Out (20-bit, sealed) Ron Carter - Where? Miles Davis - At Newport 1958 (remastered, bmg club) Eric Dolphy - At the Five Spot, vol. 1 Eric Dolphy - At the Five Spot, vol. 2 Lou Donaldson - Pretty Things Bill Evans - Conversations with Myself (Verve 20-bit digipack) Bill Evans - Portrait in Jazz Charles Fambrough - The Charmer (w/ Roy Hargrove, Grover Washington, Jr, Kenny Garret, Abdullah Ibrahim) Phillip Manuel - Love happened to me Gillespie/Parker/Powell/Mingus/Roach, The Quintet - Jazz at Massey Hall Please pm or email me if you're interested in any of the above and thanks for reading.
