Futurama is fantastic and I hate the Fox Network for having cancelled it. THey never gave it a chance. The 7 PM timeslot was constantly overrun with Football and other sports going into overtime. Besides the language was far too racey for that time. Certainly alot of kids are going to be watching TV then, and would be fascintated by the cartoon. BTW, Adult Swim showed one of my favorite episodes on Thursday, with the Army of Lucy Liu-bots. Blank robots stamped with the label "Mac Formatted" !!!!! The film "Why humans shouldn't date robots" was one of the funniest I'v ever seen on either The Simpsons or Futurama. I think it fair to say Matt Groening has seen a few Mel Brooks movies in his life.

I believe it was on CSPAN2, and the show was about READING BOOKS. Great band, I especially liked the guitarists and trombonist. Good vocals too, from the guitarist, trombonist, conga player and pianist. McBride himself is quite the sax player (and author!). Nice to know there's a few good people left in this world.

Most excellent. I think it was CSPAN2.

For what you wondered? Let me impart the following anecdote: WHile walking past a mother of a girl about 12 in the local Safeway, I heard the young lady say to her mother about a picture on some product: "Look mom, it's Justin. Mom, look, it's Justin!" The quid pro quo goes full circle.

Hey, I love Cannonball. Your comparison is off though. It was comparing Miles and Coltrane to DeFrancesco's horn section on " Dr Jeckyl". Joey's band seems to have practiced the song more than Miles' band did.

I believe Mike had a disk crash. He sent me an email.

I think I saw that on Futurama once.

Count me in. I've been a big fan since 1973 or so. One of the first concerts I ever saw was TOP, who opened up for Santana in 1974. The best of the bay area was smokin' in NYC that night, at the old Paladium. Some of their newer CDs are fine too, I especially liked "Monster on a Leash" and "TOP". While ol' Lennie was by far their best singer, that Tommy Boyles (????) (think that's his name) was really good.

Actually one could argue your true nature was revealed to all by starting this thread, Goulden-Boy.

Oh, you mean like you did, to a person you didn't even know? You couldn't wait to attack me either. I guess I somehow represent a threat to your dogmatic "existence".
-
Only if we pay attention to it... Something tells me you're the biggest as$hole here. I also suspect you don't like people who's views differ from that of a reclusive jazz dogmatist. Perhaps it's long overdue for you to curb your jazz dogma. Your clique can only protect you so much.

You might want to check out Band In a Box and ACID.

Pretty Pathetic, Considering Its From Blue Note
JazzRules replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I assume you meant this particular thread? "Ranking member of House Appropriation Committee, calls for Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz resignation" THanks, first time I had seen that. I think the White House should "obey" Wolfowitz has to be the most dangerous man in America. -
I don't let them get that close.

If "Blue Trane" is "pathetic", what do you call a George W Bush speech? Certainly in this world of wayward politicians, economic depression, "Arrrrnooold", SARs, terrorists.........we can reserve the word "pathetic" for more appropriate applications? -
Feel free to study my ass. Women dig it. Doctors are amazed by it.

I'd like to see some research devoted to ©Rap and Lemming Disorder. Seems a major portion of American society suffers from this affliction.
-
"although Bela Fleck and Pat Martino actually meshed pretty well (although they were teamed with some "smooth Jazz" trumpeter!!????.) " -Perhaps Chris Boti on trumpet? He shows some promise at times. "But Joey Defrancesco, Tuck Andress, Derek Trucks with Victor Wooten and "Future Man?"" -Pretty crazy lineup there. Tuck and Trucks are at opposite sides of the spectrum. Joey fits in with anybody, never a problem there, as does Mr Wooten.
-
Anything is better than ©rap or metal. Jam bands might be a good stepping stone to jazz, much as "rock" bands of yore like The Doors, Allman Brothers, Santana, Mike Bloomfield, Zappa...... used to be. M(oron)TV entrenchment runs deep in this country. There's a whole generation that "grew up" with it. If one were to calculate the harm MTV did to this country, the tally would probably pay to rebuild Iraq 10 times over, but I digress......... Phish, Kimock, reconstituted Dead bands, they aint bad, especially by todaze "standards". Latching on to musicians like Larry Carlton, Robben Ford or maybe even Joey DeFrancesco shouldn't be that hard for those of the dead persuasion.
-
My Joey did that? He's such a nice young fellow too. Good story.

Huh, as in "cliched"? I don't hear it very much.
