  1. That's my favourite of those I've heard.
  2. Lionel Pillay - Shrimp Boats
  3. Jackie and Roy - Time and Love Truth be told I never really 'got' Jackie and Roy. Periodically revisiting. Woo!!! Interesting. Was this actually a recording of a rehearsal? When are the recordings from? (Discogs is a no say).
  4. Whilst I don't often post my Mann listens, with time, Herbie Mann has been occupying more and more of my listening space. Such a vast, varies and approachable back catalogue, which is almost always fun.
  5. Shorty Rogers And Bill Perkins – Live At The Royal Palms Inn - Volume 5 A nice record that I will revisit. A lot of effort has gone into the arrangements and the two leads play well. Shame about the bass.
  6. What an interesting record. As is often the case with split leader dates, this had completely passed me by. The Sonny Rollins tracks are obviously pretty eye opening, similar to what he would do on the record with Hawkins.
  7. I think you posted this upthread, which was my introduction to this LP. Its become a fast favourite since then. Thanks for the recommendation. I love a list, as they make a great way to get acquainted with things you've missed (although I never cared for the ranking part). Thanks for sharing.
  8. I hadn't heard of these, but I see that they are all streamable. Are any of the dates particular favourites?
  9. Sorry. I've tried googling this and got nothing. Geezil is something to do with Popeye? What's Minerva doing here? The goddess?
  10. Yep. I had to Google what it might have meant to a US audience. I guess the British equivalent would be something like "Codger Question".
  11. That rings a bell.
  12. I re-read that Beatles interview he gave a few years ago around once every six months. Those no-playing motherf$¥kers.
  13. Interesting that the Obits so far appear to be missing what I always regarded as two milestones: the excellent George Benson single, which led the way to the Michael Jackson successes, and the slightly dubious (but surely obit-appropriate) fact that his 1960s jazz hits include what would become the Theme to Austin Powers.
  14. This one is excellent. Hot stuff.
  15. Gosh. RIP. Quite aside from the music he was perhaps the greatest interviewee ever.
  16. George Lewis / Douglas Ewart – Jila - Save! Mon. - The Imaginary Suite
  17. Julius Hemphill – Raw Materials And Residuals Actually, the fact that my mother in law is allergic to grandchildren is meaning that I'm getting in lots of listening this weekend whilst childminding.
  18. Jackie Gleason – The Now Sound... For Today's Lovers
  19. Exactly as you say. It is one of my favourite records. Shame about the cover...
  20. Taking advantage of the deafness, as advised.
  21. Khan Jamal Creative Art Ensemble – Drum Dance To The Motherland
  22. Dave Holland and Sam Rivers
  23. I asked him whether he enjoyed the record and he said it was brilliant because it was like when he plays guitar himself. Which i guess is fair. I'm afraid to say it was more about battling lego men than building. Those are such great records. Last one of the session: Sun Ra - Cosmic Tones End of session sadly. My deaf mother in law is with us for a week so opportunities to play music are pretty slim.
