  1. the Hank D'Amico tracks on CD2 are gold. D'Amico on clarinet was completely off my radar before. Those songs are tight. Keeping going on this one...
  2. Let's hope that doesn't happen! We all remember how he felt about Spiro et al
  3. https://jazzinbritain1.bandcamp.com/album/kaleidoscope-of-rainbows-live-75 Jazz in Britain issued this live from '75 recording of Kaleidoscope in 2021. I'm behind the times and had no idea. Enjoying the listen.
  4. This album streams. First heard her on local radio recently and had no idea she was so young.
  5. I haven't seen Malian Mami Diarra mentioned in this thread. The young lady's singing is a force of nature. Here's the track Bagnaigo:
  6. This was a good one. Hate I missed the Chico track.
  7. 1 - Sick production. Sounds lovely. Great singing and playing. Nothing to dislike here. My dad was a shag DJ (shag being the music they call "northern soul" elsewhere in the world) and this is right in line with what they call "beach music" around these parts. You could probably hear this in Myrtle Beach during SOS weekend. No names here though but I'm familiar some with this singer. Name escapes me at the moment. 2 - Sax player has a tinge of Pharaoh Sanders but it's not him. Or maybe it is? The accompanying instrumentation just doesn't bring Sanders to my mind. And the sax seems to be played faster than Sanders would. 3 - 6: No guesses for any of these. Great playing on all songs. 5 & 6 are the most enjoyable of this group, although the vocals on 6 are iffy to my ears. The Rhodes and guitar on 5 are excellent. 7 - Like this song. Drumming and percussion work and the rest of the band are good. No idea unfortunately. 8 - Another great tune. Vibes are well played. The groove is excellent. Seems like this would be a Hutcherson track? 9 - Fantastic. Tolliver? Wasn't going to guess him until the trumpet started. 10 - Familiar song and one I enjoy. Unfortunately I have no guesses in mind. 11 - Good vibe, enjoyable. Singing is good. Seemed like lots of piano in the foreground on this BFT. Not a bad thing! Enjoyed it. Thanks for putting it together 🍻
  8. Great news on this reissue along with two new links to Frederiksburg Records and Cadnor which I didn't know about. Cheers y'all 🍻
  9. Maybe not always but I will say it was well made. Editing and application of color were top notch.
  10. I know someone in this movie; one of the kids killed by the headliner. So I watched it - well, most of it. The gore and violence rival any movie I've ever seen and were pretty ridiculous. The gore is pornographic really, since characters are obviously introduced and set up in scenes that telegraph intent from miles away.
  11. Iverson's list has some gems but good lord it's maddening to read his articles. Anyway, he was spot on with the selection of Ellington's Piano Reflections and many others. The article's selections and the ones listed here will be fun to explore.
  12. Ah, good to know. I've heard so many versions of this tune but never knew exactly who did it first. I think that Crew Cuts version was used in the movie Road House as well. And spot on that being a Jamaican cover. Alton Ellis is a legendary singer there and his covers of American doo wop and soul are always worth a listen.
  13. Were the Chords the original? I've always loved this version from Alton Ellis:
  14. Didn't know Endea Owens was from Detroit. This looks fantastic. Congrats on the project!
  15. I've never studied that cover art before but noticed it also doesn't appear to use that law of thirds that Miles used for his designs. The pic of Larry himself is great though.
  16. Honestly a lot of them look fascinating. I picked up the Dorham and the In With The In Crowd books.
  17. The Ellington and James Johnson books look intriguing as well. I thought I saw 2 books on Duke but it was just one. Edit to correct again: there are 2 Ellington books. The second is Jack Chambers Tone Parallel.
  18. For sure. I'm of the opinion that one can't truly get an accurate history of anything in the US without accounting for organized crime syndicate involvement.
  19. Love that record and if there's any real complaint from me about these Black Jazz releases is that they're EPs instead of LPs. Kind of like that Sonny Fortune/Stan Hunter Trip On the Strip record.
  20. There are some titles there that I really like. But I've been shifting to downloads for the most part due to space issues. I think the concepts of the Tone Poet and Classic series are great, and I hope they continue doing them. Helluva legacy from this label.
  21. J Jazz collection from BBE.
