  1. Allison Miller on #3 was fantastic. I also have the CD for track 7 but I missed it badly. Thanks for putting this together! Enjoyable!
  2. 1. Familiar enough tune that someone will guess straight away. Pianist is ridiculously good. Love the left hand. It's like a symphony coming out of those keys. Shaming myself with a guess but Byard? 2. Such great playing. Could listen to this saxophone all day. 3. Flautist is very good but I'm more drawn to the pianist here. Understated but active on the left. Love the bassist too. Rhythm trio portion is my fave of this song. 4. Good song, no guesses. The recording sounds of newer vintage but by established musicians. 5. I hear a Ben Webster influence on the hornsman. Definitely a well executed ballad. 6. Over too soon. Good song 7. Bud Powell? Something from one of the Blue Notes 8. Severinsen? 9. No idea on the singer but the guitar is reminiscent of Gabor. 10. Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered. No clue on vocalist. 11. Great follow up to number 10. Flows really well. Urgent playing. Love it but who would this be? Facility of Hubbard on the trumpet but more controlled. Hmmm...Sax player has plenty of force 12. Love it. Sounds live or otherwise audio-challenged but doesn't detract a bit. Excellent. Love the chanting but still no clue 13. Trying to guess this trombone player - nothing's coming up. Are they the leader? Seems like it. Interesting song. George Coleman-esque sax player but I don't think it's him. Great listen. I know there's some legends on this that I've completely missed.
  3. It's got a ASMR effect in spots which is cool but overall it's unique and there's just something about it that really works.
  4. This one from Luaka Bop as well, if anything to get this material back available in reasonable ways One more. Great thread topic
  5. Braxton seems to only release boxes at this point but these 3 are ones I go back to the most.
  6. The hip hop album Blind Spot is the one I'm most interested in.
  7. Some highlights of a sudden binge on metal these past few days. Itch has been scratched.
  8. Looking everywhere online and outside of random YT videos this music doesn't seem to be on any streaming platforms or bandcamp. The LPs can be found for decent prices here and there, but Mosaic does such a good job on sound quality.
  9. Skipping the Desmond bc I have all the other CD issues of that music and am not sure I need more, esp something of that set's size. Would love to have the portion with the valve trombone but...
  10. Not just your opinion. Not to slag any of those involved but these are worth it for Coleman who plays excellent across these songs.
  11. A little help. This is one of my favorite hard bop tunes but I'm struggling with ID'ing who takes the sax solos first. I *think* Tina goes first then McLean after Mitchell but damn I'm not 100% and it's driving me nuts. Anyone know for sure?
  12. 1 - Nice swinging groove. Sax player has full facility of that horn. Trombone was impressively controlled but the solo was just ok. Sax was better in this tune. Is this the Basie Bunch? 2 - Sounds familiar. Love the song. Great groove and the ensemble plays well together. Feel like I should be able to guess this but nothing is coming to mind at the moment. Trombone here too, and it's very good. 3 - Killer brush work in the intro. Is it Manne on drums? Love this quiet style of song. Drummer is impressive for sure. Corea on keys? 4 - Throwback style with a more modern sounding recording. No guesses. 5 - Wow, short and sweet up-tempo. Not bad at all but no idea. 6 - Really familiar and very good. Tension is fantastic. I know this horn player but I can't name them at the moment. 7 - Swinging tune. Pianist as leader? Deft player for sure. No guesses. 8 - Heartfelt playing and an enjoyable track. No guesses. 9 - Rypdal, McLaughlin or Scofield? Leaning Ryp. I dig it regardless. Definitely not Sco... 10 - Legit. Very nice. I would guess Cuban? 11 - A bit somnambulant. Not sure who this would be. All in all an enjoyable mix. Thanks for putting it together!
  13. A buddy of mine familiar with HK recs the Wai Fung shop.
  14. I'll check it out. The Shipp/Perelman Magical Incantation album wasn't for me but the strings may add something.
  15. Like Moldea's Dark Victory, the beginning of this book includes some interesting connections and happenings in the early jazz scene. This one touches on the earlier part of the post war era too. So far, six chapters in and it's extremely good.
  16. All over the place but specific examples escape me right now. Definitely a thing though.
  17. I'm very familiar with it due to extensive radio/store music play in these parts as I've never been a Shania fan. I still had no idea it had been covered so much and by a pretty diverse group of artists: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/You're_Still_the_One
  18. Tour de force this movie
  19. Have to say the SQ on Sco's Impulse albums are always top notch. This is the only tune from No Country that I've heard and again I'm impressed with that aspect, esp Goldings' Hammond. I have the Past Present album and it's the same way.
  20. Are we at the point where Art's posthumous releases now outnumber his ante-mortem albums? Seems like in the wake of all of these his catalog should be reassessed....maybe?
